The way you spend most of the book thinking that Xie Lian just has incredibly terrible luck as a character trait, and maybe you even start to believe—in the most horrifying “I don’t want to believe this” way—that Xie Lian rescuing a child from a gruesome death is what cursed him to his terrible luck (as per what every other character tries to pressure Xie Lian into believing).

Then you find out that Xie Lian only has terrible luck because he gave his luck away. One of his banishment collars is literally to redistribute his luck as per his own wishes so that others born with less luck could receive more, and this wish in particular was probably very closely tied in to his rescuing of young Hong Hong’er, who Guoshi told him was innately unlucky and thus deserved death in order for the most beloved prince to continue living his privileged life as usual. And then he spends 800 years wandering the earth with shit luck, still helping others where he could and refusing to turn back on his morals like he almost did before, just because his luck had changed.

Xie Lian used his momentary faltering as a lesson to never let “bad luck” demoralize him from his own morals, and he really is a good person for this.

Au where feng xin and mu qing learns about what happened to xie lian after they left him and both of them are just there sitting beside each other, drinking alcohol and staying silent as their guilt builds up. In the end they can't help but break down each other and end up crying/fighting so they can vent their anger to themselves to something else.

When his gaze met Xie Lian's inside his grimy hideout I realise it was the first time in 800 years that he saw him again. What if (angst) Qi Rong wanted to be found? When Xianle fell, he wanted to make sure that his hero would find him, announcing his name everywhere so that the Prince could know. I wonder how long he waited before he realised Xie Lian truly wasn't coming. He wasn't important enough to even visit, or check on, for 800 years.

Personal theory is that one reason Hua Cheng sculpted all those statues of Xie Lian at Mt. Tonglu was because he wasn’t actually sure he was going to survive. I think he carved them so that even if he didn’t make it out of the volcano, there would always be at least one remaining shrine to Xie Lian hidden deep underground. We know that gods rely on having followers and temples to survive, the ones that don’t fade out eventually. We also know that if a ghost isn’t strong enough to survive inside Mt. Tonglu once it closes, they are destroyed. I think Hua Cheng knew that and wanted to be sure that even if something happened to him, Xie Lian would be alright.

one thing that I really want to see is feng xin & mu qing finding out how ruoye came to exist and the implications of xie lian always wearing it, especially at the beginning

I love each version of the ‘Lazarus pits are just ectoplasm’ idea but i my favorite would be the ‘the Lazarus pits are the equivalent to junk food for ghosts’

BUT you know what no one has probably done? A ‘Lazarus pits are the ghost-equivalent to catnip on crack’ version. why would the pits have this effect? Who knows but because they only spawn in the human realm it’s a delicacy and after Danny accidentally thinned the area around the pits, a natural portal spawned leading his rouge gallery to the ghost-drugs on drugs.

He’d probably not realize their gone since he’s the ghost king, and eventually word gets out about the huge pit, having more ghosts flock to the portal. Danny gets told finally after All those ghosts start chaos in the Dcverse.

John, probably: Okay what the fuck did y’all do because there’s hundreds of Infinite realm’s ghosts starting up shit everywhere?? The rest of the JL: The what ghosts??

Danny’s basically ghost police and they all scatter away from each other, And now Danny’s running around with hundreds of thermos catching all these ghosts. He’d be so embarrassed that his subjects all got high and ‘trashed the JL’s place’ basically.

Danny: OMG I’m so sorry I can’t believe they did this, I’ll help you clean up their messes *the messes being hundreds of dollars worth of damages, several natural disasters, and graffiti everywhere*

I love the way he’s smart af and creative in fights. Like he’s clever and confident during all of the battles we’ve seen him in. He’s also not scared of taking the fall/risk for the team which I adore about him.
