“I don’t have a ton of grill experience but I wanted to get a portable-style one that would fit nicely on the balcony of my apartment. I’ve heard great things of the Weber brand and was originally looking at the Q100, but decided to splurge and go for the Q220 instead. What a great choice it was!
Setup was super easy, you have to assemble a few pieces but it’s very easy to do (just attaching the handle, lid and thermometer). You will notice at this point though how heavy this grill is, but that’s a good thing, the build quality is fantastic…”
The Weber 566002 Q 220 Gas Grill just might be one of the best BBQ grills around, and it’s got the reviews to prove it. One of the most common positive comments about the grill was its high-flame capacity, with one customer saying that they were able to get up to 400 degrees even in cold weather, while another said that they were satisfied with how quick it took for the grill to reach cooking temperature. Other customers also gave out positive comments on the assembly and the size of the grill, saying that it the best BBQ grill for small and compact areas.
With a score of 4.5 out of 5 on the official Amazon ratings scale, the Weber 566002 Q 220 Gas Grill proved to be another contender for the best BBQ grills Weber has produced do far, in terms of grilling power, footprint, cooking safety and ease of use. This grill is a sure-fire choice for any outdoor cooking expedition, assuring less pack-up trouble and more snacks and meals for your, your family and friends! However, due to its price, we felt that the Weber 386002 Q 100 was a more suitable choice for our Top Pick.

Weber 57060001 Q3200 Liquid Propane Grill Review
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Weber 57060001 Q3200 Liquid Propane Grill Review
by James Huntley | Updated 03/10/20
The Weber Q320 is a portable, stand alone gas grill. It has two burners made of stainless steel and  21,700 BTU per hour. The cooking surface has a total of 462 sq. inches of sizzling cooking surface that will accommodate 2 whole chickens, 36 hot dogs or 18 hamburgers at a time. The Weber gas grill has a 70 sq. inch warming rack to keep it all warm and toasty until meal time. The ignition is state of the art, push button, electronic ignition and the unit also has 2 folding work tables and tool hooks and infinite control burner valves.
The gas grill is powered by a standard 20 pound propane tank that is sold separately. The cart is stationary, but can be moved easily. The gas grill is cast aluminum, and is equipped with a removable catch pan, centered thermometer and weather resistant lid handles.
As in the case with most Propane Gas Grills, Amazon.com has the best price on the Weber Q 320.
One of the top fan favorites of this Weber is the functional design of the gas grill and sturdiness of the cart. The grill has a very nice safety feature for the tank not always found in a gas grill. The propane tank is locked in place to prevent shifting and the cart is equipped with a counter weight to prevent the gas grill from tipping. Lighting the burners is easier than ever before with the AAA battery powered ignition. The outer burner ignites the center burner automatically. Another feature that is tops with owners of the gas grill is its ease to assemble and can be completed by one person, although a second person just makes it easier. Those that upgraded the Q300 with the Q320 found the grill cover fit the newer model just fine.
. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
There was not much consumers did not like about the Weber Q320 gas grill. Some of the users found the lid handles suffered failure after a short time and getting replacements turned into a time consuming task. Several of the consumers who purchased the gas grill found the ignition switch did not last long and found it cumbersome to replace. Even though the gas grill is fairly easy to assemble, some found the drip pan a bit difficult to slide into place.
The Weber Q320 is an all in one gas grill that fits the needs for a medium size gathering, about a dozen people maximum. The enamel coated cast iron cooking grate cooks food evenly no matter where on the grill the food is placed. The grill is easy to clean, making clean up a snap. The quality and workmanship that has gone into the grill makes it a favorite of grillers of all levels. The locking propane tank is a much appreciated safety feature that is not found on many other gas grills. The second burning tube allows the grill to heat up faster, and cooks at an even 400 degrees even in cold weather, making it possible to enjoy year around cookouts and barbeques

“This is the biggest bbq on our list of the top charcoal grills. It has over 800 square inches of cooking surface and can easily cook for up to 30 people at once!”
Comparing The 5 Best Charcoal Grills
It’s generally accepted that charcoal grillers and natural gas grillers are going to agree to disagree on which fuel method produces the best bbq. The purist of barbecue masters will argue that you don’t get the same flavor from natural gas grills compared to a high quality charcoal grill. At the same time, grilling with gas gives you excellent temperature control, less ash & debris and a high quality heat source.
Personally, I like both depending on what I’m going to be grilling. There are about as many charcoal grill & bbq options as there are options for natural & propane barbecues.
I tested about 10 grills that use only charcoal and narrowed it down to these five that had the best features and performance. There’s a ton of charcoal bbq’s on the market, in all price points. The one’s I chose range from very affordable grills to slightly more expensive. You should find a grill here for every budget and cooking style.

TOP PICK: Weber 14402001 Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill
While the Weber Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill looks like a blast from the past, it is full of modern flair and integrity. This 22-inch diameter barbecue features a porcelain-enameled bowl, which lends well to the vintage look of this barbecue. You’ll have lots of room to cook up some burgers and steaks on the cooking grate that measures over 360 square inches.
What’s great about this one, besides its excellent design, is the one-touch cleaning system that allows you to clean the entire thing without lifting a finger. There is a high-capacity ash catcher that stops your the bbq from leaving a mess behind after it has been cleaned. Just remove the tray, and you are on your way to your next meal clean and ready to go.
The aluminum damper means you’ll stay safe from flame and heat when you adjust your settings, and the glass-reinforced nylon handles make it easy to move wherever the party is happening. When put together, the unit measures about 38 inches by 27 inches by 22 inches. It’s an ideal size for backyard barbecues, events, parties, and you could even take the legs off it and throw it in the camper for a weekend away.

