the most annoying thing about dog ownership now is that “adopt, don’t shop!” has become de rigeur over the years and then people are wondering why healthy dogs are being put down because they told first time dog owners whose experience with dogs is doug the pug on insta living in 1BR nyc apartments to go adopt a 50lb dog with the bite power of a bear trap and the mental health of hannibal lecter. not that I like the thought of the average dog owner taking a beautiful lil blank slate puppy and turning it into the majority of the untrained psychos satchel and I unfortunately run into just minding our own damn business, but I don’t know how anyone is surprised that the combination of covid dogs and “if you do anything else but adopt you’re a monster” has turned into “mr snuggles is despondently traumatized and so I’m gonna put him down after only 4 months failed training, oops :(“

#can we please turn adopt don’t shop into #adopt if you are capable of it but also know your limits #like maybe if you’re a beginner try to adopt younger! less years of potential fucking up has happened #or you know….. if you don’t have the knowledge you need to invest money in either knowledge or a well bred dog #yes… I am reading wack ass covid dog owner articles again…..
