Benefits of Online Testing
Tumblr media
Why online exam is better than written exam? The traditional assessment model is generally manual and a time-consuming process that suffers from multiple challenges like student mal practices, impersonations and paper leaks. An online exam not only tremendously reduces the time and effort put into conducting an examination but also provides security of data, delays in result declaration, logistical ease, and is definitely environment-friendly with limited use of paper.
If we pause and think what could be driving this sudden surge and interest in a virtual classroom or course module, we might discover many big shifts that are actually re-defining the way people learn, when they learn and why they learn.
Benefits for institutes: 1. Hassle free test - It includes question preparation, test management, answer checking. detailed result & analysis, logistical ease within minimum time & efforts. 2. Highly secured - Online Testing prevents from various question paper leaks, exam conduction in secured environment. 3. Brand Value - It add a brand recognition to the institution, which helps students / parent to select the best services providing institution.  Benefits to the students: 1. Easy to "Reset" the answer - Every testing system allows its user to change the answer / response of the attempted questions, paper based test doesn’t. 2. Detailed Analytics - Online Testing given detailed analytics of the students for any attempted test, which is very useful to track the performance of the student. 3. Artificial Intelligence - After analytics, the AI is the very important aspects of online testing, which also gives suggestions to student for preparation and practice. 4. Various Learning Engagement - Online system or LMS is not limited to few aspects. It gives wide range to its user to be engaged and always look for something new related with his / her studies / learning. 5.Environment Friendly- Last but not the least, its now a days important for every person in this world to save the environment.

7 E-learning trends for educational institutions in 2017
Tumblr media
In today’s daily life, Computers and Internet has became very important part of our life. If you want to chat / share messages / videos, shopping or anything which you want to do, everywhere you will find personal computers, smartphones and internet. This also implies on education in various ways, i.e. video / game based learning, testing and assessment solutions, study materials etc.
As per recent reports, there are 7 e-learning trends, which influences the market and all the related stakeholders:
Gamification
Surprised? You shouldn’t be. True, gamification is not new to online education, but the novelty factor fades away compared to the tried and tested one. Students like a gamified learning environment, no matter their age. They like the possibility of making mistakes and learn from them, getting rewarded for every right answer, the recognition for their results, and most of all, having fun while learning. Teachers can gamify lessons in various ways, knowing that even the smallest changes can have  big positive results.  The trend of gamification will probably stand the test of time in 2017 as well, with even more educators including it in their online instruction.
Personalised learning
The best learning experience will always be one that is perfectly customized based on each learner’s needs. When instruction fits them like a glove on both level of knowledge and style of learning, students are generally more receptive of what they have to learn, are more engaged, and will better retain the information. Since classrooms don’t have one student each, and teachers have to cater to the learning needs of tens of students at the same time, achieving personalized learning is not an easy task. But we’re getting there, one step at a time. In 2017, more LMS vendors will release features like goals engines and rules engines, which allow instructors to create more personalized learning paths for their students.
Bite-sized learning
I always wondered as a kid growing up why adults expected me and my classmates to sit still and pay attention to what the teacher said for an entire hour. I was up to something, even though I didn’t realize it. Besides the fact that the human attention span is smaller than that of a goldfish, intense focus happens for a period of up to 20 minutes – for adults! Students, no matter their age, need smaller, bite-sized learning materials. Delivering instruction into more manageable chunks increases students’ chances of being able to really pay attention to what they have to learn. 2017 will therefore see growing numbers of bite-sized learning modules.
Video-based learning
This is tightly connected with the flipped classroom technique. The time spent in the classroom is all about collaboration and interactivity, when students can clarify any aspects of the lesson that they didn’t understand, by discussing it with their peer and teachers. The time spent at home is all about preparing for the next classroom discussions, and it almost always involves a video of the teacher presenting and explaining the new lesson. Besides the flipped classroom, YouTube offers an immense variety of educational videos, that are hardly ever longer than 20 minutes. YouTube doesn’t show any sign of regression, and teachers who flip their classroom rarely want to go back to a more traditional technique. So we can assume that video-based learning will only grow in 2017.
Adaptive learning
This is a more in-depth approach to personalized learning, and many educators are still testing the waters surrounding it.  Adaptive learning offers the student a personalized learning path to follow until he/she reaches mastery, AND uses big data and analytics to continuously update that learning path. It does so by adapting both the learning content and the instruction in real time. Even though it will take a while for adaptive learning to become mainstream in online education, I’m sure there will be plenty of discussions about this topic in 2017. And discussions will eventually lead to more progress.
Peer to peer assessment
You know how the saying goes: humans are social animals. Sometimes we fully learn something only when we can explain it to someone else. When someone shares a piece of knowledge in a group, everyone can learn it. When enough information has been shared within the group, all members should know almost the same things. If that is right, they can assess each other’s and help each other reach the same level of knowledge and competences. Peer to peer assessment adds an extra layer of responsibility for students. They firstly need to assess their own level of competence, and then compare and contrast it with that of others. They might want to learn more from their peers, or help other get to their own level. More teachers will consider involving students in peer to peer assessment, so in 2017 more LMS vendors will add this feature to their products.
Official degrees for online courses
Universities have been testing online education for quite a while now, but almost everything they did was about delivering online learning content. The certificates of completion for online courses still don’t weigh the same as the official degrees for courses attended in brick-and mortar educational institutions. But if learning is the same, why shouldn’t they? Of course, universities offering online courses — and online degrees — will need to make sure that learning is the same for all students, no matter the type of courses they follow. Once this is set, online degrees will have the same importance for everyone. In 2017, maybe only a handful of universities will manage this, but they will be pioneers in this official degrees for online courses trend.