3. Char-Broil TRU-Infrared Kettleman Charcoal Grill
Char-Broil has deemed this unit the ultimate backyard grilling machine. But does it stand up to that reputation? It offers a 360 square inch cooking surface – which seems to be pretty standard across the board when it comes to backyard grills that use charcoal. It looks great and has a sleek black design that would look good in any backyard or on any patio.
The domed hood is porcelain-coated to protect it from the elements, so you don’t need to worry about leaving this it outside for a few days at a time. It’s always best to have a cover, but this is a sturdy bbq that can handle some nights in the rain. The hinged lid makes it easy to check on your food as it’s cooking without feeling like you have to find somewhere to rest the cover, like some other models on the market.
It comes with a 10-year limited warranty and the vents on the lid help to keep the heat in and cold out. Char-Broil makes sure your meal turns out great each and every time you fire it up. It is extremely easy to move and is small enough to store in a garage or basement when not in use during the colder weather.
While this is a charcoal grill, Char-Broil has worked to improve the way it functions, and you’ll find you won’t need as much charcoal compared to other similar style barbecues. They use infrared technology to help the grates heat up faster and retain more heat so that you don’t have to keep worrying about the temperature inside the unit. The Good Stuff

The So-So
Screws tend to be poor quality and should be replaced with metal screws when they start to show signs of wear
4. Char-Griller Akorn Jr. Kamado Kooker Charcoal Grill
This impressive looking bbq from Char-Griller will remind you of a smoker with its unique shape and design. It features about 150 square inches of cooking surface, which is nearly half of the cooking surface of the other grills we’ve looked at; still though, it’s an excellent choice for taking trips to the park, going camping, or even using on your small apartment patio where traditional bbqs won’t fit.
The unique style of grill, known as a Kamado, is designed that way to promote even cooking and produce greater flavor in the food you want to enjoy. It’s easy to clean and easy to use, and the dual air-flow dampers mean you have greater control over your cooking process so you can get those steaks just right. The unique design also means you have to use less charcoal to get the same result you might get from a much larger and less portable unit.
The placement of the charcoal at the bottom of the unit means that there you will be able to do indirect-heat cooking, and if you use it correctly, you could smoke meats with ease. Of course, tending to the charcoal for hours could prove tedious, but if you were ambitious enough, it could be done. It does have recommended damper settings for smoking, but at very low temperatures. If you were going to attempt this, you’d want to be sure to read the instructions first.
The easy to grip handles that make moving it a breeze. Throw it in the back of your pickup truck and take it to the game on Sunday afternoon. The pebbled ceramic brings back lots of memories of cooking on older style bbq’s with grandparents at the lake. The bright red color, as well as the other colors that are available, lend well to the pebbled ceramic look and makes you feel like you are king of the charcoal. If you are looking for a smaller size charcoal bbq with smoking potential, this is the bbq for you.
The Good Stuff
Great design
Easy to use
Portable and designed to be on the move
Also great for backyard barbeques
Dual damper settings for multiple cooking options
Kamado style for unique cooking benefits
The So-So
Read instructions carefully before attempting to smoke meats to ensure temperature is set properly
Smaller size cooking surface than comparable bbq’s
Ceramic will break if dropped
5. Dyna-Glo DGN576SNC-D Dual Zone Premium Charcoal Grill
This is the biggest bbq on our list of the best charcoal grills. It has over 800 square inches of cooking surface and can easily cook for up to 30 people at once! That’s a whole lot of meat and vegetables grilling on the barbeque!
This large grill is brought to you by Dyna-Glo, and they are known for their superior attention to detail and quality. The charcoal basket adjustment trays allow you to control the amount of heat and change up your cooking options so that you can bring more delicious meals to the table to share with family and friends.
The lid and body are made from stainless steel, and this looks like a more traditional grill that you would see in stores these days. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t provide robust cooking power like some of the vintage units on this list. No sir, this is an excellent option for anyone who loves charcoal cooking, especially for large crowds.
There is an adjustable smoke stack so you can take your charcoal grilling to the next level and smoke your own meat. There’s no reason to ever turn on your range or oven again. With the sizeable high-capacity ash catcher, you can remove any debris and old charcoal with ease. What’s better than a great performing grill? A great performing grill that is easy to clean.
Dyna-Glo has put out a great product here, but there are a few downfalls. The first is that it is quite large and weighs over 120 pounds. That means once you put it in your backyard or on your patio, it’s likely going to stay there for a long time. Every other unit we’ve looked at is portable – at least in theory – but this big guy is meant to stand the test of time in one place. Moving it requires two people. The other downfall of this one is that if you aren’t feeding 20 or 30 people on a regular basis, or smoking your own meats, this isn’t a good option for you. It’s a lot of time and energy wasted to cook up a couple of hamburgers on a Friday night for you and your family. Otherwise, this is a performance powerhouse bbq that deserves a second look for big crowds of people.
The Good Stuff
Great for community groups or large gatherings
Easy to use
Modern design
Lots of cooking space
Easy to clean
The So-So
Not suitable for single or smaller families
Very heavy and hard to move
Charcoal Grill Buyers Guide
As you probably discovered after reading my best charcoal grill reviews, all grills are definitely not created equal. They all share some common elements and features, but when you’re ready to make an investment in a quality portable bbq for grilling that uses charcoal instead of propane, there are a few things you will want to look for and some things to avoid. Here is my condensed charcoal grill guide to help you get the perfect patio grill that you can enjoy for many years to come.
What will you be cooking & how much?
Before you purchase, make sure you get a charcoal bbq that can handle the food you will be grilling as well as the amount of food you will grill at any given time. If you plan on doing indirect cooking, make sure there’s enough room for the charcoal and some empty space to place your meats over. Also consider that you may be grilling vegetables and other items along with meat and fish. Get a grill with enough space for your needs.
Keep the correct temperature
Grilling at the correct temperature is a must. Make sure you get a grill that has vents in the bottom and the top so you can keep the temperature regulated. Kamodo grills will let you adjust the placement of the charcoal so you can keep it closer or farther from the food for better control.
Durability
The best charcoal grills will have solid internal and external construction that will last for years and years. Cheap grills won’t last, so spend a little more to get one with stainless steel and ceramic construction materials. You’ll have much better food and you won’t waste hundreds of dollars on a discounted grill that only lasts a couple of summers.
Keepin’ it clean
One of the main downsides to grilling with charcoal over natural gas is the dirty factor. Charcoal isn’t clean, but you want your grill to be, so make sure you buy a bbq that has a simple charcoal clean out area. This may be in the form of a removable charcoal tray or a bottom door that lets you remove ashes with ease.

