It's a gag-a-day strip, so there's no plot to resolve, and it famously drifts from being about one thing to being about another every now and then, so it's not getting minnd-numbingly stale, and it literally just introduced an entirely new setting full of wacky new characters, many of whom will likely be silently written out of the strip when it turns out they don't work and a few of whom will stick around.

And some day he'll probably write out Martin for real (as this storyline apparently was originally going to), and Faye and Dora and Pintsize as well, and there'll be no connection between the original Questionable Content and what the strip has become, but if people still like it (and Jeph's making 6 figures from those people), and Jeph is feeling creatively fulfilled with his new slimegirl thing, why should he end it?
