I've had this sitting around as a sketch for awhile, finally had time to finish it! Hoping to do more mythology illustration this year.

i have a disgusting amount of dreams that just involve me identifying birds like i come out of my dreams with lists of birds that i saw and i was like "i know who that is. Great Blue Heron. Cedar Waxwing"

I'm helping to raise a pair of Solomon Island ground boas for @stygianexotics, because they were refusing pinkies, and I have better/more consistent access to small fish than she does.
There are no photos that can explain how tiny these snakes are when they are born. This is the male next to a dime:
Tumblr media
He's 6 months old. They're so tiny.
My friend is attempting to establish a captive born and bred population of SIGBs (a goal she's been working on several years now), and part of that is establishing bloodlines that feed well upon birth. As it stands, they want to eat lizards, which is a problem when lizards that are small enough are expensive to buy or breed. She's been holding back snakes that readily feed on pinkie mice, or that switch off of fish easily. She sells the ones that don't make the cut genetically for breeding, and the ones that won't switch over usually are culled and used as part of the diet for their woma python, Clove (you may remember Clove from when she lived here!).
These two likely would have (and still might) ended up in the same boat, but I asked to give it a try; if I couldn't get them switched then they're no worse off. But if I can, then they can go out to new homes.
So far, they are eating guppies well. Actually, the girl is eating like a champ, the boy will eat if I put it in his mouth. Here she is looking for more fish:

Here's a lil fish bump in the boy's belly

And here's the two of them (male in 1st pic, female in 2nd pic)

I've been calling them Rocza and Loiosh. They are stained brown from the tannins in their bedding, but they should turn a very fetching white and black when they shed out next. I'm looking forward to it!
Also- if you're interested in learning more about Solomon island ground boas, I highly recommend talking to Stygian Exotics. Friendly and very knowledgeable!

I’ve seen the post about The Last Unicorn before, but I never really thought about it, but that quote you had from it? Specifically my vibe, I’m gonna have to get that book and read it and I’m going to do it because you shared the thing you liked with everyone else. so like, idk, thank you for sharing your joy so we can find it too?
I hope that it is as enchanting for you as it was me. He actually just recently got the rights for it back and has published more in the world, though I still like the original best. The dialogue, the descriptions... It's all super beautiful. Timeless, ethereal. Really lovely.

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
Reblog to increase sample size!

These two pictures are of a peahen (top photo from April 2019, and bird on the left in the bottom is the same bird in November 2019) that is currently going through a transformation from traditional hen plumage to cock plumage- which I suppose makes him a peacock now! The bird is 17 years old and while this sort of transformation is not unheard of (called “henopause” because it usually happens to older hens), it’s not usually such a stark difference. This bird went all out though!

Some updates on the weaving progress for my Vävstuga class!
- Towels: 4 out of 4 woven and off the loom, not finished. They need a narrow woven band for a hanging loop which I haven't warped up yet.
Tumblr media
- Blankets: 2 out of 2 woven, fringed, and fulled BABY. 👌 Completely done and they are so wonderfully squishy. The weaving took about half the time as getting the loom warped! I was kind of nervous about chucking them in the washing machine and dryer to fill them but I'm so glad I did.

- Tablecloths: Warped up on the table loom at home today, and about 90% of the first one of four is done. These are going pretty fast because of the plain weave. It's my first time using a temple (the wooden stretcher device that helps prevent draw-in from the weft) and ngl I am mad it took me this long to shell out for one.
I'm not 100% sure I love the color combo on this one. I would have liked the yellow stripes to pop a little more to compete with the blue, so I may change the colors up a bit on the other tablecloths.

Block weave damask squares: we are saving this 100% linen nightmare until the end because I don't want to deal with it right now
I'm aiming to get as much done of these as I possibly can before this coming Saturday. Not sure if I'll get the block weave done but I think I'll be able to get it warped and make at least one or two of the squares before I have to go to the live class.

the funniest dynamc between my boyfriend and i is the chef/baker divide runs so deep. experimentally my boyfriend is a genius with figuring out what flavor profiles will not just taste good together but also will be enjoyed by the specific audience he is cooking for. a recipe is not a guidebook so much as a suggestion and he will frankenstein ideas together to get exactly what he wants to happen. he also didnt know that sugar will not work properly if you dont mix it with the wet ingredients in banana bread and when i asked 'why didnt you do it in the order of the recipe' he said 'i didnt really think it mattered'. autistically i exploded his head in my mind