These beauties pack power, style and some cool tech into an otherwise boring piece of gear that sits in your garage 99% of the time. Let’s face it, lawn mowers aren’t the sexiest of backyard tools. However, when you start shopping around, you discover There Are a Great Deal of different models how do you narrow down your hedge trimmer selection
There are essentially just 3 things you want to consider: 1) Battery Power, 2) Size of Blade, and 3) Cutting Capacity.
Blade dimensions: Blade sizes fluctuate significantly from 13 to 40 inches but 26-inch blades can cut branches up to inches broad and are sufficient for most tasks. Extension should you need to reach tall shrubs or hedges, invest a bit more and find a hedge trimmer with a telescoping pole to extend your reach.
Battery life: Batteries have greatly improved lately, and electric hedge trimmers now have up batteries to 80 volts. For optimal battery life, look for lithium ion batteries and think about getting an extra battery pack to help you make it through larger jobs. .
Who makes the finest battery-powered hedge trimmer these days There;s a whole lot of thought which goes into answering a question such as this, and it boils down to a great deal more than the specs and attributes from a producers website.
Cordless Hedge Trimmer Buyers Guide
Lately, a cordless hedge trimmer has been one of the simplest tools to move from petrol to battery. There;s been enough electricity since near the start there.
Essentially, a hedge trimmer is a cousin to a reciprocating saw, but on a Lance Armstrong nutritional supplement program. The blades reach out mostly from the 20 24 range with a few exceptions and they’re a bit milder. .
These tools can create a good deal of weight and vibration can be a killer. Its one thing if each hedge around your residence is at waist level. The reality is that we frequently have to cut at shoulder length or greater and the weight could be a killer after just a couple of minutes. .
We just wrapped up a thorough look at 10popular models targeting homeowners up to commercial Experts. You’ll want to check the results out.

An excellent hedge trimmer is an excellent tool. With no cable to watch out for and no gas to blend, the very best battery powered hedge trimmers are fast becoming the most popular choices for home owners in 2020.
Having the perfect battery managed trimmer can help you actually enjoy trimming tress, your own shrubs, and hedges. Ill show you exactly what you want to think about when you’ll see my best picks.
If you’re reading this particular post, you’ve determined that you are officially finished with mixing gas and smelling fumes. You’re done with paying someone or utilizing hedge clippers for hours ELSE to look after your landscape needs. You’re ready for something light, effective, sharp, and yet, powerful.
Lets begin with the biggest and probably most crucial consideration: the battery. Its what makes your tool operate, after all, so youd better be happy with it. A few notes :
Tools operated that you purchase require batteries, and it includes a charger when you buy one.
You’ll see 2 distinct sets of numbers on the battery: Ah and V. Ah basically refers to the total amount of amperage (current) that the battery delivers in a 1 hour time frame. A higher number means a higher energy charge.
You need both the Ah and also the V to Get the Watts. And what’s a Watt Again in terms, its the size of this fuel tank that is battery’s. A larger gas tank (with energy being the fuel), the higher the energy you can know the battery has.
Unfortunately Watts they generally list Ah and V is not listed by the companies. You want to compare the Watts if you want to compare the strength of different batteries.
In this example, you can see Battery B includes a higher energy capacity than Battery A. This means that you can in theory anticipate Battery B to operate the hedge trimmer almost 4x as long as Battery A, OR that Battery B could the hedge trimmer 4x faster or with more power than Battery A for the identical length of time. (See more.) .
All this is great to understand, especially if you are wanting a battery powered trimmer with an extremely powerful, powerful battery which will keep you working longer between recharging. But not everyone will need the most powerful battery as not everyone will be doing the same chores with it. Don’t believe you want to get the best (which comes of course with a high price tag) if you’re not going to be using it regularly. .

