You know, if Spider Punk gets people interested in punk, good. We all have to start somewhere and Hobie is a damn good representation. If he is what makes a person goĀ ā€œhey, this seems cool, I should check it out.ā€ good. Thatā€™s one more person interested in punk and wanting to get into it.Ā
That being said, if you are new to punk(hi baby punks!) some things to keep in mind
1. Punk philosophy is largely anti-authoritarian. Individual and even punk communities differ on specifics, and some are more political than others, but the core themes tend to be resisting those who would control and oppress us, and supporting and including people in your community
2. Punk fashion SHOULD NOT BE EXPENSIVE. A lot of fashion companies will try and sell you jackets for a couple hundred bucks, but thatā€™s just corporations trying to cash in on a subculture. A big part of Punk and its history is DIY because Punk should be open to everyone and putting that behind a fashion paywall is just not punk. You donā€™t even need to be dressing punk to BE punk, but thrift your clothes. Make stencils and use spray paint or bleach to give it a pattern. Use old jeans to make patches. Buy your spikes and studs in bulk and go wild. Turn your old t shirt that doesnā€™t fit anymore into a back patch. Go crazy with some safety pins. You can make more with $30 than you can buy from a designer for $300. And skill is not needed, frankly if it looks a little wonky it makes it look more punk
3. Dental floss makes for good thread for sewing on patches. Itā€™s good for thick, stylistic stitches and is both cheap and durable. Donā€™t know why I made this its own point but itā€™s one of the most common tricks for punk DIY besides taking paint to scraps of fabric to make a patch. Honestly, if you want to know how to do more, just ask other punks how they made their vests and jackets, theyā€™ll probably be happy enough to tell you
4. Punk philosophy and music is closely related. The communities evolved around the music scene so it is closely linked. Give some punk bands a try if you havenā€™t already. Thereā€™s a bunch of subgenres so youā€™ll probably find something you like. From OGĀ ā€œproto punkā€ where the sound was still developing into what we call punk, to pop punk, anarco punk, and folk punk. There are people who say you canā€™t be punk if you donā€™t listen to the music, and thereā€™s a whole conversation to be had about all that, but itā€™s just a good idea to try listening to some punk music
5, Nazis fuck off
6. Seriously, nazis fuck off. Thereā€™s a whole history behind it and why we associate skinhead punks with neo nazis. Largely weā€™ve made it clear we donā€™t want nazis in our community and the street punk music scene that nazi punks became associated with has made strides to separate themselves from that.
7. Be cool and respectful of people regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender, background, etc. Solidarity with our community is important and all sorts are welcome. Gatekeeping isnā€™t cool and frankly women and minorities have done a lot for punk as a whole. Respect for everyone

December 2nd,
I'm in full crisis:
I have dealt with a social media stalker lying about me to anyone with an open anons for 4 years. Their motivation is entirely anti-Semitic. That the harassment has begun again during a period of violence against Jews, is not coincidental by any means. The harassment caused me to lose my last housing due to sustained financial hardship. I am not now nor have I ever been the terf my stalker claims and irrespective of saying so people claim I don't deny it.
The stalker has started up again. I'm already suffering financial hardship. I wasn't able to provide food for Thanksgiving due to the harassment.
I have rent due. That's $4500, insurance, phone, and I must pay people. Then my former landlord presented a bill for over $7000 which included two months of rent I wasn't living there.
I need some help, I need support because through all of this I'm a full time caregiver to my mom with dementia and aphasia and I'm opening an art gallery that is women's art focused and everyone who works here is neurodivergent and also femme identifying. In Colorado which is very cowboy art centric place.
I CANNOT move my mother again, I cannot lose this housing.

new tutorial, this time for "fake" medals you can use to decorate your jacket or any stuff really.
give yourself a weird award you yourself came up with, coorperations do it all the time!
Tumblr media
stuff you will need:
-scissors
-variation of pliers
-a stencil, the shape you want the fabric part of ur medal to be, make it a bit bigger so youll have room to sew
-piece of fabric two times the size of your stencil
-sewing needle
-sewing thread, i use dental floss
-safety pin
-paperclip, or just iron wire, around 1 mm Ƙ
-bottlecap
start with cutting out the two pieces of fabric for your medal using a stencil
Tumblr media
pin em to eachother, with the sides you want to be on the outside, facing inwards.
sew along the side but keep the top open, so you can flip it inside out.
Tumblr media
now you can flip in inside out, and fold the top around the safety pin, and sew it down
make sure the side of the pin that doesnt open is the one being sewn down. the opening part should be on top.
Tumblr media
bend the paperclip into something resembling the shapes in the pic below using the pliers, doesnt need to look good, mine sure dont
Tumblr media
bend the edges of the bottlecap to the inside, and pin the hook part of the right iron wire thing down under the edge
Tumblr media
connect the iron wire hoop you made (left in picture) to the piece of iron wire on the bottlecap. fold the point of the fabric part of the metal around the hoop and sew it down.
Tumblr media
should look something like this.
Tumblr media
now you can add decorations, you can paint the cap aswell as the fabric part, using patterned fabrics can also make ur medals look nicer.
ive seen people advise using modgepodge to seal the painted cap, instead of nailpolish, i dont have modpodge where i live but use that if youre able to get ur hands on it.
i hope this was clear, let me know if you want tutorials on any other stuff. i like doing them a lot.

I think the funniest thing that normies donā€™t realize is that punks LOVE arts and crafts. Patches and studs? Arts and crafts. Collaging band posters? Arts and crafts. Mohawk and hair dye in your bathroom? Arts and crafts. We are happiest with a pair of scissors and a glue stick and some paint

I upgraded my altiods tin sewing kit! (More details are in the image ID)
I added more needles, safety pins, thread, and a sharp pair of thread scissors just small enough to fit inside the tin. There's usually two needle threaders in here but one is in use atm. And there's enough stuff inside to fit perfectly so that the lid can close all the way and nothing slides around so that's nice
I am gonna post my little altiods tin emergency chronic pain/migraine kit within the next few days as well so keep an eye out for that if you're intrested
[ID: various pictures of a metal altoids tin, about 3.5 inches by 2 inches, with sewing supplies inside. A little bag of silver safety pins, varying colors of thread on 5 small spools, more colors of thread wrapped around two small rolls of paper and inside a small plastic bag, a folded piece of paper measuring tape, a small pair of orange thread scissors, a needle threader, and some buttons inside a little bag. There are varying sizes and types of sewing needles that are stuck in a small rectangular piece of green felt that fits on top of everything inside the tin. It has sharps, darning needles, embroidery needles and one curved needle.
The colors of thread included are: light pink, a muted rusty orange, white, a few shades of light brown and off white all wrapped around one piece of rolled paper. The other paper rool has more vibrant saturated colors including red, blue, yellow, dark green, and orange. The little bag had extra recycled pieces of thread i salvaged from other projects that are long enough to still be used. And the colors on the 5 small spools are black, dark mossy warm green, dark brown, light brown and white. End ID]
