Exercise
1. The benefits of having a pet
Pets play a great role in our emotional and physical well-being. Pets are not humans but they display a lot of human qualities like strong personalities and emotions which also make other people think of them as a part of their family. Almost all families in this whole worldwide world have their own pets at home. This is because, pets can not only give protection but they can also relieve stress. On an emotional level, having a pet can lessen depression, stress and anxiety; health-wise, it can reduce your blood pressure, enhance your immunity and even decrease your risk of heart attack and stroke (Gekas, 011).
Some people think that having a pet in the house gives heavy work. Yes, having a pet can be troublesome and annoying sometimes because of the duties that you have to do such as cleaning their dirt but that is a part of life. Animals may not be able to help you in household chores or in your work but they can give you comfort and unconditional love. As most people say, the only thing that could love you more than you love yourself is your pet. Having a pet in your house gives you big time benefits because sometimes, they do not just see you as their owner but also as a family. People with emotional sickness can use their pets as an instrument to heal them. Sometimes, they can fill people's emotional emptiness.
However, some people have pet-allergies that’s why they can’t have pets in their homes. The symptoms that result are an allergic reaction. If you think you have pet-allergies then it’s better to avoid contact with them and consult a doctor.
**~
Generally, my purpose is to persuade.
So, for the first-grade children, the tone should be entertaining, approachable, friendly and at the same time cautious because surely, children love pets but some of them have allergies.
For parents, the tone should be formal yet approachable at the same time so that they can be easily persuaded.
For people who prefer cleanliness, the tone should be more formal and cautious because they might get triggered and offended.

Prom (Journal Writing)
February 2017
After the hot and tiring practice for the promenade, students helped the teachers to decorate and get their venue ready for the one of the most memorable life of a high school student, the JS Prom. When everything was ready, everyone went to their homes to prepare themselves for the big event.
Feeling nervous and excited, a girl readied herself as she went to her friend’s house to help each other to prepare. A make-up artist was hired to do their hair and makeup which was done really pretty good. Her mother helped her get dressed in her flattering beaded tulle and blue satin gown with illusion neckline and lace up back that perfectly fits for her which made her look more innocent and lovely. On the other hand, her friend was dressed in a stunning A-Line exquisite strapless red ball gown with crystal detailing. Both of them looked gorgeous and fabulous. When they were done preparing, they went to their prom venue and headed to their own group of friends and classmates. They took a lot of pictures of themselves to serve as a remembrance for the night.
The program started at 7 pm and she was really enjoying herself. There’s a lot of foods on their table and so she started digging in just like her friends did. Just like any other event, everyone stood up for the opening prayer. She and her friends were actually naughty because they talked to each other out loud and secretly eat snacks while the opening prayer was currently being held. A teacher in a long red gown approached their table and told them to shut up because they were being noisy and annoying and that they were disturbing the others. The teacher then asked her and her classmate’s name and walked out which made them keep quiet. She begun to tremble in nervousness, her legs became weak and she couldn’t think straight. She knew that she’s in trouble as the teacher got her name. After the opening program, they returned to their seats and she wasn’t enjoying herself anymore. The party was yet to start but her night was already ruined. Her classmates cheered her up and she was told to just enjoy the night so she tried to forget what happened. A few of her male classmates invited her to a dance and she willingly accepted them. Slowly, she found herself enjoying again.
The promenade was successful and fun though she had a trouble in their prom parade because some wore long tail gowns and almost everyone was having a hard time in walking because they could step on each other’s gown. After that, the convocation and candle lighting ceremony were done, and it was really a beautiful sight seeing the junior and senior students unite in one night. Then, the party started with lots of wonderful songs. The students formed a big circle and danced and jived altogether. Everyone had their smiles worn in their faces including her, the shy and introvert girl.
She went back to their table to rest her tired aching feet. It wasn’t a romantic prom for her but it’s truly a night to remember. It’s been a while since she had so much fun and surely, she’d treasure that very moment for the rest of her life. After the announcement of prom queen and king, they decided to go home because it was already 1 am and she was already feeling sleepy. However, the incident with the teacher was not forgotten and she was still anxious about it that’s why she decided to herself that she would not study in that school for senior high school.

