This was a stupid idea. No one went this far out of the way unless it meant they wanted to be left alone, much less in weather like this. God he hated the snow. But .... He had to see if he was right. He just had to. He'd read enough about her in Steve's journal.

"I'm sorry I'm here so late," Bucky breathed, icy blue hues tracing her face as if memorizing it as the wind whipped the collar of his jacket. It was something he did with everyone. Sincerity rang through his voice as he spoke, trying hard not to scare her seeing she was already on edge.

"Steve Rogers sent me.....or well, he didn't really send me. His journal did," he breathed. Up until now he'd made sure his black gloved hands were very visible.

Slowly, he moved one to his pocket and pulled it out, brandishing the journal he'd taken as his own after Steve was gone. Offering it to her, he wanted her to see it was Steve's. If they were as close as his best friend's entries had made it seem, she should recognize it. Or so he hoped.

"My name is James Barnes," he stated simply enough, worry clenching gently in his gut. What if he came all this way for nothing?

"He would have called me Bucky."

Christ…what now? In just a single heartbeat, the past several weeks seemed to vanish before her and in its stead came anxiousness and distrust. Mel had been hiding away in the middle of nowhere ever since the Avengers won that final battle against Thanos. Being alone out here in the forest was how she liked it ever since Tony snapped his fingers and brought everyone back into the world. The emotions had been too much for her to bear, and before it could consume the empath, she booked it out of upstate New York and halfway across the world, away from SHIELD, away from the Avengers, away from everything and everyone she had become so close to in the past several years.

After five years of grief and anguish, to face even more confusion from those who had turned to dust, anger at how everything had changed in the world, and her own pain of losing friends in the fight against Thanos and his creatures, all Mel wanted was some damn peace and quiet. And now someone was here at her hideout to disturb just that.

“Who are you?” It was the first thing out of her mouth as she turned on the porch light and opened the door, after peeking out one of the side windows and seeing there was only one man, and he had shown up unarmed. “How did you find me here?” She was not wanting to play games, and whoever was here did not seem to be willing to fight or hurt her. She could feel his presence while using her powers, and he was not outwardly hostile, but the brunette remained on alert in case she was wrong.
