Evaluation
Overall I think my editorial spread turned out quite successful. I like the clothes of the shoot as well as the lighting and aesthetic which matches 10 Magazine. I think the idea of the editorial is interesting and it matches both art work and my chosen S/S20 collection well. However I do think the shoot could have been even more successful if I was able to leave the house. In that case I would have had a wider option for clothes and I would have been able to scout locations and models. Also I would have been have to collaborate with people such as makeup artists. Nevertheless my final result looks effective and demonstrates the thing which I considered.

Putting Pages Together
To put the DPS together I opened illustrated and made an A3 document. Later I placed my images and used the fonts characteristic of 10 magazine to experiment with different lay outs.

Title and Story
The story for my editorial shoot is based around the theme of The Scream-anxieties and fears of people. In particular I focused on the anxieties and fears of women surrounding appearance due to the desire to be loved. The model hides her true looks using sunglasses and uses her clothes to portray false confidence. Inspired by A Streetcar Named Desire quote “A woman’s charm is 50% illusion” I am going to title this edit ‘The Beauty Illusion’ as because of anxieties and fears some play into falsities that are not true themselves.

Fonts
Before making my double page spread I also looked into some of the top fonts which 10 Magazine use. I found similiar fonts and added them onto a photoshop file so that I can see them and later use them.

10 Magazine Page Details
In order to have my spread look accurate to 10 Magazine I decided to look over some spreads to have a refresher of the details they use. The magazine uses a range of fonts the title pages have the name of the edit as well as credits, this page sometimes is on it’s often and at other times it is features along side one of the images. The tile page most often has a page number, where as the editorial images are full size (sometimes with a border) and they give credits to the clothes at the bottom.

Editing Images
As the mixed media veriations did not feel fitting to the 10 Magazine Aesthetic I decided to keep images quite simple. Before making a spread though I pulled them up in photoshop to edit thing such as lighting and saturation. Also I added some noise to the pictures in order to give it that grainy film camera look.

Mixed Media Experiments
I chose my top 6 favourite images and printed them in order to experiment with them. I used acrylic paint to achieve different looks. It made the photos look more creative however whilst I do think this experiment was successful it doesn’t suit the 10 Magazine style, so for my spread I will keep the images simple like my allocated magazine.

Narrowing Down the Images
In order to choose my top photos for the editorial I printed out contact sheets of all the photos, highlighting the images that I know I won’t use. I am basing this off lighting, background, pose and what shows the outfit off best.

My Images
When doing the shoot I managed to get around 400 images. I narrowed it down to a 100 images in order to later print the contact sheets and carefully chose the ones I prefer.

Shoot
For the shoot I made sure that it was a sunny day in order to achieve that 10 Magazine aesthetic. I hung my sheet and secured it using clips as it was slightly windy. I added the lanterns to strengthen my idea and so that the background is not so boring. I shot on camera but also took some pictures on my phone to have different kind of looks. I took pictures of the three looks and we experimented with mixing the pieces around.

Final Shoot Idea
For my editorial shoot I am going to use my younger sister as model in our garden. She is going to wear clothes which I styled together to refelect the Pyer Moss S/S20 Collection as well as colours of The Scream and current trending colour palletes. I am going to use the a white bed sheet and lanterns as a background. This links to my research of Streetcar Named Desire, white representing societies expectation of innovation in women and lanterns emphasising women’s desire to remain youthful in order to be loved. This idea is supported by sunglasses which will be worn to somewhat hide the face. I think this shoot will be work well as a hypothetical 10 Magazine shoot as the theme has stylish clothes and depth interactive for its prodomindent readers but by using a young model it brings in a more young audience too. Overall I want the photos to be quite bright and and almost have a film camera look, stylistic of 10 Magazine.Below is an example of the photography aesthetic I want to achieve, this is a previous shoot which 10 Magazine have done.

Kihmberlie
As I have to do the shoot in my garden I looked at Kihmberlie for inspiration. She creates her own shoots at home using different props and creativity and shares it with her following on platforms such as Instagram and Tik Tok. It was helpful seeing how backgrounds and props can be used in simple ways effectively.

Location Scouting
Similarly to models I could not cast locations. Therefore I had to come up with a creative way in which I could shoot at home. I was inspired by this shoot that 10 Magazine did and so I thought I can do something similiar in my back garden. I want there to be a presence of nature to reflect “The Scream of Nature” that Munch referees to. I looked at similiar examples of using a bedsheet as a background, one of the most popular examples is the Beyoncé shoot for Vogue.

Model Scouting
Due to the Covid-19 situation unfortunately I was not able to do model scouting and had to use someone within my household. Therefore I had to use my younger sister. She is smaller than the the clothes which I have, however this is okay as we can pin and grim any clothes that are too large.
These are her details:
Name: Veronika Ravinska
Age: 13
Height: 158cm
Clothes Size: 4/6
Shoe Size: 4
