Unused dream sequence from Avatar the Last Airbender episode 219, “The Guru”
In this bit, Aang flashbacks to a happier time when he and Monk Gyatso would do fly-pie shootings on the female airbenders. Then Gyatso turns into a skull.
Note that back in the day, storyboards were drawn on lots of paper and sticky notes. I would separate the layers (backgrounds from characters) so it was easier for the animatic editor to composite.
My first notes for this request were "I wanna draw a dynamic scene in a cityscape" but concluded very quickly that I'm not great at both of those things. I *am* pretty good at drawing moping people I'd say hehe
[ID: two images of an Indian ink and watercolour drawing of the cabbage merchant from Avatar: the Last Airbender. The second image is a close up of the first. It shows a the cabbage merchant from the top of a roof down. Behind him lies his cart, toppled over, cabbages scattered all over the street. He cradles a bunch of cabbages in his arms, and looks up at the roof in the foreground with a sad expression, because a few of his cabbages ended up in the gutter, where he can't reach them. /End ID]
Eyes so old on one so young
Warm even through tears
You were born to be afraid
A whale crying amongst wolves
Heard but never listened to
I miss you.
You are my best friend.
Thank you for loving me, too.
Turn my page in your story,
so I might read who you will become,
and find myself scribbled in the margins
of the beaten book of your sacred life
…even if I’m in just the first draft.
Hold tight to the marks of your courage,
but remember that time turns its back on no one.
And when courage becomes incredibly lonely,
remember why it hurts to care.
I love you.
You are my entire world.
Thank you for missing me, too.
It is the strength of your heart that makes you who you are,
and your love is an ocean that can turn cowards into kings.
