Astro-Cartography

I would like to point out, I’m not pro on this (yet). I’ve been looking into Astro cartography for a couple months and here’s what I’ve picked up on.

A Astro-cartography chart/graph is basically a map that explains, location wise, where and how you’ll be fulfilled or maybe.. not so much. If there was ever a state or country you wanted to travel to, there’s a way to determine what may occur/manifest while in that area.

•You can find out your personal cartography graph with the Astro.com website. So if you’re into traveling or you have a ton of Jupiter aspects lol, this may be something you can consider looking into.

• The line doesn’t have to exactly be crossing a region. Places that are 200 feet away are influenced to!

• Check what these planets and placements look like for you. If you have heavy water energy on your moon so like a water moon and in a water house, if you move to a region that’s on your moon line, you may find yourself more emotionally sensitive in that area.

Here are some observations..

☁️Jupiter/MC line is definitely a jackpot. You may feel very optimistic and as if you belong. You may be introduced to different cultures. You may learning more about your career field.

☁️IC crossings can indicate a region that may feel like home. Even if it’s further away from your actual birthplace. This region can have such a nostalgic feeling. This can indicate either triggering experiences or liberating experiences. Not the best place to expect financial or material success. May be very hard on your mental well-being.

☁️Venus/MC crossings can indicate great success financially. This is a great region to network. You may also find a long term partnership. If mc is touching your Venus, this can indicate a lot of recognition. This region may be very aesthetically pleasing to you. You may feel very appreciated here. You may feel very seen here.

☁️Pluto/Asc crossings can indicate have a lot of influence on your environment. If you were to start a business, you can expect to receive lots of feedback. Whether it’s good or ‘bad’ depends on what’s aspecting around Pluto for you and your chart.

☁️Mercury crossings can indicate a region where you analyze and overthink your situation. You may find yourself questioning almost everything, including what you’re doing in life. You may want to change things out of confusion.

A faster way to start learning a language

When I started self-learning languages, I could never find a good answer to the question: What words should I learn first? If you use Duolingo, they’ll start by teaching you words like “apple”, which don’t seem very useful.

After spending a lot of time practicing writing and talking, I came to realize two things: 1) It really makes a huge difference when you know the X most useful words vs. some set of X words and 2) you can actually say a surprising amount, and express yourself surprisingly flexibly, with just 300 basic words. Here’s a demonstration of what you can say with 300 words. It’s certainly not enough to speak very fluidly, but learning these 300 words first gets you off to a running start.

If you use a spaced repetition system like Memrise (which is free), it’s not hard to learn 300 words. Memrise predicts that learning the 300 words in Spanish will take you 6 hours of work. (You can make yourself a course with any list of words that you want to memorize.)

Here is the list of 300 words. They’re not hard-and-fast rules; feel free to adapt the method based on what works for you. In addition to learning vocabulary, it’s important to find a good grammar guide for your language.

How to go to sleep in french 🇫🇷

In english, you say “I’m going to sleep”.

In french we say:

Je vais me coucher = I’m going to go rest

- This one is the most commonly used to say we’re going to sleep

Je vais faire dodo = I’m going to do sleep (literal translation).

- It’s generally used when saying this to friends for example, or to children

Je vais aller dormir = I’m going to go sleeping

I’ve seen posts about French songs and French Disney songs, but there are also lots of French covers of famous songs that are originally sung in English, and I don’t think they’ve been mentioned on tumblr before (within the langblr community at least), so here’s a not-so-comprehensive list I compiled:

I wrote the English titles instead of the French ones so that you can easily recognize the songs. Each of these artists has many more French covers so be sure to check out their channels.

Also, I made a PLAYLIST right here where I put all the covers I found (the ones that sounded reasonable at least) and I’ll keep adding to it. Or you could just search Youtube for “french cover songs” or “cover français” and you’ll get a whole bunch of songs and playlists as well. Enjoy ;)

The seasons are changing and I can just feel the flu encroaching! Here are some vocab and expressions regarding sickness, so if you feel a cold coming on, you will be able to express it in French.

French Learning App Recommendation!

Hi everyone, I haven’t been active here for the last month. This is because I haven’t been active in language learning in my real life due to personal reasons. But I came back with an amazing app recommendation!

The app’s name is Learn French with Le Monde. As far as I know Le Monde is a famous newspaper in France. We use it in class to review news with our teacher. The app has a one week free trial. You get access to the classes daily after your free trial. I haven’t bought the premium version yet. But I’m planning to after my trial ends.

