people who grew up poor and go on to place these huge academic and professional expectations on their children with no idea of how to achieve them beyond "browbeat the kid until results occur" are so funny because they will eventually meet these actual old money families with their thoroughbred kids and wheel out their anxious 6th grader as if the opposing family in question won't regard the thing as little more than a well trained mutt. because no amount of congeniality can obscure the absence of calm that is only afforded to those with wealth. the lack of ease, lack of tuned refinement, lack of nutrition, lack of entitlement stemming from being told that you have a special human soul that the world should bend to nurture riddles the poor child like a disease. the poor parent senses the disparity between the children, but ignores the child's disposition existing as a reflection of the parent's upbringing and pivots to believing that the gap can be overcome with more arbitrary achievement, more studying and more working. the poor child will proceed to be wound tightly while the rich child observes them on the other side of the cat's cradle.
