This is how I learned that the most horrifying video I was shown* in the 00s was thanks to a Boeing engineer. *Or at least remember the most. I only really remember it cuz the "mate" that was tryna shock me managed to give his laptop a fucking virus in the process and nothing is funnier than a bloke fucking up being a condescending edgelord cunt.
Given how two Boeing whistleblowers have died mysteriously under completely different circumstances, I think it's time we considered the possibility that Mr. Hands wasn't an accident, and Boeing took him out for what he knew.

before directors are allowed to put in the request for cgi they should be required to answer: “would lord of the rings have been able to do this by sitting somebody a little further back, using an apple box, or putting out a casting call for a really big pig?” and if the answer is yes they should consider finding a really big pig.

okay so it's set in the 2400s, but it's written as a historical document. Geographic nations don't exist anymore, instead there's fast accessible worldwide travel and people choose their own governments based on principles. One of the available governments is the freemasons and another is the Mitsubishi car company. Because of this thing called the Church War it's totally illegal to talk about religion but there's a new social institution that fills that role; similarly gender is super taboo but everyone thinks they've achieved a post-sexism society. Also instead of nuclear families the social norm is to live in a big house with all your friends. The narrator (who is unreliable as SHIT btw) is an enlightenment philosophy nerd who has been sentenced to lifelong servitude for infamous but unspecified crimes, but also constantly rubs shoulders with all the world leaders. The sex scenes are sooooooo weird and icky. Ultimately it's kind of about going to space to meet God? But don't worry about that part yet, it has to be a political drama first. The plot starts when someone steals a top-secret thinkpiece.

The best They Might Be Giants joke ever is in Terry Pratchett's "Soul Music," which features a band called We're Certainly Dwarfs.

this shit owns it's just a number go up idle game except the idle mechanic comes from you writing JavaScript to automate tasks it seems like the end goal of the game is to perfectly optimize against this little arbitrary system they've created. There's not any plot to speak of so far but even though nothing is happening people send you messages through the computer telling you to trust no one as they all have ulterior motives. Very relatable.

This is how I learned America does have the Pink Lady, they just seem to be using the cultivar name more. Anyway did not expect to see an apple that was bred in WA (Western Australia) by our Ag Department being actively used to make more cultivars in WA (Washington State). Would have thought it'd be too cold up there for that variety to be useful though.

Discord killing dedicated forums and then shitting the bed not ten years later reminds me how my city tore down a major historical district to make way for a corporate hq then the corporation moved out 12 years later to take advantage of lower taxes so now we're stuck with an abandoned office park and no historical district.

There is a post going around about the correct way to start reading Discworld.
It's a long post, and I don't want to derail it, so I made my own post to give you, my followers, the one Ture Correct Way to get into Discworld:
Go to a bookstore, ideally actually one of those shitty ones at the airport, but they tend to not have Discworld nowadays.
Failing that the best option is a Used Bookstore.
Both of these locations will have at most one Discworld book. (Airport b/c they are never well stocked, used bookstore b/c pratchett never stays on the shelf for long)
Take that book. That is your intro to the brilliance of Pratchett (probably, you may have read a non discworld Pratchett book before, but that seems unlikely) That's how I got into it, my first was Hogfather and it is still in my top 3.
If none of these options are available to you, got to whatever local bookstore and pick one at random.
Your intro will be unique (ish) your experience will be your own, and uncoloured by other peoples views!
