So long as everyone knows this was viewed as a challenge for generative AI.
But that doesn't negate the truth, it's essentially been trained on the entire internet including private data. So consider how much that would have cost if it hadn't been harvested already and support human artists.
Tumblr media
A sign every artist and crafter should have on their site and window.
When I get my site up and running I’m putting this on the Commission/Payment page.

Libraries? Get this, you can even go into public university libraries and so long as you respect the books you can read them.
It's in the public interest that people can access these works.
There is even a huge digital archive that it's free to join.
Seriously. Sign up. There are books from the 16thC for how to draw/write.
Tumblr media
Universities are digitising and uploading!
Tumblr media
Can't afford art school?
After seeing post like this 👇
Tumblr media
And this gem 👇
Tumblr media
As well as countless of others from the AI generator community. Just talking about how "inaccessible art" is, I decided why not show how wrong these guys are while also helping anyone who actually wants to learn.
Here is the first one ART TEACHERS! There are plenty online and in places like youtube.
📺Here is my list:
Proko (Free)
Marc Brunet (Free but he does have other classes for a cheap price. Use to work for Blizzard)
Aaron Rutten (free)
BoroCG (free)
Jesse J. Jones (free, talks about animating)
Jesus Conde (free)
Mohammed Agbadi (free, he gives some advice in some videos and talks about art)
Ross Draws (free, he does have other classes for a good price)
SamDoesArts (free, gives good advice and critiques)
Drawfee Show (free, they do give some good advice and great inspiration)
The Art of Aaron Blaise ( useful tips for digital art and animation. Was an animator for Disney)
Bobby Chiu ( useful tips and interviews with artist who are in the industry or making a living as artist)
Second part BOOKS, I have collected some books that have helped me and might help others.
📚Here is my list:
The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.
"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.
"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.
"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.
"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.
"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.
"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.
"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.
"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.
Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.
As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are more expensive.
For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.
💻As for art programs here is a list of Free to pay.
Clip Studio paint ( you can choose to pay once or sub and get updates)
Procreate ( pay once for $9.99)
Blender (for 3D modules/sculpting, ect Free)
PaintTool SAI (pay but has a 31 day free trail)
Krita (Free)
mypaint (free)
FireAlpaca (free)
Libresprite (free, for pixel art)
Those are the ones I can recall.
So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.
I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.
Hope this was helpful and have a great day.

Did anyone notice this little gem too?
"Change unaffiliated links into Tumblr affiliate links [toggle] If you use your own affiliate code, we'll leave your links alone."
So what do they mean?
Tumblr's affiliate code only gets added to links if 1) you haven't disabled Tumblr affiliate codes in settings, 2) you haven't used your own affiliate code, and 3) the link goes to a participating merchant.
And:
Do I get a cut of the money Tumblr makes from monetizing my links? No. But! VigLink lets you make affiliate links for your own use. You’ll need a separate VigLink account, but it’s stupid easy to get started. They even wrote these instructions for you.
Add in how Blaze works and wow.
You can in theory Blaze someone's post- and during the campaign they can't edit it to say someone's exploiting them (except by ending the campaign) so then you could reblog and monetise from there because popular posts tend to get people looking through those reblogs.
You need to protect your blogs from inside the house.
Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.
AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.
Here are the important details:
We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

I need to follow these links later, probably tomorrow.
I really need to do a post about placebo effect for similar levels of bullshirtery.
Nearly ever study hailed as proving placebo for pain? Nah. Just about the perception of pain. You still need pain relief.
And the studies that suggest the more invasive the placebo (sham surgery for instance) the more a patient believes they got the treatment?
Yep. That happens when you, I dunno, get attentive care in medicine versus either no or near non-existent care. It matters more what the clinician does/believes, so yeah.
To the point what matters most is what the clinician thinks they are/might be giving.
"don't go grocery shopping when hungry" doesn't work for me because Not Hungry Me cannot conceive of a universe in which food is needed so she buys like a cup of pomegranate seeds and some fancy cheese and thinks that'll get us through the week.

