Aaron Ehazs's idealistic concept of Azula's redemption with Zuko ~guiding her out of abyss~ doesn't sit right with me considering Zuko, intentionally or not, played a great reason why Azula hit rock bottom in the first place. Yes, Ozai ruined her life, but Zuko was the one who pushed the domino that led to her most traumatic breakdown she'd ever experienced. Not to menion 90% of the series he viewed her as an obstacle/rival and suddenly the next season he would supposed to be her Iroh?
It also rubs me wrong that Zuko is the only person he mentioned, almost like Azula's healing, her identity, her world, her agency, HAS to be centered around her brother. Thank god there wasn't fourth season.
I have to agree. Zuko and Iroh are the people who both never showed her an ounce of kindness and who are directly responsible for ruining her life. Having her "redemption" be about her forgiving and obeying them and hating herself and her actions due to their "kindness" feels wrong. It feels like Azula is crawling back to people who never cared about her when it mattered, just because she's so deep in despair that she can be bribed by the slightest trinket, the slightest sliver of hope that someone might slightly care about her

For me it's crazy how Zuko was always afraid of Azula, as young as probably 4y old? While Azula was like... 2?
Azula was really born and everyone already taking their prejudice on her cuz Ozai decided that was her favorite cuz she was born with the spark while the kid was still on diapers, are you kidding me? No wonder she's the way she is 😭
No matter how badly they write her in some comics, I could never hate on that kid. Literally the entire world is against her and the fact her mental health have gone worse and NO ONE decided that maybe those institutions are bullshit makes me want for her to just go her own way and never ever again go back to her family.
Girl fuck ur family and supposed friends, get urself a cat, a nice therapist and some bad bitch as ur gf, the rest will come alone

Maybe the reason Azula is often a jerk to Zuko isn't just because Ozai trying to divide the Fire Siblings. Maybe it's also because Zuko is often a jerk to her and never does anything kind for her.

I mentioned something about this awhile ago but it is absolutely incredible to me how Mai is an interesting and important character when the writers chose to explore her relationships with Ty Lee and Azula and the trauma she suffered when her parents tried to shove her into the role of perfect Fire Nation lady, but looses all of her dimensions the moment she was paired romantically with Zuko. It kind of reminds me of what happened with Katara in the comics.

Friendly reminder that, even if Azula had been the nicest possible person to her friends and her brother, it would have solved literally none of her problems.

I'm getting so tired of all the same annoying posts I keep seeing, that claim that Azula fans are acting like Ozai, in a way that they believe what Ozai told Azula about Ursa, that Ursa hated her and that he messed with Azula's perception of her mother.
Except there's no evidence in canon that Ozai somehow messed with Azula's perception of Ursa. None.
It's just a headcanon.
Tumblr media
From everything we've seen in the show, Ursa has left Azula with the impression that she has thought of her as a monster all on her own.
Tumblr media
Even if you choose to interpret the show that way, for God's sake, stop calling everyone who disagrees stupid and gaslighting people into believing that your headcanon is actually canon.

If Zuko gets to choose Katara as his "replacement sister" because Azula is "too mean," then Azula should get to choose Sokka as her replacement brother since Zuko is too much of a dick to her.

Katara is never officially recognized for her massive war effort (she was just as essential as the war ending to Aang). Mai puts a life on the line for a man who continuously embarrasses her and shows that he has adopted many of his abusive father’s unhealthy relationship habits. Suki finally got her own comic and has still managed to receive absolutely no characterization.
I’m of the opinion that Azula has to be redeemed by the narrative due to the heinous message that anything otherwise suggests, and I also think using her as a character would open up much better story options. Despite Bryke’s flag-waiving, feminism crying image, they have shown you how characters that they like are treated by the narrative. And with the particular positive attention that Azula brings (which they have all but openly said greatly annoys them) even as a villain, I really do believe they would snuff her out just to keep the spotlight on their favorite boys Zuko and Aang (don’t get me started on how they treat Sokka).
With the new atla movie approaching, it’s getting close to the time where they decide whether to treat her as an animal or an object.
p.s- i’m not anti- any of the ships i referred too. i actually really enjoy maiko, and kataang doesn’t bother me. it’s just that i will call a spade a spade in any circumstance.

Unpopular Opinion
The people who become master benders without having to put in the hard work and without having to struggle aren't Azula or Toph or even Aang, they're Katara(becomes a master good enough to teach the Avatar within a month of finally getting formal instruction) and Zuko (get's a convenient dragon-shaped powerup rather than having to actually master the fundamentals).

Ozai died, Azula became Firelord, ended Zuko's banishment, and welcomed him home as her heir, and now Zuko is endlessly pissed that his father died without ever recognizing him and that Azula ended up with "his throne," and he alternates between trying fulfill Ozai's expectations, even though Ozai is gone, and (badly) plotting to overthrow Azula and take back the throne.

i feel like we need to make a list of things what redemption ISN'T
being forgiven
befriending the protagonists
having a nicer personality.
Can you add anything?
Obeying and serving the correct male relatives
Being a good sister
Being willing to murder family members for your brother
Suffering
Being forced to marry the Avatar
Killing your father
"Accepting that your mother always loved you"
Begging for forgiveness
Making good with your mother
Giving up any ambition and instead dutifully spending the rest of your life serving your brother and his family

It is a little complicated to explain due to the cultural differences that I have, but honor in Mexico focuses on personal dignity "not bowing your head" (that is, values such as personal responsibility, compassion, putting the fulfillment of general duty before that of the personal one, AND NON-BETRAYAL), and the achievements you make in your life with dignity but for this they also generally have to be recognized by your own "group" and people outside your "group". That is why reputation is closely linked to honor because although there may be people who banish you to the core, they themselves cannot deny that you have honor. I do not know if I explained well
EDIT. I forgot to mention that education also gets in the way. If you are a person who has a decent vocabulary and lacks profanity, you will look much better.
Do you think Azula would agree with this quote?
“Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself... Guard your honor. Let your reputation fall where it will. And outlive the bastards.” ― Lois McMaster Bujold, A Civil Campaign