The Best Ice Chests For 2020
Coolers are kind of one of those afterthought items for the yard that most people don’t really take the time to research. While ice chests are pretty much a just a tool to keep stuff cold, choosing the right one for your home is not as simple as it sounds. Considering how many different styles and sizes of ice chests are available, knowing how and where you will use it most is essential to picking a versatile cooler that will work for your backyard parties, camping, tailgating and even fishing. I’ve gone ahead and done the hard work for you and researched the heck out of the best ice chests & coolers for 2020 and compiled a nice buyers guide to help you pick the right cooler for your budget and needs.
If you click on a link from this page and make a purchase, YardMasterz.com may earn a small commission from Amazon or other retailers.
Top 5 Portable Ice Chest Coolers
TOP PICK – Orca 26 Qt White Cooler
This 26-quart cooler from Orca is my pick for a smaller, manageable cooler that’s still sturdy enough to last for many years. It’s perfect for camping, small get-togethers, outdoor sports and other activities. This cooler is built with about three layers of insulation to keep the contents cold for a long time.
In my experience, the cooler stays cold for a little under a week before needing new ice. The lid also feels dependable, unlike many other coolers. It has a tight seal that traps cold and prevents any leaks. The Orca also comes with side handles that allow for easy portability. The Orca is a reasonably priced high-end cooler. I’m confident that I’ll be able to rely on it for a long time to come, and none of the parts feel as if they’ll easily break off.
The Orca does come in different sizes. The 26-quart is a convenient size because it’s easy to pack into a smaller space, and it’s relatively light at about 20 pounds. Still, even those 20 pounds can feel like a burden when you’re carrying a cooler with such a small capacity around — it can fit only about 24 cans of beer, for example.
However, all high-end coolers seem to have the same issue with being heavy for their size. If that means a better, longer-lasting product, then that seems to be a fair trade off. I’d recommend this product to any family that wants a small yet tough cooler.
Review Summary
I like to think of the Orca brand coolers as the “poor man’s Yeti”. The construction is definitely above average and I found that ice stayed rock solid for up to 5 days before needing replenishing. The Orca’s tend to be lighter weight than similar coolers in the class, but they’re plenty rugged to haul out to a camping site or keep on the boat. No reason you can’t also use this cooler for backyard parties without taking up much space. I highly recommend this cooler if you don’t want to spend big cash for some of the other big name brands.
Top Features
Small, convenient size
Lightweight
Affordable
Good seal
American Made
Needs Improvement
Hardware feels a bit cheap
  #2 Igloo Polar Cooler
The best part about this cooler is the size. It’s much bigger in person than you’d expect which is useful for large family gatherings, picnics or camping trips. You can fit several large bags of ice in this unit, and the more ice you add, the cooler it gets. For such a large cooler, it’s impressively lightweight.
The Polar is fully insulated with Ultratherm technology. It also comes with UV inhibitors to prevent the lid from heating up in the sun. The cooler is designed to keep ice cool for up to 5 days at 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I didn’t get a chance to use it in those conditions, but I did notice that it began to melt slightly at around the 3-day mark. That’s not bad for such a large, affordable cooler, but it’s something to keep in mind for those that need longer-term ice storage. Another perk of the Polar is that it comes with a threaded drain plug. That means you don’t have to worry about picking up the entire cooler and dumping out melted water.
For me, a cooler of this size without a drain would be a huge inconvenience, so it’s great that the drain comes included and is easy to use. The cooler comes with two handles, so it’s easy to lift into the car. The lid snaps closed and you can tie it down, so there’s no risk of spilling the contents of the cooler all of your trunk. However, the handles themselves are relatively flimsy — they’ve stayed intact so far, but the quality feels subpar like they might come loose at some point. Also, the lid isn’t air-tight like some other coolers are.
That’s likely the culprit behind the shortened cooling time. Since this unit is affordable, it’s still a great value for the money. It’s great for storing huge amounts of ice over a few days.
Review Summary
The Igloo Polar cooler is a no frills ice chest that will definitely keep your food and drinks cold for multiple days without issue.  It’s light weight so traveling with it isn’t a problem.  You will find better fit & finish on more expensive coolers, but for the price this is a solid option for your backyard barbecues & parties.
Top Features
120 quart capacity
Keeps ice cool for up to 5 days
Drain plug for easy draining
Heavy Duty handles for easy carrying
Easy to clean
Needs Improvement
Flimsy hinges
Lid doesn’t fully seal sometimes
  #3 Pelican ProGear Elite Cooler
This cooler from Pelican is a nice medium size. It’s small enough to be handled relatively easily but large enough to hold plenty of ice and other items. On the other hand, it’s quite heavy for its size at around 36 pounds, so it’s much better for local activities like parties or tailgates. It’s not ideal for any activity where you’d need to carry it and its contents for a long distance. Though the Pelican doesn’t hold nearly as much ice as the Polar, it keeps the ice solid for much longer.
It claims to keep ice cool for up to 10 days, and my experience was that it does exactly that. It’s truly impressive in that regard, and it’s not surprising once you see how rugged it looks in person. It looks like it’s built to last. The cooler is quite durable. It doesn’t dent or scratch easily. Though it’s unlikely that you’ll be using it in rough conditions, it’s nice to know that it will hold up to some manhandling if need be.
A couple drops or rolls are unlikely to be noticeable at all. The handles on this cooler are reliable, too. The hardware is all made of stainless steel, so the cooler is resistant to wear-and-tear. This cooler also includes a latch, which helps keep the contents completely protected. The latch is easy to open while still being sturdy. This cooler is noticeably higher in price than some other models, but in this case, you get what you pay for. It’s a high-quality model that will last for many years, so if you use coolers regularly, this one will eventually pay for itself. The only true downside to this unit is the weight. It’s difficult to manage with just one person.
Review Summary
Pelican coolers are renown for their high quality materials and solid construction. The ProGear Elite cooler is no exception. This is a rugged cooler that may be a bit on the heavier side, but it’s superior insulation will keep your perishables cold for up to 10 days. That makes it perfect for long camping trips and even on the boat for keeping fish iced down for long trips. The price tag is on the higher end, similar to the Yeti brand, but you will not have to replace this cooler anytime soon. Put this one on your short list.
Top Features
Three inches of permafrost insulation
Heavy-duty construction
Sturdy latches with rubber seal
Two drain plugs
Needs Improvement
High price
Rather heavy (39 pounds)
  #4 Yeti Tundra 110 Cooler
The Yeti Tundra 110 was designed especially as a fishing / rafting cooler, but I can assure you that it’s also well-suited to many other uses. This model is quite large — it can hold 101 pounds of ice or 65 cans of beer. That makes it perfect for parties and tailgates. As such a sizable cooler, it’s quite heavy even while empty.
You’ll definitely need two people to lift it if it’s full. In my experience, the Tundra keeps ice cold for at least a week before it begins to melt noticeably, though it depends on whether it’s sitting directly in the sun. The cooler’s quality is noticeable immediately, from the latch to the handles to the rubber feet.
The sides are layered with about 3 inches of permafrost to keep the contents nice and cool, and the walls are even designed to be bear-resistant — perfect for camping, though thankfully I don’t have personal experience with that quite yet. The Tundra also has not one but two drain plugs. That allows it to drain more quickly than other models once the ice is melted.
This cooler is top of the line, so it’s not cheap. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants an item that will last for a long time without needing any repairs or maintenance. It comes in different sizes.  Take a look at some of the other Yeti Tundra ice chest models.
Review Summary
The Yeti Tundra series of coolers are just beasts. They’re the Rolls Royce of ice chests and while they may seem like overkill for the average backyard party, it’s likely that you will never have to buy another cooler again if you purchase a Yeti brand cooler. Rugged construction, heavy duty latches and hinges, plus ridiculous insulation make this a cooler for the serious camper or fisherman. Bring one of these to your next event and watch the jealousy drip from every guy who wishes he had a bad ass cooler like this. Downsides, pricey and heavy, but this ain’t no Styrofoam cooler you take to the beach.
Top Features
Three inches of permafrost insulation
Heavy-duty construction
Sturdy latches with rubber seal
Two drain plugs
Huge storage capacity
Versatile for many cooling application
Needs Improvement
Higher price point
Rather heavy (39 pounds)
#5 Coleman Coastal Xtreme Ice Chest
For an affordable, reliable cooler that can hold an amazing amount of ice, the Coleman Coastal Xtreme is my pick. It’s quite lightweight for a cooler of this capacity — it weighs just 13 pounds and can hold a whopping 120 quarts of ice. Like most Coleman products, this cooler is reliable quality.
It’s exactly what you expect out of a standard camping cooler, complete with built-in cupholders and side handles. The cooler also doubles as a seat. It can hold up to 250 pounds of weight, which speaks to the high level of quality of the lid. Most of the cooler feels sturdy and relatively durable for the price, with the exception of the handles.
They’ve held up thus far, but they do feel a bit cheaply made for a cooler that can hold so much weight. The hardware is made of stainless steel, but the handle hinges are made of plastic. This cooler keeps ice cold for several days before melting. It comes with drain plugs for easy draining. A cooler of this size is naturally difficult to fit into a small space. It took up the entirety of my trunk space, which for me was a con.
While the size is, of course, a necessary tradeoff for the capacity, this cooler is best for those who truly need to store a ton of items. Otherwise, the generous capacity will go to waste.  Coleman makes a 120 qt marine version of this cooler as well, take a look here.
Review Summary
I completely understand that not everyone wants to drop $300 on a ice chest. That’s why I wanted to include a couple affordable coolers that still offer excellent performance, with quality materials at an affordable price. The Coleman Coastal Xtreme is exactly that. It’s not going to keep ice cold as long as the Yeti or Pelican brands, but this is a great cooler for the price and perfect for using in the backyard. It’s also light enough that you can easily travel with it and won’t need 6 people to help move it around. The price is under $100 which makes it a great ice chest option for just about any budget.
Top Features
Keeps ice cool for up to 6 days