I think you need to know basic A1 level French in order to use it more efficiently. In the app you listen a video and answer questions according to the video. You can choose the vocabulary you don’t know and they’ll show you the meanings in a sentence with Fr/Ca pronunciation. It also ends with a cultural movie/song/tv series reference that is commonly known in France.

The app also has a page in the correction page where they’ll you about the historical figures and other cultural stuff you may not know but has appeared in the lesson. Also a bonus: It is available in both English and French. But I think if your phone language is French the app will appear in French. I personally think it is very useful for listening and grammar and also makes you review everything!

It has a section where you can choose Spicy (includes adult stuff but not like +18 😅 this is language learning app) Non spicy (kid friendly) version.

I say give it a chance! This is definitely not an ad since I only have like a hundred followers and don’t know anyone from Le Monde. I personally love and use the app and I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn French.

Hi! I’m on vacation so I can finally relax (even though I only have till the end of the week) so here you go. Phrases/words/expressions you’ll most likely have to use quite often! Next parts will come soon :)

À propos de (qqn/qch) = about, in regard to, concerning, regarding

-> J’ai quelque chose à te dire à propos de tes parents. (I have something to tell you about your parents.)

-> Vous avez reçu un mail. Je crois que c’est à propos de votre stage. (You received an email. I think it’s about your internship.)

-> À ce propos = on this subject

my fav french youtubers

hey all! sorry it’s been awhile since i’ve been on my blog but i’m back and better than ever! so here’s a quick post on my favourite french youtubers (especially from the fashion side of youtube, because that’s what I tend to watch)

i love her videos, most of them are quite “old youtube” sit down videos (e.g hauls, lists) because that’s what I like to watch, but she also uploads vlogs from time to time. as i am absolutely obsessed with french (especially parisian, where she is based!) style, she is an obvious fav.

although i can’t say i am always a super fan of her fashion style, her videos are really well made, and i love the style of them. similarly to ladoucemelodie, she makes a combination of sit down videos and vlog videos, and has a sneaker collection to die for!!

Kenza Sadoun-el Glaoui (La Revue de Kenza)

kenza originally began her blog (which is also great!) in 2008, and then expanded into youtube after that. the majority of her videos nowadays are vlogs but she occasionally does more sit down type videos like this GRWM. her instagram is also a good time, especially her second account dedicated to her photography fails (@kenzasmgross)!!

Dans Mes Binocles

the first non fashion channel! although no longer uploading, the channel has a fair amount of videos, so you won’t get bored quickly. i like the style of his videos, and also the fact that he is american, and to me sounds pretty fluent in french - the dream! his videos are on everything from travelling, to speaking and learning the french language.

Vogue Paris

although not strictly a youtuber, i do adore the vogue paris youtube channel (just as i adore british vogue)! the quality of the videos is always very high, as you would expect from this type of publication, and always tends to have english captions that you can turn off and on as you need!

little tips i have on how to read hangeul a bit easier

***heyyyyy, babycakes!!! what`s popping? wassup? how have you been? i hope you’ve been well and good and that everything is all g with you. today i have written up a post of like some little tips i have for some more,,, advanced(?) or ”farther along” Korean learners. maybe even for a bit more intermediate Korean beginners??? IDK how to explain it. maybe this is a post for everybody who knows? anyways, what I mean is that these are some things I noticed about reading hangeul and little things to keep in mind while reading hangeul. I hope this helps a couple of people and that it makes sense. so if you’re interested in know some tips I have regarding reading hangeul, keep reading~~~****

…After you have started learning Korean for a while, try not to rely on romanization. Romanization will always be a clutch preventing you from actually learning how to read the language, is the ENGLISH version of Korean words, aren’t always accurate and or provided, my dude. Use them to learn but you gotta learn how to read the letters on their own, my g. it helps in the long run. but they are good for when you have absolutely no idea how to pronounce a word and help a lot in the beginning but for my OG learners or ones who have been using them for a while, ditch the romanization and try reading it alone. Korean is tough but you are tougher~~~

Whenever people tell you the lie that “one letter has one sound” don’t believe them. do not! It’s not true. Korean isn’t as simple as that (unfortunately ) but there are ways to move around it. with general diligence, observation and time, you will be able to read and speak Korean like a pro. I believe in you~

외,왜,웨 all sound the same. Except for tiny tiny differences in pronunciation, they sound the same. at least in the beginning lol

애 and 에 sound the same too, except for a tiny, tiny difference that only natives and long-time Korean learners. Or for my special cupcakes out there who hear it the first time they do, y'all are OGs.

