Bad Situation Starters (X)

It was a near daily ritual for Gundham to take a walk through the woods surrounding the school, it being one of the few places where he could just be. While part of the walks was to assess local wildlife and locate any problems that might need addressing, such problems were thankfully far and few between. The woods were as much a sanctuary to him as his actual animal shed sanctuary on campus, and while there was a time or two he had stubbled upon other students wandering about the thicket for one reason or another, his treks were mostly made in solitude.

To invite Sonia along, to show her all his favorite hiding spots, it...was something he had never done before.

Of course, as always when in deep stretches of nature, there was danger to be found. Poisonous plants, hidden hunter's traps, uneven ground to trip you, sudden dropoffs to send you tumbling down a hill --Gundham couldn't even count the amount of hills he'd accidentally tumbled down, not that he'd say as much outloud-- and, of course wildlife. Gundham wasn't a fool, he knew at their very core, a beast was beast. Some could be swayed, if only for a moment (often times when someone was trying to help them, something he always found interesting, that they simply seemed to know that) and others were far too powerful for even him to sway. When all else failed, he knew how to deter the animal most effectively, either through fright, incapacitaion, or through means of escape.

Luckily, this was not one of those times.

While the heavy cracking of underbrush had him halting wirh a hand raised for Sonia to do the same, his eyes trained on a large mass of brown weaving between the trees until drawing closer, the encounter ultimetly ended with pure excitment once he realized it was-

"Grizner!" Like a child seeing their friend after a long length of time apart, he lit up like a beacon as the bear gave a roar in greeting. "I had been hoping to cross your path once again, thougth I grew despondent as the days ticked onwards. Where have you-" Another crunch from behind the large bear drew his attention, it quickly relighting that excited ferver as a fluffy little cub toddled into view. "You've aquired spawn! That does explain your absence, indeed!" Scooping the cub up, he holds it like one might a toddler as he turned to Sonia with a grin that could melt the ice he so boasts dwells within his veins. "Sonia!" Not She-Cat, The Dark Lady, Queen of Darkness or anything of the sort, just plain old Sonia with that beaming grin. "Is this not the most wonderful turn of events!?"

It hadn't even been a question for Kazuichi on if he would come to the princess' aid despite knowing very well she could take care of herself. It had been instinct to put himself between her and the creep trying to weasel his way towards her, it reminding him far too much of himself to let it go unchallenged. A few words were exchanged, and then a few punches, one to Kazuichi's jaw, and one to the other boy's in kind. Most people thought Kaz as nothing but a weak, sniveling loser, and while most of that was true, he was a sniveling loser who's talent involved him picking up 100 lbs engines with his bare hands whenever his chain lift would break (which was often, seeing as the piece of shit was salvaged from a scrapyard).

He didn't even really realize what had happened until it was over, his mind swimming with vertigo and a slowly forming headache behind his eyes. Only the pain in his hand confimed that he had infact landed a blow on his opponent, something that was quickly overshadowed by a deeply throbbing pulse where sharp teeth had cut into his lip where he had been struck.

Sonia helping him was perhaps the most baffling part of the whole ordeal, Kazuichi not knowing which of his thoughts he wished to say first, until his mouth had chosen for him. "I know you could have done that yourself. I just..." There were too many ways to finish that sentence. "P-Probably not a good look for you to kick some guy's teeth in, huh?"

A thank you was muttered into Kaz's shoulder, Gundham fully submitting to being moved about on his unsteady legs until he finally managed to sit on the bed. "I did not drink simply to seek your company, though the liquid courage isn't unwelcome." He wasn't supposed to say that. "I had been out with Sonia, she insisted on going to a dive bar, you know how she can be." Said so casually as he fought off his boots, as if this wasn't a side of his that very few knew of, and that even fewer were able to experience.

"We-" A hiccup, it bringing up a cute little squeak that sounded very much like one of his hamsters as his boots were tossed to the side. "We had been talking of you, and it made me miss you, so I came here after walking Sonia back to her room." Once again said so casually, Gundham letting out a tired huff as he flopped back on the bed with an arm over his eyes, silent now of all times.

Were they… taking turns showing up drunk in front of other’s room? The mechanic honestly remembered fuck all from the time he was drunk, but judging from the other’s reaction when he woke up, he’d concluded he probably hadn’t done or said anything weird. Hopefully. Either way, now was not the time to think about that. He had a drunklord leaning against his shoulder, which totally didn’t make his heart skip a beat. What the other said totally didn’t make his heart burst either. Not one bit. He totally wasn’t feeling anything right now.

“Y-yeah. Yeah, you… you can. Sleep here, I mean.” Awkwardly maneuvering around to close the door, he tried to help the other reach his bed, kicking stuff out of the way so the guy wouldn’t step on them. “You could’ve just, came here to find me. You don’t need to drink to come over, dude…” he muttered, mostly to himself, since he wasn’t sure how coherent the other could be at the moment.

The trip back to campus had been a haze of dissociation and pain, Kazuichi not registering the bus ride, the walk to the school, nor having made his way to Hajime's dorm. Hood of his sweatshirt pulled up to hide his face, there was a bruise steadily forming under his left eye, the contact having been knocked out to leave him lopsided in both sight and color. He still wasn't fully there, arms wrapped tightly around himself as tears slowly dried on his cheeks, only to slowly come back the more his friend had talked to him, it being the first sign that Kaz could in fact hear him.

Despite that, the reassurance had been the first thing Kaz had really heard, his eyes snapping to meet Hajime's as he asked in a voice that was so very small. "Do you promise?"

Kazuichi had as much time for safety as he had pleasantries, the overworked and overtired mechanic not even looking at the breeder as they passed in the hall. Maybe it was the look on Kaz's face that had Gundham sticking around, it being one that spoke of a long day that had hardly even begun, or perhaps it was the fact that Kaz had been dragging a rolling chair behind him to stand on in order to change a light.

With his limbs as heavy as they felt, it really was impressive how he managed to stay steady on the chair as he put a foot on the seat, Kaz having one hand braced agains the wall, the other holding the new lightbulb, and a screwdriver held between his teeth. He could only roll his eyes at Gundham's...concern? Scolding? He didn't know, and at that moment he didn't care.

"What? You tellin' me how to do my shit?" Unessecarily hostile, but...not in his usual way. "Do you know how much shit this fucking school has me doing today? I don't have time to get a better chair, it'll be fine. Not the first time I've done this." Spoken after taking the screwdriver out of his mouth, the cover to the light was popped open, the tempered glass swingig open on its hinge, and very nearly hitting Kaz in the face. "If you're that concered, hold the damn chair. Unless you want me to sit on your shoulders insetad." He would like that far better than the chair.