E. Transforming the Context of Manuel L. Quezon’s Speech into Hypertext
"I want our people to be like a molave tree, strong and resilient, standing on the hillsides, unafraid of the rising tide, lighting and the storm, confident of its strength." - Manuel L. Quezon in his 1938 Address.
Tumblr media
Manuel Luis Quezón y Molina (August 19, 1878 – August 1, 1944) was a Filipino statesman, soldier, and politician who served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. He was the first Filipino to head a government of the entire Philippines (as opposed to the government of previous Philippine states), and is considered to have been the second president of the Philippines, after Emilio Aguinaldo (1897–1901). Quezon was a Spanish Filipino, with both his parents being Filipino mestizos.
Quezon was the first Senate president elected to the presidency, the first president elected through a national election, and the first incumbent to secure re-election (for a partial second term, later extended, due to amendments to the 1935 Constitution). For pushing Commonwealth Act No. 184 that established the National Language Institute and a consequent Philippine national language, Quezon has been tagged as his country's "Father of the National Language".

Special Traits of Filipinos
https://youtu.be/QyTPLyIU8_Q
1. Hospitality - This is one of the most popular qualities of Filipinos. Filipinos are welcoming, friendly and kind. Foreigners who have gone to the Philippines find themselves falling in love with the warm hospitality they are shown. It's a different kind of value system, which has existed for thousands of years.
2. Respectful - This is often observed—not just by younger people—but also by people of all ages.
Tumblr media
Children respect elders by saying "po" and "opo," which mean "yes," when answering their elders.
Children or young adults also show respect by putting their elders' hands on their foreheads.
Filipinos also show respect at work by making a bow to their employers
3. Strong Family Ties and Religions - Filipinos value their families so much that they tend to keep families intact through the generations.
4. Generosity and Helpfulness - Filipinos are generous people. Even when we have very little, we always share with those around us.
5. Strong Work Ethic - Filipinos are hardworking people to the point that we are willing to work almost the whole day just to feed our families. That's how Filipinos are.
6. Love and Caring - Filipinos are the sweetest and most loving people in the world.
7. Utang na Loob - A debt of gratitude (utang na loob) is a cultural Filipino trait of repaying special favors given to them, regardless of the moral outcome. It is considered an important "accommodative surface value," along with hiya (shame) and pakikisama (togetherness). It doesn't even end with the one-time repayment of debt; most of the time, Filipinos consider this debt as something they should repay over and over, even if it takes a lifetime.
8.  ”Bahala na” or “come what may” habit -  We could attribute this habit to faith, reasoning out that God will help us become successful. However, as the Christian saying goes, “faith without work is dead”. If we have some goals, then we need to work in order to achieve them.

Values  education in Schools
___________________________________________
“Education is an important element in the struggle to help our children and people rediscover their identity and thereby increase self-respect. Education is our passport to the future.” Malcolm X said.
Values education is ingrained in every tradition of the Filipino culture. Children are taught to respect the elders by saying “po” and “opo” and by putting their elders' hands on their foreheads. But then, as time passed by, these values are slowly fading away and we tend to become hypocrites. Values Education as a part of the school curriculum is the process by which values are formed in the learner under the guidance of the teacher and as he interacts with this environment. But it involves not just any kind of teaching-learning process.

