I've been identifying birds since I was about a year and a half old and referred to the mourning doves on the feeder as "hello birds." I started my life list at 12. As an adult, I'm shit at songbirds but great at waterfowl and shorebirds. My absolute favorite birds are ruddy ducks, and one of my favorite things to see is American white pelicans flying in formation on a sunny day.

The four stages of becoming a birder:

Three retired surgeons were bragging about their accomplishments.

One doctor bragged that he had a patient show up with 2 legs missing from a tractor accident. He fixed him all up and he became the greatest basketball player of all time.

The next doctor bragged that he had a shark bite patient who had his arms bitten off. He fixed him up and he became a superstar NFL quarterback.

The third doctor laughed at them and said “Oh yeah? Well one time I had a patient arrive after being in a catastrophic car accident. The only thing they were able to recover was his asshole and a bag of Cheetos. I sewed him back together and he went on to become the president of the United States!”

This is Maggie's worm collection

She loves her worms more than any other toy. She plays with them loads and carries them around the house

At night the worms have to go in a box so that she doesn't wake me up playing with them. So every evening before bed I gather up the worms, put them in their box and have Maggie say goodnight to them.