Ice Chest / Cooler Buyer’s Guide
There’s a lot of different styles and models of ice chest on the market these days.  It can be difficult to narrow down your cooler options if you don’t know where to start.  I reviewed 5 of the best coolers that I believe fit into most buyer’s budgets and offer varying levels of performance based on the needs of the user.  Before you jump into buying a new ice chest, take a quick look at some of the things you’ll want to consider.  This will help you get the best cooler for where and how you plan on using it.
Ice Chest Size
Nearly every cooler manufacturer offers their models in multiple sizes.  These will have varying dimensions as well as capacities.  Try to determine how much food or drinks you’ll need to keep cold at any given time and for how long you’ll want to keep your items cold.  Also consider how far you will need to move the cooler, as the weight can be an issue if you only have one person available to lift the heavier sized coolers.
Cooler Brand Name
While buying an ice chest strictly based on brand name isn’t necessarily a good idea, you will find that in most cases, the bigger brand names tend to produce higher quality products.  Yeti, Orca, Coleman, Igloo & Thermik are all large brands that have been making excellent ice chest’s for many years.  Keep in mind that you may be paying extra for the name as well, so factor that into your decision of which coolers to put on your buying list.
Price
You can easily spend up to $700 on a 110 quart marine grade cooler from one of the larger brand name manufacturers.  But don’t let the cheaper price tags fool you into thinking they’re inferior quality.  If you shop around a bit, you can find similar style coolers for a fraction of the cost.  I’ve included several of these in my reviews above.  On average, you should expect to spend around $200 for a quality ice chest that will hold in the 65 to 100 quart range and have quality parts & construction.
Insulation
Insulation is the main factor in determining how long your cooler will keep your items cold.  Obviously the thicker the insulation, the better the cooler will perform at keeping stuff cold.  The higher end coolers will normally feature 3″ of insulation.  Cheaper models may only have 1″ of insulation, which will only keep cold for shorter periods of time.  I recommend going with a unit that has at least 2″ of insulation in the body.  This is a good trade off of cooling, overall weight and the cost will be reasonable as well.
Fit & Finish
Once you have the size and style of cooler narrowed down, pay particular attention to the latches and hinges.  These are the weak link on most coolers and cheap, plastic hinges, latches and handles tend to be the first parts to fail.  You’ll pay a bit more, but an ice chest with metal hinges, and hard rubber latches will help provide a better seal, which will keep your items cold as long as possible.  Also make sure the cooler has at least one drain plug.  It’s no fun trying to dump out 50 pounds of ice and water without making a complete mess.

Top 5 Cordless Leaf Blowers for 2020
Comparing The Best Battery Powered Leaf Blowers
Having a lightweight battery powered leaf blower for your house or even an apartment is a great tool for quick cleanup of smaller areas with leaves grass clippings and other debris. Benefits to having a battery powered leaf blower is that they’re very easy to use, they’re very lightweight, and generally not that expensive. Another nice thing, depending on the model you buy, is the batteries will most likely interchange with your current battery powered tool systems such as cordless drills and saws.
Not having a cord attached to the blower gives you the freedom to do jobs all around your property in a much quicker time and much easier then with a corded leaf blower. It’s also nice not having to buy gas and fuel mixture, because as long as you have a battery charged you’re ready to blow.
These are my picks for the 5 cordless leaf blowers that you can easily pick up on Amazon.com and lots of other websites.
  #1 DeWalt DCBL720 P1 20V MAX 5.0
First off I’m a big fan of all DeWalt products. Nearly all of the tools in my shop are DeWalt with the exception of maybe one or two. Their current 20 volt battery system is definitely one of the best on the market. With that said, I was very excited to try out this DeWalt cordless leaf blower and see how performed against other brands in its class. My first impression of the DeWalt dcbl720 P1 was how much power it had when you first pull the trigger. The axial fan design definitely maximizes the air output, as well as the run time.
The brushless motor is also great because it will extend the life of the motor. I really like the Speed Lock feature that will keep the variable speed trigger. You can set it exactly where you want it so you don’t have to hold the trigger down the entire time you’re using the blower.
This DeWalt is very lightweight even with the battery inserted. It’s so light at 7lbs even my kids can use it, which is nice because they couldn’t use my old gas powered leaf blower. So now I can put them to work in the backyard.  I got about 25 minutes of constant blowing time with this DeWalt which is pretty good in my mind and will let me clean up just about any jobs I have in the backyard without having to change batteries.
The noise level with this blower is not unreasonable.   With my old gas blower I always felt bad for the neighbors because it was so loud. However this DeWalt blower is relatively quiet by comparison.  This DeWalt model is definitely one of my top picks and one you should put on your short list to consider. Read the full DeWalt dcbl720 P1 blower review here.
Top Features
Highly efficient brushless motor
Axial fan design for maximum air output
400 CFM and 90 mph performance
Variable trigger Speed Lock
20 volt lithium ion battery and charger included
Needs Improvement
Only 25 minutes of battery life at full speed
  #2 Milwaukee 2728-2 1 HD M18V Li-Ion
To be honest I haven’t owned a lot of Milwaukee products in the past.   I’ve always been a DeWalt and Porter Cable Guy.  But I have to say I’m definitely impressed with this Milwaukee 18 volt cordless leaf blower. The first thing I noticed is that it’s extremely quiet.  Probably a bit quieter than the DeWalt actually. It’s rated at 63db, which is about 30% less than most gas leaf blowers.
You can tell when you pick it up at the construction is very solid. It’s a little bit heavier than the DeWalt, but not by much. The M18 fuel blower has enough power to blow leaves and debris from almost 15 feet. If you’re used to a gas powered leaf blower like a Stihl or Echo, you’re not going to be disappointed with the volume of air that this Milwaukee produces. With the big 18 volt battery, you can get 40 to 45 minutes of continuous run time.  For me this is plenty to clean up after any lawn mowing or yard work job.
One nice feature that I really liked is the ambidextrous speed control which allows the blower to be set at a fixed power so you can relax your operating hand. I found that running the Milwaukee blower at about 80% power produced the best results. At full power this leaf blower scatters leaves and debris everywhere. I recommend keeping it about 75 to 80% for better control.
The Milwaukee is definitely more of an industrial/commercial style blower. However it’s still perfect for residential use and while it’s a little more expensive then some of the other blowers and its class you will definitely notice the difference in construction quality and power. Read my full review on the Milwaukee 2728-21HD blower.
Top Features
30% less noise than gas blowers
Only 63 decibel noise rating
Comes with blower, 18v battery and charger