Filipino Patriotism
_______________________
Tumblr media
Filipinos back then considered patriotism as a serious matter. In order to attain a better country, one must show their great patriotism and it means that you are willing to offer everything you have even your precious life for the sake of your own country.
Our patriotism is awakened every time the flag is unfurled and the anthem sung. It is far easier to imagine and feel patriotism whenever we have a struggle, a fight with an enemy, where hundreds of thousands of Filipinos die—such as against the Spaniards in 1896, against the Americans from 1898 to 1902, and against the Japanese from 1941 to 1945.
These days, although it is often said that patriotism is “more words than actions,” it does live still in the hearts and minds of many Filipinos, young and old alike.

Writing Activity (Comparison and Contrast)
Fullmetal Alchemist Vs. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
These two Fullmetal Alchemist anime have a large number of differences. For better understanding, the following abbreviations will be used:
FMAM = Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga)
FMA03 = Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 (Anime)
FMAB = Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (Anime)
As mentioned, two animes were done:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
There are few quite differences, actually. The “original”, or the “first one” is an entirely different storyline from the manga. This is because, the Manga was not done yet when it was being aired so the plot as well as the end of the anime were invented.
On the other hand, the second (FMAB) was done after the Manga ended, so it follows the original Manga much more. This allowed FMAB’s storyline to be more faithful to FMAM’s storyline because FMAB had a mostly-complete storyline to draw from FMAM.
Here are some major differences between the two:
Storyline
Even though both stories follow Edward and Alphonse, there’s a big difference between FMAO3 and FMAB & FMAM.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood adapts all 27 volumes of the manga. In FMAB & FMAM the main antagonist was a character referred to as "Father", a being of extraordinary power who is capable of performing transmutation at will, and without regard for equivalent exchange. His ultimate goal in FMAB & FMAM is to steal the power of what he refers to as “God” and become a being of infinite power and knowledge.
On the other hand, the first half of the FMA plot adapts the first seven volumes of the manga, but then the plots severely diverge from each other by the middle of the story, specifically around the time where Roy Mustang’s friend Maes Hughes is murdered by the homunculus Envy in disguise. Dante’s reveal as the ultimate antagonist who has been orchestrating all the events surrounding the Elric brothers. Dante merely wanted to survive, a basic instinct anyone can empathize.
The Homunculus
In FMA03, failing the attempt to perform a human transmutation would result to homunculus. They could only be killed by destroying their original body.
In FMAB & FMAM, the Homunculus were created by Father, with each one representing a different aspect of his personality (Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, and Pride; the seven deadly sins). Each Homunculus is also powered by a Philosopher’s Stone. Unlike FMA03’s Homunculus, FMAB & FMAM’s Homunculus are being powered by a Philosopher’s Stone that needs to be destroyed or its power drained (normally through forcing them to regenerate multiple times).
Another difference is the identity of the Homunculus themselves, with some Homunculus from FMAB & FMAM not appearing in FMA03 at all and others having their name changed.
Hohenheim
In FMA03, Hohenheim is just a normal human being who was originally Dante’s lover; however, he eventually left her due to no longer sharing her desire to have immortality at any cost. Like Dante, he created a Philosopher’s Stone and gained a long life by transferring his consciousness into another person’s body. His role in the anime is very minor, and he becomes trapped on the other side of the Gate after a confrontation with Dante that ended in failure.
In FMAB & FMAM, Hohenheim was a human Philosopher’s Stone with a seemingly infinite supply of power. Although he was originally a slave, he was granted his near-immortality by Father well before the events of the series took place. Hohenheim is more significant in FMAB & FMAM, facing off against Father at the end of the series. Unlike FMA03’s Hohenheim, he dies at the end of FMAB & FMAM after finally exhausting the power of his Philosopher’s Stone.
The Gate
The Gate is the largest major change in the series. In FMAB & FMAM, the Gate is the source of all alchemy and also seems to be a source of infinite knowledge. The Gate is also guarded by a being commonly referred to as Truth, and who is responsible for taking the required tolls from alchemists who perform human transmutation. Those who are capable of performing alchemy have their own gate, and if that gate should be removed (by sacrificing it to Truth), they will no longer be able to perform alchemy.
In FMA03, the Gate is still the source of alchemy, but it also serves as a portal between the world of Fullmetal Alchemist and Earth. Furthermore, the Gate derives its powers from the souls of those who have died on Earth and is what powers the transmutations performed by alchemists.
**~
These are just some major differences between the two anime. But as for me, I prefer FMA03 since it’s more dramatic and detailed because more depth is presented there and the plot moves at a steady nice pace that leaves you addicted. But then, FMA Brotherhood is the author’s original intent and has longer episodes than FMA so it’s up to you on how to watch them. I hope this helps, enjoy!

