“Damn it all. It really is freezing down here. How do these southerners stand it?”  

Audemar and Remiserys had just made it within sight of the southern wall, the entrance to the Drakonithe kingdom, and, as usual, Remiserys was complaining.

“Oh, I don’t know, perhaps they were born here?”, Audemar returned with a roll of his eyes.

“Sure, sure. Jest all you like. We both know you’re only taking it because Her Highness lives here.” Remiserys baited. They arrived at the base of the Wall, saving Audemar from responding.

As they dismounted, one of the watch guards approached their party. “King and Prince Asall?”, she questioned. At their nod she continued, “Her Majesty informed us of your impending arri–” She was interrupted by a resounding roar that echoed off the mountains in the near distance.

“Ah,” the guard said seemingly unfazed, “you’re just in time to see Her Majesty’s return. At her words a large dragon came soaring into sight. As it got closer Remiserys’ jaw dropped and Audemar’s eyes widened. Roenaan was riding the dragon; she was standing on its back.

Audemar couldn’t help but to notice how beautiful she looked. She was strong and majestic as she rode the undulating waves of the wind, her hair whipping behind her. The dragon dipped close to them and Roenaan landed on her feet a few paces away. She turned over her shoulder and called to the dragon in a language Audemar didn’t know, as it snorted smoke from its nostrils and flew away.

She turned to Remiserys with a smirk on her face. “I told you dragons were real.” Audemar sighed to himself. He’d missed that voice.

“Welcome to the South”, Roenaan addressed Audemar with a slight smile. She turned to the guard, “Have someone show them their quarters and ready the throne room.” The guard nodded, “Your Majesty”. With that Roenaan strode into the wall tower.