Heavier than other models
Replacement batteries are a bit pricey
  #3 Greenworks GBL80300 2400102
So on to our next leaf blower we have the Greenworks gbl80300 cordless leaf blower. I’ve tested some of the Greenworks products here on YardMasterz.com. Most recently one of their battery-powered lawn mowers. I have to say I was extremely impressed with the quality and performance of that mower so I was looking forward to testing out this cordless leaf blower to see if it lived up to the quality of their other products.
First, I really like the sleek-looking design of this Greenworks blower. It just looks pleasing to the eye before you even use it. This model also has a brushless motor which extends the life of the product and delivers performance close to a 32cc gas engine. The blowing power is about 500 CFM at 125 mph. You can blow dry grass and leaves as well as wet debris with absolutely no problem at all. The push button start on this model is somewhat unique. haven’t seen this feature in any of the other blowers I tested.
I managed to get about one hour of run time of continuous use using the fully charged 2ah battery that comes with  this blower package. Like the other blowers I tested, the Greenworks was very quiet. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this leaf blower in the morning as I doubt the neighbors would even hear it if their doors and windows are closed. Another nice feature is that this battery system works with over 20 other Greenworks products. So if you own several, you only need one battery system for all of them.
With the cost of the batteries,  it’s nice to know you only need to have a couple on hand for all of your tools. Just because Greenworks is a relatively new kid on the block for yard and power tools, don’t let that fool you into thinking they can’t compete with the old players. They’re making high quality products that are equally good for residential and professional use.All of this at a price point that won’t break the bank for most homeowners. Add the Greenworks gbl80300 to your shortlist of battery powered leaf blowers to consider.  Read my full review of the Greenworks GBL80300 here.

  #4 Powersmith PBL140JH 40V Max Leaf Jet
So prior to putting together this review I hadn’t heard of the Powersmith brand for battery-powered lawn care equipment. However, after looking at some of the products they have on Amazon and their customer reviews I was pleasantly surprised and decided to add this particular battery powered leaf blower to my top 5 list.
When the Powersmith blower arrived and I got to try it out for the first time the feel of it was very similar to the DeWalt blower. In fact the look is also very similar to the DeWalt blower. Immediately, I like the power output of this blower. This model is rated at 120 mph/450 CFM, and it definitely generates a good amount of wind with a fully charged battery. Again, like the other models, this unit has a brushless motor for a longer run time more power and more torque than brushed motors. In the end this just means less wear and tear on the blower and you’ll get more life out of it.
After using the Powersmith a few times I started to realize how much lighter it actually is than the other blowers I tested. This is a great blower for older folks and even senior citizens who just want to blow off driveways and patios with some quick use. But even if you are a homeowner who needs to do some serious leaf or lawn clippings blowing, there’s no reason the Powersmith can’t handle the job with it’s large CFM output.
The one downside with this leaf blower is that I only got about 20 minutes of trigger time. So I would definitely suggest ordering a second battery if you decide to purchase this particular blower. It does come with a single  40 V battery and charger but a backup battery is recommended.

#5 EGO 56 Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Blower
Last but certainly not least on my list of the top 5 cordless leaf blowers for 2019 is the EGO 168 mph variable speed blower. this new EGO blower is one of the most powerful handheld blowers on the market delivering up to 580 CFM with its unique turbine fan brushless motor. The design of this blower is very sleek and lightweight. One of the best features is the tapered nozzle attachments which make clearing debris super easy. You’re probably not going to find this particular EGO model in most of the big box stores. This high-powered model I’ve only been able to find online. When I tested this blower for the first time the battery was only partially charged yet I was still able to clear away my back patio of leaves in just a couple of minutes.
The power this model produces is really unbelievable. And if that wasn’t enough it has a “boost”  button to give you an even bigger blast of air. Now I haven’t tested this personally, but according to the manufacturer you can get up to 3 hours of runtime on this blower when you use the efficiency mode. The batteries do take a while to charge. Up to 90 minutes for the larger battery, but while the battery is charging there’s a fan that kicks on to keep the battery from overheating which is a great feature.
Yes the price tag is a little higher than some of the other EGO models, but you definitely get more bang for your buck with this unit. I’m guessing that even some professional gas powered blowers don’t have as much power as this 56-volt EGO blower does.  If you don’t believe me just check out the reviews on Amazon as well. Everyone who’s purchase this particular blower has been shocked with the amount of power it has. Get this EGO and your neighbors are going to have blower envy..big time!

