Somewhere out there on a planet very far away is a civilization that has included our sun in a beloved constellation of some animal we couldn't dream up if we tried

The 12 Fucking Steps
Step 1: I’m fucked
Step 2: There might be a way out of this fucking mess
Step 3: Decide to level the fuck up
Step 4: Take a good hard look at how fucked up I am
Step 5: Tell someone else about all the fucked up stuff I’ve been through
Step 6: Prepare to stop being such a fuck up
Step 7: Try to stop acting so fucked up
Step 8: Make a list of everyone I fucked over
Step 9: Swallow my fucking pride and tell them I really fucked up, except when doing so would fuck them harder.
Step 10: Keep an eye on my fucked up thinking and behavior
Step 11: Chill the fuck out sometimes
Step 12: Help the next poor fucker that walks through the door

There is so much irony in the phrase “getting high”,
because really, all it ever does it take you lower
and lower,
until rock bottom knows your name.

"Some days our goal in trauma or addiction recovery is to just maintain.
Just keep our head above water.
Believe me when I tell you there is ZERO shame in just maintaining.
Just staying AWAY from an old, destructive pattern from our past.
Some days the name of the game is just harm REDUCTION.
It’s okay. We’re not going to make huge leaps of progress every day. We’re not SUPPOSED to. That’s not what recovery is about.
Recovery is about creative a life worth living one day at a time.
Some days we just don’t have the energy to do anything beyond treading water.
If that’s what today is, that’s what today is. Treading water beats drowning.
Most of us who are in recovery, got into recovery at a point where we WERE drowning.
I know. Days where we’re just maintaining can be frustrating. We want to get on with it. We want to make enough progress that recovery isn’t this massive weighty thing that we have to think about every second of every day.
You will get there. Really.
But if today’s a day where we just tread water? It’s okay.
Maintain. Keep your head above water. Use your imperfect skills and tools and philosophies to do what you can today.
All you can do is what you can do, today.
So do that.
It’s good enough. Really."
