you work in transcription? can i ask what company you work for, if ur comfortable sharing, or how you got into it? i wanna get into transcription myself, bc im a disabled person with very limited job options, but there's so few places that pay well w/out needing to dedicate way more time/energy than i have to spare.
i work online for multiple transcription companies in the uk however i wouldn't wanna say the names in case it seems like i'm advertising or in case my account is found. wages are low a lot of times depending on what company you're with. if you're a fast typist and can tolerate keeping headphones on for a while, i'd say research some companies, find the ones you'd like to work with and contact them to apply. i'm a full time carer for my mother and take care of my father too when he's not working and for a family of three (where each of us have many ailments), the money transcription earns is simply not enough and without my father's job, we'd never be able to survive. i got into it due to the pandemic because i couldn't do english or persian classes anymore and couldn't attend any form of education because of how weak i am to the virus (my health condition sucks). it was also because my mother's condition had gotten significantly worse and i couldn't afford not to work from home and luckily transcription isn't too draining for me and i can still support my family. oh also having another language you can speak and write can be helpful because doing subtitles pays a lot better than transcription, i'd highly advise doing that or just do english subtitle commissions, there's lots of companies you could join for that. hope my story helps <3

It's all kinds of presumptuous and cruel of people to assume that people who haven't been vaccinate but are planning to get vaccinated are doing it out of malice. There's all kinds of reasons someone might not be able to get vaccinated when they would like (disability, legal issues, abuse, being immunocompromised, wait listing, travel/ living in remote area, ect, ect.) Not being vaccinated due to external or health barriers is NOT the same as being one of those smug assholes that go around 'protesting' to be able to go clubbing and eat out. Smh.
yes thank you! i really wish i could've gotten vaccinated sooner but i did get it done today so yeah,,, i honestly can't believe people are so aggressive towards people like me especially when they don't know the whole situation.

my final statement to my followers and @panicnecklace:
(no need to read but i'd appreciate if people read my side of the story.)
truthfully i think i was immature in this discourse and i apologise however you have time and time again questioned my suffering as a person of colour, especially as a middle eastern one because as you are aware, we are hated by everywhere. and i mean everywhere. and noé is a french brown person and most french brown people are typically either north african or middle eastern (especially at the time vnc is set) so i am 1000% sure i have a right to have an opinion on this matter. i want to say that i never ever said native americans aren't poc. i haven't tried to imply that at all. in your defense, i should've said 'i doubt you're native american', instead of saying 'i doubt you're poc.'. however you're going around attacking poc like me who have a different opinion to you, was i supposed to immediately think 'they're definitely also a poc just because they say they are'? i'm seriously questioning why you said that i am racist. it's as if demonising me is enjoyable. if so, i'm truly sorry for you because i do not want to demonise you. i am not uninformed about the topics i speak about because i am an educated west asian person. i have taught people all over asia about asian languages and cultures and i have studied it greatly. you act and behave as though i'm a مجّسمهٔ حماقت for poc.
that's a phrase meaning a 'statue of shame/idiocy', simply pronounced 'mojjasameye hemāghat'. hemāghat is in the same word family as احمق ahmagh meaning idiot (both arabic words), persian words being نادانی/نادان (nādānī = idiocy, nādān = idiot, directly translated to 'no knowledge'). mojjasame is also an arabic word (meaning statue) and is used in persian and the true persian word is تندیس (tandīs) but it is rarely used in informal speech nowadays. [in case you doubt me being a teacher.]
but i am not a statue of idiocy. i'm an educated afab person of colour. i have fought a lot for my rights and yes, i have an opinion. you never had to agree with my opinion. but how dare you call me racist? i've sat and taught in tajikistan about the history of america and the colonialism and pain that taints it, the suffering native americans and black people have been through. YOUR history and many others. i'm not saying this for a thank you or appreciation. i'm saying this because it's true. my life has been spent fighting for my rights, poc's rights and everyone-who's-ever-been-oppressed's rights. because i know what it feels like.
stop trying to turn my community against me. tumblr is one place i feel safe. how dare you try and ruin it for me? you could've disagreed with me. blocked me and moved on. but you demonised me and it hurt me deeply and reminded me of the xenophobia i've faced here in the uk. i won't forgive that but i hope you can forgive me if i hurt your feelings.
(once again adding: i've never said brownface, blackface or anything of the sort is okay. i repeat: i've never said that.)
sorry for the discourse on your feed, everyone, hopefully it's over and done with now! <3

understandable, sorry for assuming, have a nice day and pls stop attacking other poc for no reason other than being woke and performative!! <33
(ps: the severity wasn't downplayed. it's genuinely not as bad as other things going on in east asia. eg muslims being ethnically cleansed in china. feel free to block me. i know i'm a terrible person for caring about the bigger issues. it's probably because i HAVE bigger problems. once we fix the deadly issues, we can move onto this performative BS <3)

