i think a kind of sad thing concerning trigun is that the narrative never gets time to wrap up vash's character arc, so vash never really gets the point of forgiving himself, and i mean concerning any guilt of his in the series, with the fall, july, other similar events, wolfwood, legato/ the story just kind of skips to the end where he's inexplicably happy bc hes doing his peace sign on the cover despite everything that just happened. at most, the story has meryl come to vash who had fainted from the trauma of killing legato, but she just says they'll support him (but he's passed out, so he cant hear that or anything), and they kinda send him back out after he has a little nightmare/dream. his little in-limbo scene isnt really good enough to address his issues, in fact, it's not even about that, he's passed out, but hears Meryl say humans are holding him back, and he gets up, ready to fight for them again, completely skipping past anything that has to do with what just happened with legato.

#personal #wolfwood comes closer. he fufills it but he does die #in both versions he dies so maybe nightow REALLY wanted him dead for drama's sake #but i feel hes kind of essential to vash's happiness? not even in a shippy way but i feel in trigun theres a lot of examples of vash not #getting close to people bc they end up dead from being around him. and ww probably had gotten the closest but is still added to the pile #ik its kind of an annoying thing when fans read smth and want their dead fave to not be esp when it was for a reason #but i feel like wolfwood surviving wouldnt cheapen the story imo..? #he dies better in the manga (though its still a little goofy) but in the anime it felt dumb/bad #i was gonna say more abt ww lmao but i remembered i had a point. him/+livio/meryl/milly i feel are needed for vash #...then by extension vash's development would open the slightest opportunity for knives #also i forgot. i said i'd stop talking abt ww but in his death was accepting vash's ideals. after him rescuing vash him straying from his #previous 'well what can you do. thats life.' lying to himself attitude and full on putting effort was peak development for him #which leads to vash i think acknowledging too (not being alone/seeing he successfully influenced someone else/etc) #while ww dying i feel like adds to the 'ppl around me die' and his ideals being flawed thing. which would probably make him spiral more
