some small things about the mansion scene in wednesday that are very important to me

1: enid says "this is how the best friend in every horror film dies" which implies enid knows (or thinks) that wednesday is the main character

2: wednesday puts her arm in front of enid protectively to put herself in-between enid and the monster

3: the snood kinda saves Wednesdays life which is very touching

4: enid cares more about the matching snoods (symbol of affection) than her own life

5: wednesday asks if enid is okay which is like not a lot for most people but for wednesday she might as well have kissed her on the lips and proposed right there

As someone who loves sharks my ears pricked up every time they were mentioned in Wednesday and wierdly enough i think if you read into it as much as me theres some interesting stuff going on.

When wednesday mentions sharks, she is using them as an example of a very dangerous animal, talking about swimming with sharks or sharks "circling" which feed into the common western myth that sharks are evil monster things.

this isn't true at all, almost all sharks are very safe and the few that are dangerous are much less dangerous than many other wild animals (bears, hippos, etc). This (to me) shows how Wednesday's love of macabre and deadly things often leads to a negative outlook on the world, falsely believing that sharks are out to get her.

When gomez talks about sharks he says "they found you as cold-blooded as I do", still leaning into the same macabre and deadly aspect, but putting a positive, kind spin on it, as we would expect from gomez.

When Enid mentions sharks, she's talking about the hockey team the san jose sharks, who, for anyone who doesn't follow hockey, are the worst. That's not an exaggeration they currently have the least points of any team in the nhl. I think the reason that it's mentioned she is a lifelong sharks fan (besides the fact hockey is for cool people in america and enid lives in California) is that it shows unwavering loyalty to a lost cause. Her devotion to the team which is the worst.

To wednesday enid is a shark, dangerous, deadly, scary (because she doesn't know how to be affectionate).

To enid, wednesday is a shark, awful, maybe even the worst, but worth devoting your life to if you love it.

I'd just like to add that the san jose sharks are awesome and do all sorts of community events like pride nights, anti bullying talks at schools, environmental awareness+litter picking drives and they're really awesome in all ways other than being good at the sport they play.

y’all… let’s talk about the gay tension in this scene PLEASE. wednesday letting enid grab her arm and drag her LITERALLY wherever tf she wanted, enid staring at wednesday’s lips with that fucking oh-my-god-i’m-so-attracted-to-you lesbian ass look, both of them about to fucking STEP ON EACH OTHER WITH HOW CLOSE THEY’RE WALKING-

also it makes me so soft to think about even though enid was celebrating, she immediately realized wednesday’s absence and went to find her. there’s something so gay about that, like. she just wants to be with her pretty roomie all the time, so what if she’s planning their wedding in her head?? so WHAT if all she can do is stare like 0_0 at her lips and think about kissing the mess out of her??? she literally can’t help it. not her fault she’s a raging queer.

and then there’s this…

i feel like i’m intruding-

wednesday isn’t even subtle, she wants to kiss. so bad. and those EYES? my gOD SHE’S ACTUALLY IN LOVE. AND THE WAY SHE WATCHES HER LEAVE?? WENS YOU’RE A HOMO, BABE. A 🗣️HOMO. also her saying that she’ll think about hanging out with enid and her friends because she’s fucking SOFT for enid and she’s willing to try uncomfortable things for her and she doesn’t want to hurt her feelings by saying no because she CARES. WEDNESDAY ADDAMS CARES ABOUT ENID SINCLAIR AND I WON’T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. TRY AND MAKE ME.

ugh. they’re both disasters, and it makes me a disaster, and i just want to protect them forever and ever and ever.

The Hug™️ is so interesting from Enid's perspective because she's been incredibly careful not to step over Wednesday's boundaries (like she isn't a pushover she gives wednesday snark but) enid never touches her when she doesn't want or makes her talk about her feelings, she's defending her to everyone and even coming back after life threatening danger. Then, just before her closest friend leaves school forever (with no way of getting in contact), enid goes for a hug which wednesday accidentally flinches out of.

So Enid thinks she's never gonna see or hear from wednesday ever again but still is immediately ready to throw down her life (before she even knows she can wolf out) for her upon hearing shes in danger and she almost DIES fighting a murder creature for wednesdays sake.

Finally, after everything is over she sees Wednesday and immediately hugs her because she literally cant stop herself.

But then there's the awful second where enid pulls back and like looks guilty because even after the emotional turmoil of thinking Wednesday had tried to kill her and then thinking Wednesday was gone forever then that wednesday was dead and even after she laid down her life to protect Wednesday shes still worried about overstepping boundaries because she cares so fucking deeply

Like if Wednesday didn't like her and hug her back this would have been the most tragic scene of television of all time ever because enid would literally do anything for her.

this is one of my favorite scenes, particularly because of the subtleties. it’s obvious by wednesday’s body language (look at the softness in her eyes, the way she almost blinks, her conflicted look) that she’s not put off by enid’s attempt to hug her. rather, she steps back merely out of reflex, even hesitating a little (she nearly jerks forward) like she wants to change her mind. and then there’s the moment immediately afterward, where she takes a very intentional step into enid’s space. it’s so clear that she wants to accept enid’s hug, but she doesn’t know how, she isn’t used to it, and she sure as hell isn’t about to ask for it. typical, stubborn wednesday, not knowing how to receive enid’s blatant affection. the attention to detail here is just so perfect, and it’s such a wonderfully done scene that foreshadows the pivotal moment where wednesday finally lets down her walls enough to fall into enid.
