I didn't want to add this commentary to the original post, but we all recognize these days how HORRIFIC the Truman show is and I assume that's because we feel horrified by how constantly monitored we all are.
I think about these YouTube kids we're seeing who are growing up and filing for emancipation and suing their parents for exploiting them all these years. The Truman Show is no longer fantasy, it's a reality. And it's awful.

I watched it for the first time a few hours ago and I do not exaggerate when I say that it is a masterpiece.

This is completely off topic, but y’all!
If you aren’t afraid of mild horror GO SEE A HAUNTING IN VENICE
It’s genuinely so good. The perfect blend of the horror and mystery genres to create this spooky, eerie, intriguing film. Literally obsessed with it. It’s the perfect film for spooky season with incredible acting and a genuinely interesting, edge of your seat plot.
GO SEE IT

A Haunting in Venice + rain
"The rain obviously was very atmospheric and for my taste I would have had thunderclaps all over the place! But Ken [Branagh] was keen not to overdo those tropes. And hopefully we found the sweet spot of having some fun but without overdoing it. But again, it all leads into this: the house has been there longer than the humans that are currently inhabiting it. The weather itself is subsuming the house and the house is sinking. It's rotting, it's leaking, it's groaning. The electrics are dodgy. You have the feeling that anything you touch might be the last thing you ever do. Just to give it that jagged, dangerous feeling of hum, of atmosphere, of the danger that they're cut off from the outside world and reason." - Lucy Donaldson, the editor of A Hauting in Venice (Art of the Cut interview, September 21 2023)

I loved that the first trailer for A Haunting In Venice looks like a generic horror movie until the final shot reveals that Hercule Poirot is there, and I want more trailers that disguise the true nature of the film before the very end. Specifically I want to see a trailer for a sappy rom-com that ends with the main couple about to be wed when the priest asks if there are any objections, only for the doors to slam open and reveal Benoit Blanc standing there about to make that ceremony a fiasco to remember

sleepy sex with your lover, lots of kissing and closeness, holding each other, skin feeling so warm and soft that. feeling each other all over until you’re both too sleepy to think, falling asleep under the covers in each others’ arms