의 sounds like 예 or 에 or even 이 rather than the way it’s romanized whenever it’s being said out loud. Ex: 너의 sounds like 너에 in real life convos but like 너예 in some songs whenever it’s drawn out. Take your pick lol.

In Korean names, it sounds like 이. Ex: 태희 sounds more like 태히 with the 이 more drawn out.

A lot of the time, ㅎ is lowkey silent. Like whenever it’s at the beginning of a word, you do pronounce it properly like in 흘리다 and 형 but whenever it’s in the middle of a word or the end, you barely say it but it’s there. It’s just really really weak. Ex: 태형 sounds like 태영 and 시험 sounds like 시엄 but not as on the nail. It’s very subtle and weak.

I just realized this now, but looking back,,, other than when you pronounce really aspirated letters like ㅋ,ㅌ,ㅊ and ㅍ,,, Korean isn’t that much of a breathy language. you don’t put very much air into the words and don’t even pronounce  ㅎ  whenever it’s in a word…. weird but cool lol. 

Whenever ㅎ is the final of a word, it makes the next one it’s more aspirated counterpart and lowkey peaces out. Next, to ㅎ, ㄱ becomes ㅋ. Like in 이렇게 it sounds like 이러케. Words like 이렇게 and 그렇게 are super rare so don’t worry about it too much. It just helps whenever you encounter words like this.

Just as a reminder, ㅇ at the beginning of a syllable is silent and as a “final” it sounds like “ng” in any “ing” verb. When you see stuff like 잉 only the 이 is pronounced and in 잉 the ㅇ at the start is silent and the ㅇ at the bottom is an ng.

I call it the “slide/transfer”. Whenever there is a final in a Korean word that is next to a vowel that has ㅇ Ex: 이, 아 etc you kind of pronounce it with the vowel. Ex: 믿어 sounds like 미더 and like 일어나다 sounds like 이러나다, get it? Just think of it as a smooth transition.

ㅅ is a really soft consonant. Like you have to pronounce it in a very soft way. Like the s is soap. ㅆ sounds like the “s” in sea. There’s a lot more tension

To pronounce ㄹ  properly you must must must must roll your tongue. It’ll help. Whenever you say it, try to make your tongue touch the roof of your tongue really lightly. It’ll go a long way

ㄴ and ㄹ are super freaking weird whenever they’re together- it becomes a double l. Take the word 신랑 rather than strongly sounding like 신 and 랑 it sounds like 실랑. And 큰 일 났다. it sounds like 큰 일랐다.  It’s because the way the mouth moves to say n and r in Korean is very very similar so whenever the two are beside each other, the tongue wouldn’t have enough time to pronounce it properly so Koreans just say ㄹㄹ rather than ㄴㄹ.

Whenever ㄹ is the final of a word and another ㄹ is beside it, it becomes a double l. Ex: 롤링 is lolling rather than rol -ring.

Double consonants at the end of the word are quite… they’re weird but they’re harmless once you know how to read them. Rule #1: in words with double consonants that are the same, just transfer/slide the last consonant to the next vowel and you’ll be all g. Ex: 밖. If it’s next to idk 에 (like it usually will be ngl) just make it 박게 or even 박께. It makes it easier on your tongue and mind lol.

Whenever there are 2 different consonants in a double consonant and it’s BY ITSELF, no grammar particle, no nothing pronounce only the SECOND consonant in the double consonant. Only.  Ex: 닭 is 닥 not dalk or 닭. Same with 삶. Pronounce it 삼 and only 삼.

K but the game changes when it comes to whenever it is next to something. Say the word with a double consonant happens to be a verb being conjugated. Say 닮다 is our word and is in present tense so it looks like 닮아요. You would pronounce it as 달마요. The last consonant in the double consonant is always the one that replaces ㅇ, okay? there are a ton of other rules so check out this thread that just talks about them in much greater detail and in a much clearer way lol.

Whenever ㅌ is at the end of a word it and the next syllable next to it is 이becomes ㅊ. Like 끝이 [kkeut-i but is pronounced 끄치]

Note: Learning a new language requires a lot of dedication, more than you actually think! Especially if you’re learning multiple languages at the same time. It isn’t impossible, but it will take time. And by time I mean months and/or years! So please, be patient. Take your time. Don’t rush. Keep in mind that you will mess up and that’s okay. Practice as much as you can. Practice out loud. Talk to yourself if you can. It doesn’t matter if people think you’re crazy. They won’t be thinking the same when you become a polyglot, so don’t mind them. This is for you and your future.
