today I learned that in 2008, the city council of florence overturned dante’s sentence of execution if he returned from exile. yes, dante’s inferno dante, who died in 1321.

but the funniest part of this is not that they were debating the exile of a man who has been dead for over 500 years.

the funniest part is that the vote was 19-5. five people voted to uphold dante’s exile.

theres one thing i fuckin hate about small dogs - the smaller they are the worse it gets - and it's the incessant yammering from (predominantly) (even seemlingly well-adjusted) grown men who can not. apparently. shut the fuck up about how much they dislike small dogs.

My boomer neighbor being parented by my Montessori and music educator neighbors through basic low level discomfort that he clearly has no capacity for will never not be funny. Actively trying to insult them "your generation can't handle harsh words" and "you have college educations but no common sense" and they're calmly taking him through a conversation about his feelings and how he thinks they can resolve a situation that HE completely blew up from nothing ... I just ... the irony 🤦🤦

As we get into Halloween season, this is your periodic reminder that pretty much all the bat parts that you find for sale are from unsustainable, unethical sources (secondhand is better, but even then they initially came from bad sourcing.) Just because it's legal doesn't make it right.

Some seed companies worth checking out:

- Fedco Seeds, a co-op with reasonable prices and reliable seeds

- Territorial Seed, an Oregon-based seed company, cool tools too

- Johnny's, along with the top two, one of the main companies small farms order from in my area

- Kitazawa seeds, really interesting Asian vegetable seeds

- Strictly Medicinal seeds, good variety of herbs, flowers, and veg.

- Uprising Seeds, a really small company here in Washington that focuses on heirloom & open pollinated seed varieties, with a focus on plants that can thrive in organic settings & flavor.

- Southern Exposure: focused on warm climate growing, so I've never ordered from them, but I've heard good things