Mantra to crack NEET
Tumblr media
According to coaching experts taking as many as grand test would help students to crack the NEET easily in three hours of examination time.
By Yuvraj Akula   |   Published: 17th Apr 2017   12:10 am Updated: 16th Apr 2017   4:43 pm NEETOpen Hyderabad: For first time admissions into all the medical courses would be done through the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Last year, admission convener quota seats of MBBS and BDS courses and Ayush courses were done through the Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET).
Close to one lakh candidates from Telangana state are likely to appear for the entrance test which is scheduled on May 7. About 11,35,104 candidates had registered for entrance across the country which is 41.42 per cent more than the last year’s number. The examination will have about 180 questions in Biology, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry each carrying four marks and one negative for each wrong answer.
According to coaching experts taking as many as grand test would help students to crack the NEET easily in three hours of examination time.
The NEET will have random questions from botany and zoology unlike EAMCET where botany and zoology had separate sections.
“Questions from 1 to 90 will have mixed questions from botany and zoology and students need to keep this in mind before attempting. There are chances that more questions can be asked for botany and less in zoology, vice-versa,” said D Sankara Rao, Dean, Sri Chaitanya Junior College, Kukatpally.
The coaching experts urged students to concentrate more on the National Council of Educational Research and Training books as majority questions would be asked from them. For effective time management, the coaching experts advised students to begin examination with biology and zoology, later on chemistry and physics.
“Physics will be tough for students of BiPC and consumes more time for answering. To score well in the examination, this section needs to be answered at the end. If one can score close to 300 in the biology, the chances of getting overall good score will be more,” said M Shashidar Kumar, a coaching expert.

Revision key to score high in NEET UG, say experts
DEHRADUN: With merely 20 days left for the CBSE's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG-2017) — a single-window entrance exam for MBBS and BDS at both national and state levels — which has the highest number of registered aspirants till date this year (more than 11 lakh), the selection process may become tougher for students.
Ahead of exam, to be held on May 7, young students who have recently appeared in the Class 12 board examination are worried considering the selection process may become tougher and the cut-off may go high due to increasing number of applicants, but experts differ. "Even as the number of candidates has increased, the number of seats across colleges too has increased this year; thus, instead of worrying, students must focus on revision," said experts. Osheen Chamoli an aspirant, said, "I am done with my preparations for the medical entrance after a year of hard work. This will be my second NEET attempt, and I am really concerned about the outcome as a huge number of students are appearing this year. I hope the cut-off does not get too high."
Achievers Classes CEO Manu Pant said, "For the next three weeks, the students should just revise their Class XI and XII syllabi and focus on their strong subjects so that they can score more and feel comfortable. They should not spend time worrying over their weak areas. They must go through NCERT books for the NEET exam."
V R Classes managing director Vaibhav Rai said, "Students should not worry as they need to give their best shot to the last leg of preparation. It is true that more students are appearing in NEET this year, but seats too have increased. So, they must not worry about high cut-off as long as their preparation is up to the mark. They should try to get at least 70% marks to qualify for an MBBS seat."
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct NEET UG-2017 on May 7 across 103 cities in India. In Uttarakhand, it will be held in two cities — Dehradun and Haldwani.
According to an estimate, as many as 20,000 aspirants are likely to take to the entrance test. As many as 8,02,594 candidates were registered for NEET in 2016, which went up to 11,35,104 in 2017, an increase of 41.42%.

