Indieszero’s debut Sutte Hakkun translated ⊟ 

Sutte Hakkun was the first game by Indieszero, who would go on to make Retro Game Challenge, the Theatrhythm series, and Electroplankton, among plenty of other things. The game was originally a project made for the Nintendo Game Seminar, a game design class offered to college students by Nintendo intermittently through 2014.

And now the cartridge version (it was also released on Nintendo’s satellite service) has been translated by Raccoon Sam. I looked up copies on eBay, thinking I’d get a cartridge, install it to the Retro Freak, and patch it, but, uh, I will not be doing that. Cool piece of history though! Via @rhdntranslation.

The friendship between Ulala and Maya is still one of my favorite parts in EP. It had such a big development from Ulala looking after Maya all the time (cooking, cleaning, make up, clothes) to cover up her own inferiority complex (hinted at with her initial Persona Callisto who in myth was Artemis’ servant) to Ulala getting over her inferiority complex, getting rid of the bad men in her life and being more open with Maya (represented with her ultimate Persona Asteria and with her star arcana basically going from reverse to upwards over the course of the game). I also think that Maya got a big opportunity to look into Ulala’s inner life in EP and support her and subsequently was able to make her friendship with Ulala even stronger than before. Quite often in novels/manga/games the best friend of the female main character is often underdeveloped and barely has spotlight on her life thus it was nice to see that Ulala’s friendship with Maya got much spotlight and that she was also a strong written female character. I think that friendships even if they are as long as Maya’s and Ulala’s can have ups and downs. There can be stuff to discuss about and friendships aren’t always easy however if the friendship is genuine you will sit down and try to support each other and solve the problem. 

I think that Tadashi is quite good at realistically portraying female friendships in general:

In P1 I liked the bond between MakixChisato and MakixEriko (this could have easily ended as in a stereotypical love triangle in P1 and P2 with both craving for Naoya to notice them however Eriko is actually pretty relaxed with Naoya being so Maki focused in P1). 

In P2 I also thought that MayaxYukino being coworkers as well as friends was good as well.

Or that Yukino was so inspired by Saeko believing in her that she became a similar supportive figure to Anna in IS was also good.

It was good to see frequently see women being supportive of each other and also inspiring each other in P1 and P2.
