Shepard had gone down to work off some steam, muscles aching to release some pent up tension in the days she had been cooped up in her hotel room, itching for something to do. As she arrived at the gym, she couldn’t help but feel taken aback--she was used to the idea of sparring,  but what was happening before her eyes seemed more than just a friendly means of sharpening up some skills. She held herself to the idea that if the victims started screaming for help, then she would interfere. “ I think the purpose of this room is to work out, not to kill, but to each their own. ” Her statement isn’t loaded but neither is it fully unconcerned, cautious and at the ready to break them apart if need be.

If there was one thing that helped balance Phasma, it was battle. Fighting was one of the few things that could truly balance Phasma and allow her to collect her thoughts without fail. After discovering that the hotel gym offered trainers, she signed up for a couple to join her. She met them down at the gym and without much warning, began to unleash all of her negative emotions on them, shouting angrily as she beat them up with expert finesse. Little did she know, however, that she was being watched.

“ oh, ” she regards his hand one final time, as if meaning to convey you should get that checked out, “ well i’m sure you’ll find someone to hear you out in the lobby, unless you’ve got plans to complain to someone in particular. ”

she smiles at the other woman’s curiosity, the fact that this world was almost two hundred years behind on tech just slipping her mind. “ yes, right here, ” shepard taps on her right ear and the skin just above it, “ outfitted with them when we’re old enough to interact with other ALIEN races apart from our own. just my luck that mine stopped working the minute i arrived at this hotel. ”

“ might just. charming, ” she took the bottle in hand before looking at him with raised brows. “ straight out of the bottle ? you seem to be lacking your typical murderer finesse. slip up again and they MAY JUST catch you, ” shepard chuckled again before taking a swig, holding it out to him.

“Wouldn’t want those 160 pounds of lean muscle to be against me so I’ll make sure to stay on your good side.” he said closing the door to his room and walking to the bottle. “You’re right, I’m actually a devilish mastermind and I lured you here to kill you.” he grabbed the bottle as he spoke, walking towards her. 

“ smart guy, ” she watched him as he crossed the room to retrieve the bottle, feigning shock at his mock revelation. “ sharing drinks with a killer, HM ? you know, i can’t say i haven’t done that before. wouldn’t be a bad way to go, if you were so inclined to add me to your hit list. ”

I’m 147 pounds of fragile bones, wouldn’t be smart of me to do anything.” he said walking to his room and holding the door open for the woman.

“ glad to hear that, i’ll keep a memo, ” she quirked a brow, shaking her head. “ you’ll be pleased to know that 160 pounds of lean muscle is on your side, for now, AT LEAST — thanks,” she said as she walked through the threshold of his door, “ for all i know you’re the murderer and this is all a part of your trap.  ”

“Maybe we should be encouraging a nice friendly game of charades instead.” She paused for a moment, a frown quickly forming as she looked down at the ground before back up at the woman. “That’s a thing here, right?” Sure, Raven had looked into a lot of things that happened before the bombs, but the history of charades wasn’t exactly something she had ever thought she’d need to know. “The betting still sounds a lot more fun though… I also really suck at charades.”

“ to be honest with you, i’m RUSTY at charades too. don’t exactly have much time to play when you’ve got a war to lead— ” she paused, realizing what she had just let slip. shepard let out a breathy laugh, more than ready to switch back to the topic at hand. “ —but yeah, i think that’s a thing around here, or, i really wouldn’t know. it’s worth a try, though i’m not sure if we’d pique interest; if not, one on one wouldn’t hurt. save us some embarrassment in the long run. ”

kaidan scoffed. ❛ what?? me, teasing my superior?! i would -    never! ❜ over-dramatic, faux offense was laced in his voice, his tongue-in-cheek smile only faltering when shepard spoke again. ❛ ha, you certainly would be giving these guards a run for their money if you did.  -    i’m glad you’re okay, though. ❜  the biotic would be lying if he said he wasn’t even slightly worried for shepard when he heard the news. he knew how incredibly unlikely it was -    i mean, she could ruin a guy just by giving him a stern glance! but with how weirdly well everything was going, eventually something has to happen -   right?

she’s not even going to mention that major outranks commander in alliance brass. “ that’s what i like to hear, soldier, ” her mock-serious tone fizzled away, the thin line of her lips breaking out into a smile coupled with a small laugh, relaxing slightly. “ YOU BET. having you as backup wouldn’t hurt either and  —” i’m glad you’re okay, though, her smile licked up a little wider, “ me too, ” shepard breathed, her arms and fingers betraying her as they motioned to reach out and embrace him, bolting them down to her sides before she could follow through. ( she hoped he hadn’t noticed ) “... how you holding up ? ”

“True – But a hotel, albeit in lock-down, is still a much better scenario than what I’m sure they’re dealing with.” Considering all the things Raven and her friends had already had thrown at them, what or whoever they could be dealing with right now wouldn’t surprise her in the slightest. “Eh, not really worried about them. They can handle themselves.” Even though Raven was sometimes a vital part of her friends survival, she was sure they’d manage to cope without her for a while. “I can try – You gonna be my assistant or whatever? Help me out and stuff?”

“ point taken, ” raven’s words made shepard think about the rest of her crew. however grateful she was of kaidan being there, he was one out of many, and she did not know what became of the rest of them. she shook it off, deciding to go along with the same they can handle themselves mindset, focusing on the present. she doesn’t press on the topic of friends any further. “ for sure, i’m at your service. these guys are either still panicked or bored out of their minds. think they’ll be needing a bit of a PICK ME UP. ”

The chances of the womans friend being the one who was killed was almost next to nothing. Had the roles been reversed, the younger girl definitely wouldn’t be worried. Her friends were quite terrifying when they wanted to be. You wouldn’t want to stumble across the ‘Great Wanheda’ in a dark alley. “Yeah, but y’know. Take bets now, pay up later. Something for entertainment. Just a thought.”

“ hey, at least your friends aren’t in a hotel lock-down for two whole days, ” shepard said, chuckling lightly, perhaps even hoping to have extended a few consoling words. after all, she had woken up at the hotel with no real recollection of why or how she’d gotten there, and despite being quite independent, it was a leg up to know someone else to orient herself with. " you’re right — but i’m sure your friends are fine. hope and faith, however cliché, will get you somewhere, ” shepard offered a smile. neither of them knew for certain, but there was the benefit of the doubt. “ ALRIGHT, sounds fair enough. you’re gonna wrangle everyone on the floor and create a betting pool? ”
