My tumblr 1 year anniversary is coming up, should be around the 29th but I’ll be out of town (potentially no service) so I’m celebrating now!!🥳🥳🥳

The jumbled-up-origin-story is myself last summer 2022 on the way home from a road trip. I was watching some Octonauts Netflix downloads on my kindle fire, and wondered if there was any Octonauts content or a fandom. So I did some searching, got inspired n hyperfixated n such, and decided to go more in-depth searching so I downloaded tumblr :3 Was a big choice, I’ve never really done anything like that, but then found EVERYONE here and decided yknow I’ve got silly thoughts from my jumbled up brain, maybe I’ll share em and see if anyone’s interested :D made friends and mutuals and finally found a place where I truly felt like I belonged :] It was the tiniest choice to look up Octonauts content but it literally changed/saved my life 💙

Sincerely the best year it’s been in a while since I was young, thank you to everyone I’ve gotten to know and share silly octonauts stuff with and I think the next one’s gonna be even better yippee!

I have returned with another headcanon:

The Polar scouts, in terms of world history, are a very recent invention. They were probably introduced as a way to get young polar bear cubs to grow up in an environment that encourages equality and helping others. This links to another headcanon I have that there are stereotypes about different animals (this world isn’t perfect after all), in this case, Polar bears are expected to be violent and cruel, and enough live up to this stereotype that it persists. The programme was put in place by that Polar/Arctic sector of that United Nations style group, and whilst it has been very successful (crime rates and the amount of violent polar bears has dropped A LOT), there are still quite a few bad eggs.

I also headcanon that Barnacles and Bianca had an older brother from a previous litter of their mother’s who stayed around to help (he was probably a very good dude and likely a role model for Barnacles). But the older brother was one day killed by another polar bear and the two cubs witnessed it. This probably lead to Barnacles being so protective and might have encouraged him to leave the Arctic (returning only to visit his sister and later her cubs). Being in the Polar scouts probably also helped shaped Barnacles’ morals.

Oh heres some octonauts worldbuilding theories/ headcannons I have

There was certainly a nuclear war before the Octonauts was founded, considering the fact that Tweak and her father are green and glow in the dark, it seems her families genes were affected by nuclear radiation several generations ago.

Their technology is clearly more advanced than ours, and it makes me believe that there was a time (long before ours which will probably happen in the future) where their world used unrenewable resources, which caused environmental catastrophes (especially to the arctic animals) and caused a dip in the population, (which explains the 'emptiness' or lack of other anthros) forcing their society to use renewable resources, which although some countries are still using oils and plastics, society is gradually switching to sources more helpful to the environment

Could you tell us more about the Vegimal Reflection Theory? You're the first person I've heard talk about it. Who are reflections of who? I think the theory is pretty dang interesting.

Why thank you for asking it reminded me! (Again if someone has already said this out there in the octo-community just lemme know!^^) And mind you, my thing is theorizing/writing and reading wayyyy too far into things😎👍

So the Vegimal Reflection Theory is as follows:

The Vegimals in the Octonauts TV series, aside from Tunip, are completely new and not featured in the original books. This being that the show creators had to formulate new animal/veggie combos as well as give these new characters personalities, as Vegimals in the books were not often singled out(and there are far more in the books compared to the show). The Vegimals are more comedic relief, fun little side guys for laughs. While this is true, they need some character of their own, something that sets them apart from the main more serious Octonauts crew. Something to complement the shows intensity to better suit the young audience, ergo, reflection theory. This theory means that every vegimal is the opposite or reflection of one of the main characters, even tho the numbers don’t match up some can double:

1. Tunip : Shellington and Barnacles : Tunip is actually classified as one of the 8 Octonauts, though never really referred to as one except for merchandise. The biggest episode for Tunip’s complement to Shellington is the Immortal Jellyfish, being more in control and on top of things. Tunip is the “captain” of the vegimals, and we see Tunip bonding with Barnacles in above and beyond. Because Tunip is one of the Octonauts, the reflection theory is bended to more of a representation factor.

2. Tominnow : Kwazii : I’ve talked about this one before, as it was what originally tipped me off to this theory. We see Tominnow check on Kwazii’s room and drive the Gup B in A Very Vegimal Christmas, an episode I used for the first initial bases of evidence for all of em. I’ve talked about how I think Kwazii is FTM transgender, and how Tominnow being a reflection is MTF, it also works with the biology of minnows and the likeliness of vegimal siblings. Kwazii is also very brave, courageous, self confident, while Tominnow is more shy, quiet, a little clumsy. This pair along with Tunip is also in the Barracuda Episode.

3. Grouber : Peso : This is almost an inverted version of the last one. Grouber is the biggest and strongest vegimal, while Peso is smaller and shies away from attention or taking up space. Again partnering with the last one, Kwazii and Peso are often seen together as a good duo, the same with Grouber and Tominnow. Grouber helps Tominnow accomplish bigger tasks, and Tominnow is more of the brains and softer/caring side. Similarly to their complement.