Cordless Leaf Blower Buyer’s Guide
Choosing the right cordless leaf blower for your particular needs shouldn’t be a complicated decision.  yes there are quite a few makes and models on the market with varying price tags,  but in the end nearly all of them have similar features. Here are just a few things you should consider before making your lower purchase. You’ll probably want to do is figure out how much you want to spend and next decide how much blowing you’re actually going to do. Personally, I have about a 1 acre yard with lots of trees, bushes, planters and obviously lawn. For my situation, a leaf blower with about 40 minutes of continuous run time is what I need to complete the jobs around my property. But if you just have a small patio and a driveway that you want to keep clean you can definitely choose a model with a little less power and a little shorter battery life. This will lower the cost and save you a few bucks.
Power/Speed
When looking at the performance of a battery leaf blower you definitely want to keep an eye out on the mph and CFM numbers. Both of these determine the volume and speed of air exiting the blower tube. Mph means miles per hour and CFM means cubic feet per minute. The higher the numbers on the particular model you’re looking at the more air the motor won’t push through the tube. Obviously you can blow heavier debris  with a blower that has more power.
Sound rating
If you live in an area with an h o a, there may be regulations on how much noise your yard equipment is allowed to produce. With the association before purchasing a leaf blower just to make sure you’re within HOA rules. With cordless leaf blowers being considerably more quiet than gas-powered blowers, I highly doubt you’ll have any complaints from your neighbors while blowing off your back patio. most of these blowers are rated around the 60 decibel range.Anything under 80 decibels is definitely a neighbor friendly blower. This is definitely worth looking at on the model you’re considering purchasing.
Battery Voltage
The blower models I tested here had battery voltage ranging from 18 volts up to 80 volts. Generally speaking, the higher the battery voltage the longer the charge and blower run time will be. You will definitely pay more for an 80 volt battery blower versus a 20 volt battery blower. Depending on your needs you may just want to find a cordless leaf blower with a battery voltage somewhere in the middle. another thing to consider when it comes to batteries is your existing power tools. If you can purchase a blower that runs on the same battery system as your cordless drill and saws, he will likely already have some backup batteries at your disposal.
Weight
One of the biggest advantages to purchasing a battery powered leaf blower is the low weight. Traditional  handheld gas-powered blowers and gas backpack blowers are extremely heavy and not always suited for Homeowner/residential use. A cordless leaf blower is perfect for small jobs around the house and is especially Suited  for  older people or individuals who are not strong enough to use a heavy gas powered blower. Most battery power blowers will weigh less than 10 lbs. Be sure to check the weight on the model you’re looking at and make sure it fits your needs.

