I did everything I was supposed to do. I went to the best college I got into, I went to all the orientation events, I joined clubs and did all the optional reading, I went home to see my parents and I went to church. I met a guy that liked the same things as me and cared about his mom and I cooked him his favorite food. I went to career fairs and edited and re-edited my resume and got a good job in the city that I showed up to on time every day. So what I want to know is why do I still feel like something has always been missing?

What if
“What if I never forget you? What if, all my life, when I meet someone new, I can never fall for them because they aren’t you?”

Have you ever just wanted to leave. Run away. Run far far away. And start new somewhere else. Start fresh. Begin again. Purely because you’re fed up. You’re bored. You’ve exhausted your time where you are. And the possibility of being somewhere else alone, creating again it’s just the thing that seems to keep you from falling apart.

There was a time- and our parents lived it- when waiting for someone to text you back wasn’t a possible worry. And Instagram captions weren’t something people could waste time thinking about. And you had to pick a restaurant without seeing Yelp reviews and you had to get there without Uber and you had to pay your friends back without Venmo. And social media couldn’t break up relationships. And you had to ring the doorbell when you were outside someones house and if you liked someone you had to use your voice.