4. Barrot : Tweak : This one is more obvious on a surface level, the Bunny’s opposite is their favorite snack, a carrot. There isn’t as much here as the others, but I suppose Barrot is known for being very speedy, while Tweak is more hardworking at a get-it-right-the-first-time pace. My main point is just the physical opposition, I think they are secret mortal enemies (animators I need a fight scene between these two to the song Flight of the Bumblebee lmao, the reason Barrot is speedy is that they must be ready when the fated day arrives)

5. Codish: Inkling and Dashi : Dashi was the hardest character to place, I’ve always thought Dashi needs more development and doesn’t have an overarching character trait to define her by, but Codish fit the most. Dashi is very much in control, on top of things, acting as the IT Officer and Photographer, one of the only people who knows how to operate the Octopod it seems. Inkling is similar but different, wise and knowledgeable of creatures and topics of his interest, but we saw in RoF he has no idea how to work the Octopod. Codish is a more scatterbrained or clumsy character, typically causes silly problems. This relates because being the reflection of two contrasting characters would cause a jumble of character traits, and Codish lacks the control, precision, general knowledge of the two. Also yes I see the color scheme similarities, I suppose that helps solidify it more with this being the weakest one I’d say lol.

Again, these are just my thoughts with the little veggie guys, I luv em very dearly ^^ To summarize, each Vegimal is an opposite/complement of 1-2 of the main Octonauts crew, as seen through their personalities across multiple episodes.

Final Octonauts Week Day 7 Yay!!

You know I had to make a lil somethin for the chair the myth the legend‼️‼️

The best hc/theory I have co-conspired, our leader Brendon💺💺💺 For those that don’t know here’s what we’ve got:

Inklings chair in the HQ is sentient, we’ve named him Brendon

Brendon can speak telepathically to whoever is seated, he has the voice of Nelson the Elephant from 64 Zoo Lane (also Keith Wickham like Inkling) and ofc knows the secrets of the universe

Brendon contributes to Inklings knowledge, and the magical technology (co-created by Inklings brother, Squirts dad, who passed in testing) used to build Brendon is what allows Inkling to live outside of water, hence symbiosis (as Brendon would not have come to existence without Inklings construction)

No one else sits on Brendon, they don’t know about the sentience (only Inkling does) but when they were young I hc Codish took a seat, learned the secrets of the universe, and got brain scrambled, why they’re a little more scatterbrained than the other vegimals👍(also in the vegimal reflection theory, Codish pairs with Inkling)

This whole thing started because the chair has a heat signature in one scene, and the chair has a sentient shadow in the Sea of Shade Book. It also hovers and that’s WEIRD HSJS

Oh Ho Ho what is the vegimal reflection theory u ask? :3 (if someone’s said this before pls let me know too!)

All the vegimals are like inverted versions of the main octonauts, I know the numbers don’t add up so some may double. This is based on character and highly around the A Very Vegimal Christmas episode. It is hinted at through Gup choice and which ones visit in the rooms looking for the crew, n how they are in the episode. I could go way into detail maybe after octo-week, but Tominnow is the complement of Kwazii:

Kwazii is braver, daring, more confident, stands out, sure of himself, more loud I guess too

Tominnow is smaller, quieter, more clumsy and more gentle

It has been hinted that Kwazii could be trans by meomi, and I think it is a common theory in our lovely community. This further supports because if Tominnow is an opposite, Kwazii being ftm and Tominnow being mtf makes sense👍

All vegimals that we know of are referred to as he, having only one she (that we know for sure) doesn’t rly make sense ig if all vegimals are the same just varying veggies and animal combos(the books).

I hc Tominnow prefers Kwazii too, I think they would totally be pirate buds and he would teach her the swashbuckling ways >:3 Also had a lil hc that Tominnow liked the Gup B so much Tweak designed a special (much smaller) version based on a Dwarf Lantern Shark :3

Saw you needed octonauts world headcanons so here’s some I’ve got

1. I think there are probably parallel cities and countries to our world since I’m pretty sure Tweak’s dad lives in Florida? So they have at least a US? Anyway the locations of their major cities and counties are all the same. Most animals live in places close to or in their natural habitat, but cities like London or New York probably have animals from all over the place mingling (but to a certain level of logic like you’re less likely to see a polar bear or reindeer living in South America or something). Cities probably also have slightly different designs to accommodate for the variety of species living in them

2. The world population is split between anthro and non-anthro animals, because the octonauts are clearly anthro but the animals they rescue aren’t. There used to be a lot of conflict between the two groups but now most places don’t care and are designed to accommodate both kinds of animals (Like Tweak and Sandy are friends)

3. Whether or not predation of other animals (especially the non-anthro) is okay is a heated debate in their society

4. It is possible for some non-anthro animals (most likely mammals) to learn to walk and use their paws (hands?) like anthro’s, but it’s very difficult (and vice versa if an anthro wants to learn to be more like a non-anthro)

5. There is a United Nations equivalent who are tasked with keeping peace between species. They have a representative for each major species of each biome, with groups such as rainforest or polar regions working as groups or having one collective vote on large scale issues (they are also the ones who fund the octonauts)

6. Like all things, the octonauts probably have a few haters and enemies (because even in this world there are bad people) and they sometimes have to watch their backs when at ports to resupply (I can see them getting into conflict with people who overfish like in that one fic or people who pollute the ocean or oil rig people)

7. Their world is just as, if not more technologically advanced in some areas than ours (I mean, they manage to hide whole helmets in small collars!)

8. Their world likely isn’t post apocalyptic. Instead, humans never existed and many animals evolved in almost identical ways to fill that niche

9. Most of, if not all, the world share a collective language (Called the universal wild language or something) that makes cross-species communication easier. Each genus likely shares a language (with species having slightly different versions (for example: wolves and dogs will slightly different pronunciations or slang, but sound very similar when compared to a fox)), but all animals are taught the universal language.

10. Most animals have extended lifespans that are closer in length to humans

11. Some objects we use that usually have simple handles will have grips or whole shaped loops for paws to make holding them easier

12. Coat colour possibility and variations are far greater than in our world (I mean, Tweak’s GREEN)
