First Post Ever!
I have recently chosen to begin a vegan lifestyle. I created this blog to document my journey.  My hopes are to educate, be educated, and to laugh a little along the way.  I had a conversation with a friend/coworker today who has been a vegan for a year now and I asked her what her turning point was. She said couldn’t remember specifically but she remembers crying a lot(which we had a good laugh about).  When she asked me what my turning point was I laughed because my journey has been almost like an on and off switch.
I’ll give a little back story on my food and life choices.  As a kid I was the one who only wanted chicken nuggets, chocolate milk, mac and cheese, and cheeseburgers.  Once I was in my pre-teen years I was a lot more open to trying food which got me into steak(filet minion to be specific), various seafood, and lots of burritos.  So you could I say I was the very opposite of vegan.
Then when I was 13/14 something strange happened.  I was on a trip with my parents and best friend at the time.  We were going to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland! But to my dismay my parents took up to McDonald's for breakfast. I was already annoyed we were doing this and then I got my food, a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. I was so grossed out by the sausage on the sandwich I swore I’d never eat red meat again as my parents rolled their eyes at my teen angst. Little did they know this would not be something too soon forgotten.
Luckily my best friend Mackenzie had just gone vegetarian so once we got home I decided to join her in this new journey. We learned to cook tofu and amazing stir fry together.  Attempted and failed at various online or magazine recipes.  After about six months of this I caved and had a Swedish meatball at my friends Super Bowl party.  I decided this was just too hard for my fourteen year old self to do anymore and I gave up my vegetarianism for burgers, sushi, and again, lots of burritos.
Years went by and I found myself 60 pounds lighter at the end of high school due to unhealthy dieting and exercise. And yes you read that right it was unhealthy.  Meaning I was eating not enough and exercising a little too much.  Once college and depression hit me harder than ever those bad habits halted and were turned into over indulging.  Before I knew it I had gained most of the weight back.  Then one day my vegan friend Katie invited me over to watch a movie.  It was either cowspiracy or something of that sort.  After the crying and anger that came with this movie I decided I would be vegan.  Unfortunately I was only 20 and had NO idea what I was getting myself into.  I ended up becoming a junk food vegan and dropped the idea after about a month.
So obviously I have some how got here back to being vegan.  This time is different for me though.  Although it was spiked by watching the Netflix doc “What the Health” I am more serious and determined to make this lifestyle change for good. Also today I started listening to the podcast “Earth to Us” and those girls really inspired me to share my story and find more resources. I feel that being a good example for others is important.  I want to educate and be educated.  I want to meet other vegans and hear your stories! So let’s share, let’s educate, and let’s be vegan!