Typhoon Yolanda
6, 300 Filipino lives were lost and thousands were gone missing during the supertyphoon called Yolanda.
It was announced by PAG-ASA that its first landfall would be in Leyte yet people in the said area took the supertyphoon lightly. They didn't expect that typhoon Yolanda could be this strong and so, they didn't prepared for it well and didn't evacuate from their homes. Thus, the storm surge caused havoc in the area resulting to loss of lives and devastated homes.

Writing Activity (Descriptive Paragraph)
Mount Fuji
Tumblr media
People who love mountains should try to make a visit to Mount Fuji. It is the highest mountain in Japan which is about 3776 meters. It is an active volcano which most recently erupted in 1707. Its volcano has a symmetrical cone and has been worshipped as a sacred mountain, which most Japanese use in photographs and arts. Mount Fuji also known as Fujisan stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days. It is also easy to view from the train on a trip between Tokyo and Osaka. If you take the shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo in direction of Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, the mountain’s best view can be enjoyed from around Shin-Fuji Station on the right hand side of the train, about 40-45 minutes into the journey. However, the couds and poor visibility often block the view of Mount Fuji so you have to consider yourself lucky if you get a clearer view of the mountain. During colder seasons of the year, visibility tends to be better than in summer, and in the early morning and late evening hours than during the middle of the day. If you want to enjoy Mount Fuji at a more leisurely pace and from a nice natural surrounding, you should head to the Fuji Five Lake (Fujigoko) region at the northern foot of the mountain, or to Hakone, a nearby hot spring resort. Mount Fuji is officially open for climbing during July and August via several routes. This mountain attracts a large number of tourists annually. In fact, researches show that about two hundred thousand tourists visit this mountain every year; 30 percent of these tourists are international foreigners. You may take approximately three to eight hours to climb this mountain and approximately two to five hours to descend it.

Defibrillation
A. One sentence Logical Definition.
Defibrillation is a procedure in which an electronic device sends an electric shock to reset and restore the normal rhythm of the heart.
Source: https://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/defibrillation
B. Dictionary Definition
Pronunciation:
/ˌdiːfɪbrɪˈleɪʃ(ə)n/
NOUN
[mass noun]
Medicine
: The stopping of fibrillation of the heart by administering a controlled electric shock, to allow restoration of the normal rhythm.
Source: https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/defibrillation
C. Extended Definition
Defibrillation is a method used in emergency medicine to terminate ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia. Electrical shock is used to reset the electrical state of the heart so that it may beat to a rhythm controlled by its own natural pacemaker cells. It is not effective for asystole (complete cessation of cardiac activity, more commonly known as "flatline") and pulseless electrical activity (PEA).
The purpose of defibrillation of ventricular arrhythmias is to apply a controlled electrical shock to the heart, which leads to depolarization of the entire electrical conduction system of the heart. When the heart repolarizes, the normal electrical conduction may assert itself, in which case the ventricular arrhythmia is terminated.
Although, if not enough energy is used for defibrillation, the heart may not be completely depolarized, in which case the ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation may not be terminated. Also, if the heart itself is not getting enough oxygen or if there is an instability of the electrolytes in the cardiac cells, the ventricular arrhythmia may recur.