I think my favourite was being constantly told as a teen that I'll be fine once I got pregnant.
The actual solution was the combined pill.
And yet had I asked for contraception to prevent pregnancy I would have got it. So this was only ever about punishment.

By books do you include digitised books from the 16thC or is this strictly a post contemporary fiction question?
Because I have to read so much complete and utter tosh in order to not recommend objectively terrible works to people who just want to make a frock they love.

I am so screwed.
I'd be fine if the hard core gamers did their Vanilla 50 levels then left the rest of us to enjoy sightseeing and playing silly games but they don't.
So I'd be a repeatedly nerfed class, trying to be light in the dark, and constantly blamed for low QoL as it's woke to be included as a disabled person .. damn.
It'd just be life.
Never mind.
my last game is actually overwatch haha… wbu?

Just one?
Okay, but, and people who know me be prepared to be shocked:
Dried Coriander and Coriander seeds.
I FREAKING KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't stand the fresh stuff. It's straight up suffocating (on a receptor binding level is straight up is smothering.)
But the seeds with cumin seeds make a wonderful broth base for really gentle soups.
So with garlic and chili I'm set for almost any region.
tag your signature spice or herb. and no, it can't be garlic. we all use 18 cloves of garlic in everything. mine is smoked paprika <3

It used to be that type one was recognised as an autoimmune disorder (it is) but type two, oh that's a choice.
Turns out it's not.
We're having a similar reckoning in Arthritis.
Oh, Rheumatoid is an autoimmune disorder (it is, and I have it) but osteo, oh no, you could have prevented that.
Turns out, again, nope.
There is huge resistance to accepting that there are factors we don't have control over.
But Big Pharma I hear in reply.
Yeah, I know.
But they benefit from all disease *and* all good health because of this capitalist hellscape so screw them.
Ignore them, and ask why wouldn't we want to prevent disease by knowing how it *actually works?* Rather than blame victims?
If you insist that actually people make themselves sick then also insist that we are properly informed.
Do you want to able to keep wagging that blame finger and be right?
FWIW viruses are the single biggest risk factor for all disease because they forked our genes over even before we were human let alone in all the time since. They had to. They gave up all ability to reproduce *and* all ability to get nutrition from the environment in order to streamline their genome. And why did they do that? To limit errors in transcription. Our 3 Billion base pair might be risky but taken in context we protect generation after generation by staying diverse.
I saw a comment on your blog that says 'the way you eat does not cause diabetes'...are you able to expand on that or provide a source I could read? I've been told by doctors that my pre-diabetes was due to weight gain because I get more hungry on my anti psychotics and I'd like to fact check what they've told me! Thank you so much!
Pre-diabetes was rejected as a diagnosis by the World Health Organization (although it is used by the US and UK) - the correct term for the condition is impaired glucose tolerance. Approximately 2% of people with "pre-diabetes" go on to develop diabetes per year. You heard that right - TWO PERCENT. Most diabetics actually skip the pre-diabetic phase.
There are currently no treatments for pre-diabetes besides intentional weight loss. (Hmm, that's convenient, right?) There has yet to be evidence that losing weight prevents progression from pre-diabetes to T2DM beyond a year. Interestingly, drug companies are trying to persuade the medical world to start treating patients earlier and earlier. They are using the term “pre-diabetes” to sell their drugs (including Wegovy, a weight-loss drug). Surgeons are using it to sell weight loss surgery. Everyone’s a winner, right? Not patients. Especially fat patients.
Check out these articles:
Prediabetes: The epidemic that never was, and shouldn’t be
The war on ‘prediabetes' could be a boon for pharma—but is it good medicine?
Also - I love what Dr. Asher Larmie @fatdoctorUK has to say about T2DM and insulin resistance, so here's one of their threads I pulled from Twitter:
1️⃣ You can't prevent insulin resistance. It's coded in your DNA. It may be impacted by your environment. Studies have shown it has nothing to do with your BMI.
2️⃣ The term "pre-diabetes" is a PR stunt. The correct term is impaired glucose tolerance (or impaired fasting glucose) which is sometimes referred to as intermittent hyperglycemia. It does not predict T2DM. It is best ignored and tested for every 3-5yrs.
3️⃣ there is no evidence that losing weight prevents diabetes. That's because you can't reverse insulin resistance. You can possibly postpone it by 2yrs? Furthermore there is evidence that those who are fat at the time of diagnosis fair much better than those who are thin.
4️⃣ Weight loss does not reverse diabetes in the VAST majority of people. Those that do reverse it are usually thinner with recent onset T2DM and a low A1c. Only a tiny minority can sustain that over 2yrs. Weight loss does not improve A1c levels beyond 2 yrs either.
5️⃣ Weight loss in T2DM does not improve macrovascular or microvascular health outcomes beyond 2 years. In fact, weight loss in diabetics is associated with increased mortality and morbidity (although it is not clear why). Weight cycling is known to impacts A1c levels.
6️⃣ Weight GAIN does NOT increase the risk of cardiovascular OR all causes mortality in diabetics. In fact, one might even go so far as to say that it's better to be fat and diabetic than to be thin and diabetic.
Dr. Larmie cites 18 peer reviewed journal articles (most from the last decade) that are included in their webinar on the subject, linked below.

