Blog 2: Image Regulations
1. Explain what copyright means.
Copyright provides creators with an incentive to create new works and a legal framework for the control of their creations
 2. Why do we have copyright laws?
The reason we have copyright laws is in order to protect the properties of authors from copying art, as well as to reward the creators of said works.
3. How long does copyright last?
Copyrights of works usually last for around the life of the creator plus 70 years since the 2005 Australia - US free trade agreement As a result, the rules now are that copyright generally lasts for the life of the creator plus 70 years and where duration depends on year of publication, it lasts until 70 years after it is first published. Note, however, that the duration of copyright varies from country to country.
4. What will happen if you break copyright laws?  Find two (2) examples of when copyright laws were broken, and what action was taken.
If you break the copyright law, you’re infringing upon the author’s rights and it would lead to having the infringed materials removed, payments of money earned through the infringed items or worse, jail sentence.
Find two (2) examples of when copyright laws were broken, and what action was taken.
Fairey v. Associated Press
The iconic “HOPE” poster for Obama’s presidential campaign was created by Shepard Fairey, a famous street artist who was actually sued by the AP for his appropriation of a photograph of Barack Obama. Fairey hadn't asked for permission to use the AP image of Barack Obama and didn't follow copyright laws to appropriate the image and make money off of it. The case eventually settled, but the questions raised regarding the limits of fair use continue.
Banksy vs Milan exhibustionist
Banksy is a worldwide street artist known for his very moving images of distinctive stencilling style. In 2018 Milan Started selling unauthorised Banksy merchandise at their Museum shop such as notebooks, postcards and erasers. They had not been approved and broke copyright laws, in Turn Banksy successfully sued the Museum and had the Products removed from the Museum.
5. What percentage, if any, of a copyrighted image are you legally allowed to use in your artwork?
No percentage at all. No one is allowed to legally use any percentage of a copyrighted image in their own artwork unless the right legal agreements have been met with parties of said work. Even ten percent of a copyrighted image is still using ten percent of it and thus violating the copyright laws.
 6. What are moral rights?
“Moral rights” are the rights each and every individual creator has in relation to copyright works or films they have created. The creator of a work, who holds moral rights, is not necessarily the owner of copyright in the work. Creators have three moral rights. These are the right, to be attributed (or credited) for their work ,not to have their work falsely attributed; and not to have their work treated in a derogatory way.
7. How can you assert your copyright and moral rights when publishing your original artwork?
When you Publish a piece of work you automatically gain the copyrights and moral rights  to your own original artwork when you publish it, there is no need to the author to register for anything else. ‘ Copyright Is automatically created by writing down a story; typing up a poem; shooting film footage; recording music; and taking a photo. Copyright protection is free: there are no procedures to follow or fees to pay.’ Taken from Australian copyright council INFORMATION SHEET G010v20.

Blog 1: Image Types and Tools
 1. What is vector art and why is it used widely in both screen and print?
Vector art is essentially art works or digital images made up of Vector graphics that allow creatives to build high-quality works of art, with clean lines, curves, points, lines,  and shapes that can be scaled to any size.
Vector art is defined in terms of points on a Cartesian plane and based on mathematical formulas. The beauty of creating a Vector image file is they're high resolution so when creating vector art there's no loss of quality, so it can be sized to however large or small you need it to be.
2. What are the benefits of using Adobe Illustrator to create digital images?
Adobe Illustrator is an excellent program that offers a wide range of tools to create amazing Vector art, often seen as the best for people looking to create Digital images. Benefits from the Program are endless but i think most notability is the ease at which one can master its functionality.
The program can be used by artists wanting to create digital artworks or for creative designers that can use it to create advertisements, websites, or anything else that features careful organization of text, graphics, and other structural elements. For putting company logos on business cards, creating poster designs. Illustrator is constantly updating and keeping up with modern technology offering modern tools to tackle digital art with ease.
3. Briefly explain the purpose of the Pen tool, the Brush tool and the Pencil tool when creating digital images, and describe when it would be appropriate to use these tools.
The purpose of the pen tool is to help create clean lines for your digital works on Illustrator. The Pen tool is used to  create and edit anchor points and paths, it's one of the most powerful drawing tools, it would be best used to draw freeform path outlines for your works.
The Brush tool lets you stylize the appearance of paths you apply to your works You can apply brush strokes to existing paths, or you can use the Paintbrush tool to draw a path and apply a brush stroke simultaneously..
They're great when you want to make things look more natural in your works, like when you are sketching in book, a similar approach can be taken. They are great for drawing the fine lines and details on an image for example wrinkles, hair stands, and any other natural-looking strokes.
The pencil tool is a great tool for creating freeform shapes and lines, its best use is when you want to create odd shapes with free hand lines with a hard edge.
 4. Find three (3) examples of vector art that you like. Upload (with referencing) each image and specify: a. What tools you think were used to draw each of the artworks b. Why you think these images work well.

By TOKYO CANDIES
I think Tokyo Candies has used lots of different tools to create this Image but mainly the shape tools to create the main shapes of the bodies, hair, hate , glasses and even the Japanese text in the background. Using lots of different gradients with each shape and also using lots of different effects to create shading and maybe the pen tool to create the lines on the socks.Tokyo Candles also would have used a lot of different brushes to add a lot of the end shades and details like the blushed cheeks and the lines behind the character. This Image works well with the soft colour palette the artist has chosen to follow and blends each gradient with the image nicely.

ARTWORK BY Brandon Loving Brandon Loving
Illustrator
http://brandonloving.com
I think in this artwork the artist has used a Pencil tool to create the main outlines of his lion and bird. Then primarily used the brush tool to create all the fine strands of hair and outlines of the subject.
I think this image works really well as a display of digital art having the same effect as a hand drawn or painted image, showing how different brushes and effects can still look so raw and give us the same feeling as a physical painting.
Tumblr media
Artwork by T-Wei http://t-wei.tumblr.com/
The artist T-wei would have sketched up some image on paper and inserted into Illustrator, then used Photoshop effects and selected Artistic, then that would have helped lay a foundation to follow. T-wei would've used the pencil tool to help fill great masses of colours in the image and then used a bunch of different brushes to help add all the details like lines in the hair or even the beanie.
I think this Image works super well because of the colour palette used and the chosen position of shadows to give a great sense of a light source to really help the Image pop.
