This sounds like such a cool idea!! Do you mostly use essential oils or fragrance oils? Or maybe you use both?
I use both actually. I do lean more toward fragrance oils simply because they offer a wider range of possibilities and also because I am a poor student at the moment. Which is why I unfortunately had to put the challenge on hold. I didn’t have enough oils or anywhere near enough bottles to keep up with my imagination unfortunately.

Everything arrived in perfect shape and was very well packed, I'm hoping all my future orders work out this well. And now with those in hand, I can finally start working on those fragrances.

Late Start...
So, it's January 17th and I still haven't mixed one fragrance... Uh oh.
Part of the reason why was due to the fact that in the beginning of January I was actually visiting family back in Canada and my husband and I got stranded. When we finally made it home, I got intense frostbites on my ears and spent days on pain-killers while waiting for them to thaw - that's one word I never expected to use concerning a body part before!
The other part of the reason for my late start is actually that I was missing some key elements to be able to start mixing my fragrances, mainly amber glass bottles. But, I am pleased to report that, according to FedEx, they are now out for delivery and as soon as they get here, I'll be able to get mixing.
My goal for this weekend is to get caught up on where I am supposed to be fragrance wise to get back on track for this challenge. Wish me luck!

Reblogging this question I received on my personal blog since it seems very relevant to this one as well.
which characters have you made fragrances for and how do you decide on what they're going to smell like based on characters?
Wow, that’s a really cool question!
I’ve created quite a few fragrances based off characters years ago for a friend’s company; we focused on two “themed” collection one was Harry Potter-centric and the other was based of X-men characters. I also recently created a blend for a soap based of Clara Oswald of Doctor Who.
As for how I decide how they’ll smell, there’s a few different ways to go about it;
Sometimes, I just think of the character and I get a general impression of what they might smell like, for example, for the Severus Snape fragrance that I did, I knew I needed something that smell dark and brooding but also, sorta herbal and wet because of the potions classroom and such, so one of the main fragrances we had for it was brewed black tea.
Other times, I’ll take things that are associated with the character in consideration; for Clara, I used a bit of rose oil because of Oswin’s rose and The Rose & Crown.
And it can be just by personality and such, like I wouldn’t use scents like Lilies for the majority of strong warrior type characters but maybe I’d use those for someone like Brienne of Tarth whose got this purity and a sort of innocence to her.
It’s a special process every time I decide to work off a character and not just off fragrances I feel will pair well together because I’m usually making those for characters I love and cherish and I want to do them justice.

On you mark. Get ready.
2014 will be here in 7 and half hour and with it's arrival, my challenge will begin.
The goal: To mix 183 fragrances over the next 365 days. So, the equivalent of one every other day.
The participant: Myself
The why: I truly hope to, one day, become a professional nose and to be able to sell my fragrances. So, I figured, this would be a great way to get some practice in.
The blog: Here I will report on the fragrances I've created, my success and failures, my inspirations and anything else I might deem relevant.
Now that everything has been explained, I hope you'll join me in my adventure. Lets get mixing!
