Celebrating Anne Brontë’s writing, holding up her work as equal to her sisters’, pointing out that in many ways her books are the most radical and feminist of the three:
Yes please!
Insisting that Anne was the only sensible or feminist Brontë and portraying Charlotte and Emily as a pair of internalized misogynists who romanticized abuse and toxic masculinity:
No, thank you.

Jane Austen is for day reading, the Brontes are for storm and/or night reading, I don't make the rules.

Anne Bronte is such a boss, though.
So all the Bronte sisters (not doing the fancy dots because I’m lazy & exhausted) were writers, as well know, and their brother was for a bit.
They were such an ill family, and it really sucks that they all died, but there was more to them than writing thematically perfect novels, having a messed-up, slowly dying family, and being women authors who Beat the Dude System or whatever y’all want to say about them.
One of my favorite theories that I’ve ever read, and that I 100% believe is true, is that each of the Bronte sisters in one of their signature novels was dealing with a different way they were processing their complicated relationship with their older brother, Branwell.
Charlotte’s answer to dealing with her very own wildman is shown through Jane Eyre. She believes she can tame Branwell as Jane tames Rochester.
Emily’s answer to dealing with her very own widlman is shown through Wuthering Heights. She believes she can out-wild Branwell as her heroine, losing her sanity in the process, perhaps, but remaining equal to him.
And then there’s Anne. Our dear Anne.
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall gets wayyyyy too little attention, y’all, but it is great. In it, a woman leaves behind her abusive husband and finds a country man who treats her right.
Basically, Anne has it together. She so did. And I will respect this boss of a woman forever, under-appreciated as she is, for having the only truly healthy response to the life she was tossed into.

My little morning spread! Still visiting home so am trying to take full advantage of the amount of food my mother has in her house hehe.
Still writing papers, feeling like that is all I do now! I am getting kicked in the butt by my epistemology paper on phenomenal concepts…and I cannot wait to be done and over with it :|