JEE Main 2016 Cut-Offs
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on 27 April, 2016 announced the cut-offs for JEE Main 2016. JEE cutoff score determines an whether the candidate is eligible for the next exam i.e. JEE Advanced. Only those students that score above the JEE Main 2016 cutoff are eligible to appear for this examination. JEE Advanced is conducted by IIT and securing a rank in that ensures admission into the various IITs across the country.
The JEE Main 2016 cutoff
Tumblr media
For the last three years, we can see a trend in the cutoff marks for JEE Main gradually reducing. Experts in the field have diagnosed the situation and have attributed the decrease in cutoff to one major factor – increased pool of candidates for JEE Advanced. In 2015, the total number of candidates that qualified to compete for JEE Advanced was 1.5 lakh. However, this year the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided to allow approximately 2 lakh students to appear for JEE Advanced 2016. Supreme Court recalls NEET(National Eligibility Entrance Test) again as entrance test for medical colleges
Tumblr media
NEET is a common entrance test for admission to MBBS, BDS and post-graduate courses. Admitting to have acted too hastily, the Supreme Court on Monday recalled its 2013 judgment declaring the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) unconstitutional.
What does that mean?
It effectively takes away the right of medical colleges and institutions, including those run by religious and linguistic minorities, to make admissions on the basis of their own rules and procedures.
Why did Supreme Court Recall Order?
To understand the nature of the controversy we have to start from 2013.In 2013 Medical Council of India (MCI) had conducted an entrance test called NEET for admission to various medical and dental colleges.
However, in 2013, a group of institutions, including the Christian Medical College in Vellore, moved the Supreme Court, contended that having a common entrance test violated the rights of minority institutions “to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice, as guaranteed under Article 30 of the Constitution”. The hearing in the case, resulted in the Supreme Court quashing a notification by the MCI for the upcoming NEET.
The three-member bench that delivered the judgement on 18 July, 2013 consisted of the then Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice Vikramajit Sen (both now retired) and Justice Anil Dave. The majority judgment had been in favour of the Christian Medical College, but Justice Dave had differed from the majority view.
The three-member bench that delivered the judgement on 18 July, 2013 consisted of the then Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice Vikramajit Sen (both now retired) and Justice Anil Dave. The majority judgment had been in favour of the CMC, but Justice Dave had differed from the majority view.
On the other hand, Justice Dave in his dissenting minority judgment had held "it cannot be said that introduction of the NEET would either violate any of the fundamental or legal rights of the petitioners or even adversely affect the medical profession".
"In my opinion, introduction of the NEET would ensure more transparency and less hardship to the students eager to join the medical profession," he said, wondering how the autonomy of the said institutions would be adversely affected because of the NEET.
What is happening?
Justice Dave was the seniormost member of the Constitution bench which recalled the Supreme Court's earlier order on 11 April, 2016. Other members of the bench are Justice AK Sikri, Justice RK Agrawal, Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and Justice R Banumathi. The bench made its decision on the basis of a petition filed by the MCI and AP Private Medical and Dental Colleges.
According to the reports published by Indian Express the bench stated that it has agreed to review the 2013 order because at the time, the two judges who were against the NEET did not consider “some binding precedents” and that the 2013 bench did not discuss the issue before pronouncing the judgement. This was the same point that Justice Dave had made in 2013 while expressing his dissent.
 What happens Finally?
There is no final verdict yet. While the SC quashed the 2013 order, agreed it needs to be reviewed and stated clearly that the NEET can be held this academic year, it has directed that the matters on this issue should be heard afresh. Meanwhile, the MCI vice-chairman Dr C V Bhirmanandham told The Times Of India that the council will not be able to conduct the NEET this year. There just isn’t enough time for students to prepare for the test and the council still has to discuss the developments with states that are against the NEET, he said.

No board marks required from 2016:IIT-NIT admissions might undergo a major change
Tumblr media
The admission procedure to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) from next year onwards could undergo a major change . A panel appointed by the government is likely to recommend scrapping of the weightage given to marks obtained in board examinations.
As per the existing policy, 40 percent weightage is given to board marks and 60% to the JEE-Main score for admission to a NIT.
"We would be recommending scrapping of weightages given to board marks," director of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and a member of the panel, Devang Khakhar, has said, in a PTI report. A final decision on the issue could come early next month when the human resource development minister Smriti Irani chairs a meeting of the NIT council, which would take a call on the committee's recommendations.
As per the existing policy, 40 percent weightage is given to board marks and 60% to the JEE-Main score for admission to a NIT.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had failed to publish the JEE-Main ranking list on time for the counselling and blamed it on the delay by the state boards in submitting the Class 12 marks. The delay had an ill-effect that led to the postponement of admissions to the IITs, causing anxiety among students and parents.
While recommending scrapping of the weightage system, the panel is likely to suggest securing 60 percent marks or 70 percentile in Class 12, whichever is lower, as the criteria for eligibility of a candidate to appear for the examination conducted for admissions to the premier technical institutes.

The Best IIT And IIM Are... Government Releases Rankings
Tumblr media
IIT Madras has been picked India's best engineering college - followed by IIT Mumbai and IIT Kharagpur - by Smriti Irani's Human Resource Development Ministry. The best management institute is IIM Bangalore with IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta as first and second runner up respectively.
The rankings - which cover government and private institutions - have been released ahead of the next academic year which starts in the summer for college students. Jawaharlal Nehru University or Delhi's JNU - where three students were recently and provocatively arrested on charges of sedition - has been rated the country's third-best university.
The National Rankings were commissioned in September, as the first domestic list of its kind. 3,500 institutes have been covered. Most of India's colleges do not appear on international surveys of the best institutions because of gaps in collecting and presenting data. The report released today says, "Many institutions failed to put their best foot forward, when it came to supplying quality data. The point being emphasised here is 'quality'. Some of the institutions were definitely casual in supplying the data sought." Significantly, perception among students, alumni, parents, employees and the public was one of the key parameters on which these institutes were ranked by a committee of experts. Teaching and learning resources and research capabilities and facilities were other key criteria.
