god every fucking time on a movie or a TV show the teen or adult child is saying a bunch of hurtful shit to their mother and you can just tell from the way the scene is building that the mother is going to hit them in the face. and then she does. and then instead of beating the mother to death with a kitchen chair or (more reasonably if not quite as satisfyingly) being like "oh wow ok you just forfeited literally all my love and respect for the rest of your life," and leaving, the child usually fucking apologizes. and even if they don't it's never ever treated as the moral event horizon for the mother that hitting your child in the face for saying words to you actually is

#on this occasion i am watching marnie which is an old movie. but it still happens today!!! #like in that graffiti movie #'i came by'. i liked the movie ok but the mother HIT the SON in the FACE #and on 'you'! love's mom! like i get that she's not supposed to be a *good* mom but STILL nobody has murdered her almost two seasons later #when will someone murder the slapping movie mom. when will i have catharsis #cw abuse mention #psir
