sorry to like, keep going on about this but as a (former?) media professional: seeing so many comments on @wearewatcher's video saying "I would fire people so I didn't have to charge for content" and accusing WATCHER of being capitalist about it is actually insane.
you used to have to pay for content. you had to pay like £16 to watch one whole movie on DVD. this is because it cost money to make and people were supposed to be paid for it. remember the writers' strike because streaming now only benefits executives with no equanimous income distribution model for the people who create the stuff you love?
you are meant to root for the independent creators. you are not meant to want all content to be beholden to an algorithmic nightmare that ransoms what creators can make or monetise for its own arbitrary censorship. you are not meant to root for a platform that works to silence and limit people under oppressive regimes. you are not meant to demand that you get content only on something that platforms and promotes right wing prejudice.
employing people is good!!!!!!! you are meant to want people to be fairly paid for their work even and especially when that work goes into creating things you love and get enrichment from
yes you are also meant to share your subscription with your friends. OUR login details. THAT'S fucking socialism.

The response to the Watcher announcement has absolutely baffled me
People are acting like they are trying this funding model in order to pay of 3rd houses and maseratis rather than keep their business afloat. I get streaming service fatigue but things are going a little far.
Like bro sorry if you like the content and want it to exist, then you agree that people should work to do that. I saw people complaining about them doing this when they have a patreon already. Did you miss the fact there are 25 employees? How do you think they're eating? If you were to do the math, assuming that every patron was buying at the highest tier, you would still not be making a "comfortable" wage in the city of los angeles, let alone covering operating costs.
Also not to sound like a boomer but $60 annually? That's the price of 9 of my special little bubble tea treats? That is 4 hours of my labour at my part-time student job (I just googled minimum wage in the USA and so I respectfully rescind this point as coming from a place of ignorant privilege as it is literally like 1/2 of the min wage here)? Times are hard and I am not going to diss anyone for sticking to a budget but y'all are acting like they are selling hand-made, artisan, single use paper towels for $100 a pop. Its disappointing not to be able to afford little treats. I empathize with that, but to see people denigrating the value of the products they were just enjoying 1 week ago because there is now a price tag on it that they think is "too high" is WILD to me.

Using dissociate instead of zoning out. Describing a hobby as a hyperfixation. Saying nonverbal when you want a bit of quiet. Saying intrusive thoughts because that must mean an urge like to buy coffee or hair dye. Do you know feeling off sometimes is a sign of autism? Lying is gaslighting. Everyone I dislike is a narcissist.

Think about Harrow's AU Bubbles
Thinking about Harrow's AU bubbles, not as fanfic references, but as expressions of her subconscious fears and desires, is so fascinating.
The Harrow Nova one is pretty obvious. Harrow's parents were obsessed with her being a necromancer, were willing to kill for it. It's only natural she'd wonder, "What if I hadn't been?"
And the answer Harrow gives herself is: Your parents and everyone would reject you (except, wildly, for Crux). Also they'd be alive cuz you'd never opened the tomb, and you'd be an unpopular orphan they'd abuse (Just Like Gideon). And you'd still be just as devoted to serving the Ninth with a blade. There's a lot there. But the other really telling bit is her relationship with Gideon. Harrow Nova professes to hate the reverend daughter even as she seeks to (re) create the necro-cav bond with her. But that hatred doesn't seem to be mutual. And the bit about the daughter intervening when Harrow was whipped…
That's Harrow's subconscious saying if their roles had been reversed, "Gideon would have treated me better than I treated her. Gideon would have protected me."
The Ball AU also seems like a reasonable extension of Gideon's childhood query: "What if my other parent is the most important guy in the universe?" Answer: Emperor Dad would throw a big party.
But also… it's a bride-finding ball! That's so very telling. It could have been anything, but Harrow invents another scenario where she's fighting, competing to get to Gideon, to be awarded the role of her sworn partner (first cav, now bride), while outwardly claiming not to want it.
Now The BARI Star AU often gets described as a "coffee shop" one, but it's actually set in a cohort cafeteria. And normally I wouldn't split hairs over that, but I think the cohort setting is actually really significant. The Cohort was Gideon's dream, and also Harrow's rival for Gideon's attention. It's what she kept trying to leave Harrow for.
So now Harrow dreams that she's left Drearburh to join the cohort and will meet Gideon there. Not fight or compete for a role where they're bound to each other, but just meet her there. That feels like yielding. Like compromise. It makes me think Harrow's subconscious has matured past trying to keep Gideon with her always and is instead looking for ways that SHE can be with Gideon. Meet Gideon where she is.
(Also this may be a stretch, but I always find it low-key funny that Harrow imagines Gideon in the cafeteria… I like to think her brain is skimming lists of hypothetical military jobs like... what sees the least action... ah, coffee-adept, she'll be perfectly safe there...)

I know the US government acts like a corporation but it’s not.
Not voting isn’t the same as a boycott. Because you can’t bankrupt a government by not voting. All you get by not voting is less control over what the money is doing.
The money comes from taxes, not voting. Abstaining from voting does nothing to reduce the governments ability to get money and spend it on shit.
So yes, sometimes you vote to reduce harm because not voting WILL NOT REDUCE HARM.
It’s not a boycot. Abstaining doesn’t take power from the government. It just reduces the number of people they feel answerable to.

this happens to me, but the opposite. If you are a healthy weight, your doctor is going to make assumptions about you that could seriously harm you later on. I have had my healthcare concerns brushed off because I am thin and thin is healthy so therefore there is nothing wrong with me and I just need to chill. I could barely eat food due to extreme nausea and I got basically gaslighted into being fine because I was still a “healthy young person” I had to have a discussion with medications about my doctor and, because I am a pharmacy student, I voiced my concern over bone density as a side effect. If you didnt know, being a little overweight is protective against osteoporosis. She brushed me off “you’ll be fine, you seem pretty active. You can just do weight bearing excerise.”
reader, I do not exercise. I know I should, I dont. I told this to her.
TL;DR if you are fat and seeking healthcare, ABSOLUTELY ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF AS ABOVE. However EVERYONE should clarify with their doctor things like activity level and diet. Do you use coffee, alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and if so how often? It is an important part of your health picture that I have NEVER been asked in a healthcare setting. And if you do not clarify, your doctor is going to make assumptions based on your weight and they will be wrong.

This is why fat shaming can have tragic consequences.

If you genuinely, truly, absolutely, cannot bring yourself to vote for the president of the united states, please just show up for elections anyway and vote for your congresspeople and local representatives.
Please.
Just.
If you cannot bring yourself to vote for the president because he's so disgusting of a candidate you morally cannot bring yourself to cross that line, then PLEASE vote for your congresspeople and local representatives who can block, defend, or present new bills, actions, acts, etc.
These are the people who can actually confirm or deny or impede horrendous acts when they happen.
Like. This is the bare minimum. If you cannot vote for the President, please just still vote for someone.
Change doesn't happen if you don't vote for the people willing to enact change.

Rashida Tlaib has set up a petition to send to the White House to recognize and stop the ethnic cleansing and forced displacement happening in Gaza. If you’re a US citizen please sign. I have no illusions that this will change policy, but the public outcry against their actions must continue. We will not be distracted or discouraged from continuing to object to these humans rights violations.

After raising the price of COVID-19 vaccines more than four-fold this year, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told investors Monday that the company will also likely hike the price of its lifesaving COVID-19 antiviral treatment, Paxlovid, raising further concern about access and healthcare costs.
