the thing about the odyssey is that at first it tricks you into thinking it's about THE man but then over the course of the poem you realize he's just A man. from the moment we see him weeping and longing for his home to the moment he sleeps in his marital bed for the first time in 20 years you realize you've been conned into thinking he's something more than he is, when at the end of the day he's just a man

Big fan of characters realizing they don't get to die. They have to live. And grow. And be a person. And deal with shit they thought they'd never have to. And be fucked up about it. I would like more of this. Enough dying for honor or as redemption. It ain't. You're just a corpse. There is no moral value in dirt time.

The weird way that upper class people show “love” in this cold and distant manner is like. Well I’m at my caretaking job and I’m just thinking about how this couple’s family loves them / believes them to be good parents but will stop by and say “hi” but not do the basic work that needs to be done. Like they’ll sit and talk but they won’t drop off a meal or throw a load of laundry in. I could write a much longer think piece about this but like how much do you really love someone if you’re not willing to do the dirty work for them. I think about this too in relation to couples that have tons of money and like live in multiple houses at different times which I’ve seen a lot up here like how deep can your love really be if you’ve never had to share a mattress on the floor in a shitty apartment or share a car or put together your last money to buy them cold medicine when they’re sick.