1) i am not safe in this country (the UK) and i think the main reason is because i'm persian/iranian, i've been attacked and i'm in several legal battles because of racism. there have been multiple attempts on both my parents' lives (both my brown father and my white passing mother), 2) i have to apologise if i seemed aggressive but that genuinely wasn't my intention, 3) you are the ignorant and wrong one for not being able to accept opposing viewpoints. you can keep your viewpoint, i didn't try to change it.
how dare you make assumptions about my life? how dare you think i go through less? in case you've forgotten the uk is a terribly racist country. boris johnson is literally the prime minister. the man who called muslim women who wear hijab and burkas "mail boxes". the country that's trying to drive out immigrants. the country that doesn't supply people their medicine if they're poc even if they've paid for it. my job is transcription. i don't work for a company, my employers don't know my race. i've worked in central asia as an english language teacher and language history educator. getting a job for me wasn't easy. i've never had a uk job from a white employer despite being educated in several languages.
you know nothing about my life. stop assuming things. if anything, imagine being so privileged that THIS is what you're arguing with me about. japanese people being colourist with their casting? yeah it's icky, yeah it's colourist and borderline racist, yeah it's not right but people are dying out here in the west just for being poc and this is the bigger problem? you're calling me privileged? give me a break;;;
edit: i seriously doubt you're a poc but i'm not gonna outright say you're a liar since i don't know you (i'm not one to assume unlike,,, some people) but by speaking to another poc like this, invalidating their opinion and experiences, you're just making us look bad. i am brown. i have a right to an opinion on this. you're brown? have an opinion on this too but it isn't more valuable than mine. if i had money, i'd donate to you but as i said, because of racism, my wages are going to lawyers and solicitors to get my mother's medication from the racist and corrupt nhs system <3
final statement
Let's discuss the VNC stage play and why I, as a POC, don't find it THAT offensive
It's still icky but not as much as it could be
(important to note that I asked my dad [who IS literally brown as can be] if he found it offensive... spoiler alert: he didn't.)
If a western country made this:
Tumblr media
I would be fuming. But I'm not fuming because they didn't. Western countries contain ethnic variety because of historical colonialism, migration and slavery/human trafficking. Japan doesn't have ethnic variety and that is okay.
is this even brownface? he doesn't look brown anyway (also a bad thing but we'll get to that later*)
vanitas' actor is japanese. vanitas is a white french boy. noé's a brown person (unsure of his origin but i hc him as north african). might not be the same level of offensive to some of you but this always happens. a lot of stage plays contain white people being played by japanese actors.
if both characters are being played by japanese people (all of them probs are), what's the big deal?
*we need to consider colorism is highly present around the world, especially in east asia. probably why noé isn't actually brown. it's something that needs to be worked on but at least vnc contains a brown character and is quite popular.
Japanese people who don't live in the west and aren't 100% familiar with western culture and racism here don't know how offensive blackface, brownface or cultural appropriation is because it's not offensive to them. Hell, they probably don't even have words for them. We certainly don't have words for it in my country which is also in Asia and coincidentally has a whole black ethnic group. As well as brown, tan, white... skin tones. Because it's a problem in the west. It's a problem when it's tied to colonialism and slavery. Not everyone knows about it. All of the people complaining about this are being slightly self-centred. Not everyone is a westerner.
It's irritating to see this happening, yes. But this online uproar and performative activism isn't what POC need. Real brown human beings are going through worse. An anime character isn't what needs protecting. Yes, media representation is important and nice for us but we prefer being able to walk down the street without constantly being on edge :)

You haven't gotten your vaccine yet? I've had mine for like a year because I work in a restaurant. What have you been waiting for? You've probably killed someone now because you haven't gotten it. You must be inconsiderate as fuck.
quite presumptuous of you to think i've gotten the virus. i have severe asthma, sleep apnea and post nasal drip- had i gotten the virus, i wouldn't have lasted a day so i couldn't have infected anyone. i work from home and live with my parents since they're both ill and have both been vaccinated. my father is the only person who commonly leaves the house. i'm not inconsiderate because i've wanted the vaccine for a long time but because i do transcription, work at home and do not get treatment from the nhs and have had problems with them in the past, present and am in a legal battle with them, that's why i wasn't eligible sooner and i've also had multiple personal issues that have caused me to miss my appointments. i always wear a mask and i am an excessively compulsive person when it comes to cleanliness. thank you for assuming that i'm inconsiderate though, i doubt i'd have decided to be a full time carer had i been inconsiderate and selfish! <3
(word of advice: dont take liberties when assuming people's personal lives on social media!)

this is interesting but i'll have to disagree with some points. even if they know about what blackface and brownface is, they can't take it as seriously as we here in the west can. we see it differently to them. it's unfortunately true and if you really don't want to support it, you shouldn't. i don't support it either- i have not once said blackface or brownface is okay or in any way, shape or form acceptable. i have explained why it's not that offensive to me as someone who is literally half brown in case i didn't stress it enough in my original point and i have taken into account my brown parent and brown family members' opinions. i have literally called it icky in my original post. i'm just saying it's not as black and white as you may think it is. i genuinely think that ignorance is the main root of this problem. i've never said there's no dark skinned poc in japan, heck there's dark skinned japanese people and in case you've forgotten, japanese people ARE poc. japanese media is consumed in the west but awareness of western issues isn't japan's strong point. japan and japanese people only see what the west wants them to see whether via media or news. it's unfortunate but true.
edit: i have also mentioned colorism. it's as if you read the title of my post, skimmed through and found things you disliked and immediately typed this whole thing out. i'm not excusing anything. i'm saying this isn't as big an issue as other issues poc who aren't east asian face in east asia and issues that brown people face around the world are more serious than uninformed colourist costume design. capeesh?

i think one of my favourite things about vannoé is that noé is the Big Precious Angelic Pure Blessed-By-The-Sun-Itself Baby™ of the relationship and vanitas the Tiny Emotionally Constipated Gremlin Mysterious-Yet-Sexy Compulsive Liar Manchild™ and yet noé is somehow older,, like i feel like the whole big baby trope is usually used when the taller person is younger and that's why they're childish but noé is literally just childish for the sake of being childish. honestly, it's probably why he's one of my favourite characters of all time.
