I’m a viet diaspora and seeing your oc’s have me over the moon!! I adore them and your art style! I also wanted to ask what the general plot synopsis of ve sầu song ca is? (I’m a bit obsessed with chích choè and quỳnh liên-something about sapphic narrative foils just Get to me- and would very much like to know what their roles in the story is)
oh ty for the question!! vssc is kind of...hand-waivey plotwise. sorry its quite long! lol premiseis basically a couple generations ago, the royal family of a declining kingdom evokes a forbidden ritual to summon a primordial god and a few hundred years later, its time to pay the price. the kingdom is once again in decline, and through a series of unfortunate events, a political marriage is dissolved, the royal couple passes away leaving the kingdom to their young children, and the royal siblings, who had once been inseparable, became fractured. chaos reigns for sometime. 5 years down the line, through the iron-fisted rule of the new queen, the previous crown princess, the land is relatively peaceful. but suddenly, rumors began circulating that the ghost of the second princess had started to appear in graveyards across the land. more under cut because it got long oops
chich choe is actually this "ghost princess", and shes not dead. she was originally left as infant at the palace's gates and was raised as a stand-in for the actual second princess, who's chronically ill and weak, to protect the royal family's image. she was the one sent away in the political marriage, and per tradition, when her husband passed away shortly after, she was supposed to be killed but managed to escape. she had grown up playing a role her whole life but genuinely loved her royal siblings and wished to stay by their sides, so when she was sent away, chich choe became increasingly bitter and disillusioned, especially towards the crown princess/now queen. the reason she became the "ghost princess", was honestly, for fun, and to torture her oldest sis :-)
quynh lien on the other hands, is the daughter of a seamstress who would come to the palace to serve the royal family. due to her abusive father and detached mother, ql doesnt put a lot of stock into the idea of "family." she's seen cc from afar as a child and has always thought she was very delulu to play so much into the fantasy of belonging. ql is pragmatic and believes in never dreaming of the impossible, never working yourself up over things that can't be changed, because you'll just tire yourself out. they meet again as an adult when cc is playing in a graveyard and ql is under an assignment from her mysterious employer. cc's dramatic flare is at first just very amusing to her, but turns infuriating, and then infuriating (because i care for you) when cc would inadvertently gets hurt over emotional matters. they become accidental partners in investigating the weird paranormal events that begin to happen across the land.