Love and Hatred
“Love is a big word for only four letters but so is hate.” -Xyz Hime
Love and hate are two opposite things but can lead to the same behaviour. Both are strong forceful emotion that can make a person go beyond their limits.
Love is simple yet so unclear. It is an intense feeling of affection. It can make you go through pain and sacrifices but you are more than willing to do it without any replacement. It involves total acceptance and forgiveness. Love is selfless, it’s like giving someone a gun and trusting them not to shoot you.
Hate, on the other hand, is often considered as evil. Hate is an intense feeling of dislike. It is often associated with anger as it has taken over people’s conscience. It is an awful emotion that burns in the soul of those who feel it.
There’s only a thin line between love and hate for they are both dangerous and powerful. Hate is a passion that is of equal interest to love. Both can drive people crazy. They can make someone do a lot of things even the ones we thought are impossible to achieve. Too much love and too much hatred can destroy a soul, break a person, wreck a heart and can pollute the mind.
Love can turn into hate when often neglected and rejected. Despite being selfess, when it is not reciprocated, it can turn into evil. The selflessness of it can turn into selfishness. On the other hand, hatred can turn into love if it experienced the feeling of being accepted and appreciated. Either way, both are all-consuming passion.
Both love and hatred can heal but at the same time, they can also kill. And a balance of both is needed to maintain the concinnity of the universe.

Cause and Effect
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished and most students do procrastinate a lot. They often complain how hard and many the given homeworks are to them but instead of doing it right away, they just rant and choose not to do it. Another reasons of procrastination are lack of self control and lack of motivation. If a person don’t feel like doing it, he won’t do it. Because to that person, the given task is unpleasant or boring.
As a result, they had to rush their homeworks late at night or in the last minute before the deadline just to finish it on time. But sometimes, it often leads to late or unfinished work. Procrastinating in school causes anxiety and stress which can lead to long term problems. In addition, procrastination can damage one’s career, mood and even potential.
In conclusion, people should do first the tasks that require immediate attention to avoid such troubles.

Clipped Narration
My brother came home late at night and he was drunk. He was furious that he tried to hurt our mother so I acted like a shield to protect her from him. I was so scared that I couldn’t do anything but to cry and cry. And now, I feel like I’m traumatized for what happened back then.
Paced Narration
It was a fine evening and everything seemed to go well. My mother and I were sound asleep as we were the only ones in our home. It wasn’t until a sound of shattering glasses was heard in the entire house, waking us up. I knew it was my brother who was once again drunk at the time. I heard him kicking the door, kicking everything that his feet could reach. We sat up on our bed as fear was written all over our face. Mother hurriedly went to open the door for my brother but it was too late since the door was already destroyed and he came in furiously. I followed her, expecting the worst to come and preparing for it. And just as what I expected, the worst thing happened. Mother asked my brother what was wrong and what was going on but he just shouted at her with his eyes filled with anger. He was about to lay his hand on mother when I interfered, spreading my arms and acting like a shield to protect her. Tears were falling in my eyes and I just stood there crying and muttering, begging my brother to stop. Mother then reached for a knife and tried to give it to him saying something like “Just kill me already if that’s what you want. Kill me with this if it can make you happy.” My cry just got louder and louder telling the both of them to stop. I asked mother to go back to our room and fortunately enough, she did what I said. I was left with my brother and I didn’t know what to say and what to do but to just cry nonstop until it became harder for me to breath. I saw guilt in his eyes and I began to begged him over and over again not to do that anymore because I was super scared to death like hell. He explained himself to me that he was just in a bad mood and he didn’t mean what he did. He then asked for forgiveness telling me that it won’t happen again because he doesn’t want to see me crying for I looked pathetic and pitiful. I smiled at him and accepted his apology because I don’t want any conflicts and disharmony.
I don’t want something bad to happen in our family. I don’t want them to hurt each other. And until now, every night, when my brother is drunk, the fear is still there. That’s why sometimes, I cry myself to sleep wishing and praying for peace, hoping that the same event won’t happen again.