everyone says 'prioritize your health' 'look after yourself' until they realize that making your wellbeing your first priority means making everything else a lower priority. and yeah, that's sometimes ok if it's temporary, but if those health issues are chronic? oh boy do they not like it when you actually take their advice. sometimes prioritizing your health means neglecting your work, your household chores, your social life. 'looking after yourself' means not putting your energy into looking after everyone else first. and the same people who tell you to prioritize your health will get upset with you when they realize it means you're no longer priorizing them.
if you have disabled or chronically ill people in your life and you extend them sympathy and tell them to look after themselves when they're feeling sick, but then you get upset at then because they keep canceling plans. please. reevaluate.

This was just a dream in OP (though I have vivid nightmares like this and I can feel everything.)
Meanwhile here Tories have declared war on "backroom waste" at local and national levels and well... they got rid of council offices for people to say... request a rates rebate and shifted it all on to librarians. It used to be you went to the council building because everything was done on the day. By post 15 days.
Now?
Two months.
Oh but, to add extra fun, the libraries are facing their own cuts to hours.
Of 50%
To do even more work.
The last time this happened is when we wound up with the actual waste by contracting out what used to be in house.
I lived in the UK, and the UK had just outlawed libraries because they were “obsolete.” So me and my British pals organized a big protest to save the library. But we held this protest…in the library. It got demolished with us inside it and we barely made it out with our lives.

#looks directly at denmark. looks directly at denmark. looks directly at denmark#disability#ableism
For those who don't know most places that have euthanasia laws get abled people to accept them by claiming they are intended only for those with less than a year to live. Then expand access once the laws get passed.
"Seymour said he agreed to the six-month requirement to gain the support of the Green Party to pass the bill."
Denmark on the other hand went right to the point which is that it is for people with chronic pain.
"There is a group of people who cannot be helped with pain-relieving treatment. These are people who, for example, have been exposed to an accident or suffer from a chronic illness which causes them to suffer unbearably," she told the Ritzau newswire after the ruling.  "I think it will create a great sense of security in the population if you know that if you get into that situation, you can decide for yourself about this," she said.
The medication that works for us is already out there. But the anti-opioid fear and stigma and hate for addictions means we aren't allowed it.
So we're being artificially denied dignity in life in order to push for societal demand for dignity in death.
Just to be clear, if your idea of an ideal future at any point involves killing disabled people or allowing disabled people to die- you're not a punk, you're a fascist. Hope that helps