Choosing The Best Whole House Fan 2020
Cool down fast with a high efficiency whole home fan. If you’re like me, you absolutely hate running the air conditioning even during the hottest months of the year, because you can virtually watch the meter ticking off dollar bills as you try to keep your home cool.  Unfortunately,  air conditioning and the high electric bill that comes with it are a part of life for most of the country.  There are also potential health repercussions from using traditional air conditioning units.  The air that is used is recirculated and never vented, so any dust or contaminates are blown back through your house, over and over again.
With a whole house fan, the air is drawn in from the outside.  This keeps cooler, fresh air circulating through your home while the fan is running.  The fan sucks out the warm air and blows it into the attic space or out a roof vent.  These fans come in multiple sizes that will work in just about any home.  They use considerably less electricity than an A/C unit, so you will not only cool your home down efficiently, but also save some money on your monthly electric bill.   I’ve reviewed over a dozen whole house fans and put together a list of the top performers.  This is a solid investment for your home, but you definitely want to get the best unit for your budget.
Comparing The Top Whole House Fans
# Preview Product Price 1 QuietCool QC CL-3100 Original Classic Fan Model $799.00 See Lowest Price 2 QA-Deluxe 4800(R) Whole House Fan | Includes 1-Speed Wireless Remote Control & Timer | R-5... $1,352.03 See Lowest Price 3 Centric Air 3.4A Whole House Fan with R-10 Power Actuated Cold Weather Damper| 3242 CFM (HVI-916)... $1,823.00 See Lowest Price 4 QuietCool QC CL-2250 Original Classic Fan Model $649.00 $576.94 See Lowest Price 5 Tamarack Insulated Whole House Fan - 1150 CFM, 70 Watts, Model Number HV1000 $605.00 See Lowest Price
#1 QuietCool QC CL-3100 Original Classic Fan Model
My top pick goes to the QuietCool QC CL-3100 fan system.  This unit features a self contained duct system that hangs in your attic to provide less sound and noise vibration when the fan is running.  You can choose from 1,464 CFM air flow up to a whopping 6,924 CMF depending on the size of your home.
This model features barometric pressurized gravity dampers which close automatically when the fan air flow stops.  This ensures that you don’t let heat escape back into your home from the attic or lose cool air into the attic.
The CL-3100 can handle a home up to approximately 1,600 sq/ft and with the high efficiency motor, you get amazing cooling performance and less energy usage.  Definitely put this QuietCool home fan at the top of your list.
#2 QA-4800(R) Whole House Fan
QA Deluxe Fans makes some amazingly high quality products and these fans are beasts when it comes to moving hot air out of your house and sucking in cool air from outside.  The 4800 model we tested can handle up to 2600 sq/ft single story homes or 3400 sq/ft two story homes.  It can literally cut your A/C bill by up to 90% in some cases.  This fan is perfect if you live in an area that has very hot days, but cooler evenings.  Flip this fan on before dark and feel the immediate cool down as the cooler air is drawn in and the hot air expelled through the attic.
Installation of the 4800 fan is very straightforward.  In about 90 minutes you can have this whole home fan mounted and hooked into your existing attic electric.  One nice feature of the design is that the QA fans are built to fit between 16″ and 24″ joists, which means you won’t need to do any extra framing before you mount the fan.
This fan runs on 120v and weighs approximately 60 pounds, so you will probably need an extra set of hands to help you get the unit into the attic for mounting.  At just 54dB, this fan is extremely quiet for the size.
#3 Centric Air 3.4A Fan Power Actuated Cold Weather Damper
#3 on my list is the Centric Air 3.4 attic fan.  The only reason this fan didn’t rank higher was because the price tag is a little high, but you definitely get a high quality fan unit for what you pay.  This fan comes with power actuated weather dampers and a 2 speed wireless remote control, which is so nice because it means you don’t have to install a timer switch on the wall.
This fan uses 382 watts of power and can run for pennies on the hour.  Much less than your current A/C system.  This fan is rated for over 40,000 hours of use and is up to 30% more efficient and powerful than other industrial fans in this price range.
One of the things that keeps this fan operating so quietly is that it it’s not belt driven, like other attic fans.  The direct drive keeps the noise down and the energy savings up.
Installation is relatively easy as well.  The most difficult part is running the electrical to the fan unit, but if you’re not comfortable with this as a DIY project, you can definitely hire an electrician to run the wiring and it shouldn’t cost a ton.  The fan weighs about 65lbs, so you’ll need some help getting it into the attic.
Wait until a hot evening when you crank this fan on and feel the cool air being pulled in from outside.  You’ll wonder why you took so long to install a quality whole house fan.
#4 QuietCool QC CL-2250 Original Classic Fan Model
I ended up including another one of the Quiet Cool fans on my recommended top 5 list because it’s a slightly smaller model than the 3100 I listed in the #1 spot and it’s less expensive as well.  The QC CL-2250 produces approximately 2,280 CFM of air movement which is absolutely perfect for homes in the 1,100 sq/ft range.
Just like the other Quiet Cool models, the 2250 features the patented self contained duct system which really helps keep the sound volume down from inside the house.  Sound can be further dampened by using the approved strap hanger system for the fan unit, which eliminates excessive vibration into the house structure.  You should notice very little, if any sound inside the house when the fan is at full power.
This is the original classic fan line from QC which first came out in 2003.  They’ve been making advanced home ventilation systems for over 15 years and are by far the most popular when it comes to whole home fan cooling.
The fan motor operates on low voltage and amperage, keeping electricity usage to a minimum and reducing your electrical bills.  This unit also features a 10 year warranty, so if you have any issues at all in the first 10 years, you are 100% covered.  This alone makes the QuietCool fan worth picking up.
#5 Tamarack HV1000 Insulated 1150 CFM
Last, but definitely not least on the list is the Tamarack HV1000 insulated fan system that produces up to 1,150 CFM at 70 Watts of power.
This is a slightly different fan setup from the others I reviewed, as it doesn’t have the duct work with the fan at the end.  This unit mounts right to your ceiling joists in the attic and the fans point directly down into the house.  The main benefit of this is that it takes up less space in the attic.  It also is more compact and weighs about half of the bigger duct fans.
If your home is in the 1,100 sq/ft range, this is the size fan you want.  Tamarack makes larger units as well for bigger homes.  Even if you have a bigger house and decide to install this model, you will still get plenty of cooling performance, you will just need to run the fan longer to cool the entire home.
The HV1000 uses minimal power, keeping the bills low and is very quiet during full power usage.  Installation is very simple, especially if you already have an available power outlet near the installation location of your attic.
Price point is also reasonable at nearly half the cost of similar sized duct style home fans.  I would definitely put this on your list of fans to consider, especially if you have a moderate sized home that doesn’t requite a massive fan to cool it down.
Your Home Fan Buyer’s Guide
Whole home fans are a major investment for any homeowner. The larger the home the larger the investment. Therefore purchasing a home fan that meets all of their requirements and is high is it going to be quality enough to last for many years is a must . I want to help educate you and give you all of the knowledge you need to purchase the right whole house fan that will work perfectly in your home.
Well you could very easily go to the local hardware store to purchase one of these fans and have it work just fine, there are still a few things that you should know about and consider before making a purchase. The size of your house is the number one factor in determining which whole home fan you should purchase. The quality of the fan itself is the next most important thing.
Be sure to take your time and read all of the specs. that I provided on the product listings above. This will ensure that you get the right fan for your home and the cooling you need.
What you need to know about whole home fans
While there are many different types of fans you can install in your attic not all of them are as efficient for cooling your home as others. Roof fans and Gable fans do a good job of venting your attic space, however they don’t do a good job a cooling your actual living space. This is where a whole house fan gets the job done better than any other type of fan .
Not only will you be able to cool your home down in a fraction of the time of an air conditioning system, you’ll be paying Pennies on the dollar compared to the expense of running your AC for hours each day. These fans are energy efficient which helps them cool your home in a fraction of the time.
We all want our home to be comfortable but in many areas of the country the summer heat can be overwhelming. Nobody enjoys living or sleeping in a house that’s too hot. Installing a fan system is the most efficient and least expensive way to keep your home comfortable year-round.
In the next section I’m going to give you a little bit of information about some of the common questions that come up when considering buying a whole home fan system.
Are whole house fans effective at Cooling?
Virtually everybody knows that an air conditioning system is one of the best ways to keep your house cool in the summer. But the fact that running the AC night and day can nearly triple your electric bill makes it hard for some homeowners to swallow. With a home fan system you don’t need to run the unit constantly to cool down your home. You can flip it on a couple times during the day for several minutes or turn it on right before everybody goes to bed to make sure the house is cool for sleeping in.
Whole home fans are extremely effective however they are dependent on several factors to be completely efficient. They very easily move large volumes of air out of your home and into your attic space quickly. However to really cool your house down properly the outside temperature needs to be considerably cooler then the inside temperature of your home. If your home is 85 degrees inside and it’s 95 degrees outside your fan is only going to suck in hotter are and not cool your home down very well. If you live in a climate where you have hot days and cooler evenings you are a prime candidate for installing a whole home fan.
At the end of the day simply open the door to or crack a couple of windows and turn your fan on. The fan will pull all the warm air out of your home and vented into your attic and at the same time, draw the cooler air in from outside. Depending on the size of your home you can replace all of the warm air with cool air after just a few minutes of running your fan.
One of the downsides to the volume of air that these fans can move is that they will also tend to pull in dust are particles that are in the air outside as the cooler air replaces the hot air in your home. Well it’s probably not enough to be a health concern you will likely notice your home is a little dustier during the times when you run your fan. It’s a small price to pay for having a comfortable temperature in your home.
How energy efficient are whole house fans?
Now that you know how effective a whole home fan system can be you’re probably wondering exactly how much energy you’re going to save, and dollars, over using your traditional air conditioning system. This is definitely one of the main reasons people tend to go with a whole home fan unit is because running the AC is far too expensive to do for an entire summer season. The benefit of the whole home fan is that you can run it in short bursts for quick cooling. This means you’re not drawing continuous electricity like a normal AC.
The motors these fans use are extremely efficient and can produce high power output without consuming a lot of power. Meaning they will suck a lot of air without using a lot of electricity in the process. Most home fans like this will use between 200 watts and 700 watts of power. A typical air conditioning system can use over 2000 watts of power and up to 5000 watts of power. A whole home fan only uses 15% of a standard home air conditioning system. This is what makes a whole house fan so desirable compared to normal AC.
Consumers who installed a whole house fan unit have reported only increasing their monthly electrical bill by $20 for home Cooling during the hottest month of the year. By comparison most homeowners with an air conditioning system see an average increase of over $250 a month when continually running their air conditioning. Again these numbers will vary but this gives you a pretty good idea of how much more efficient at whole home fan is over an AC unit.
Let’s talk about the cost of the unit itself. You can pick up a home fan anywhere from several hundred dollars up to around $1,800. Installation of the unit can cost another $500 to $1,000. So in the end you might have invested just under $3,000 for your cooling fan system. Let’s compare that to a forced air AC system where the unit itself will run likely $4,000 or more. Installation is going to run well over $1,000. So you’ve invested over $5,000 for a traditional air conditioning system for your home which is also going to cost you another $250 a month during the months you run it.
I’m no rocket scientist but I can definitely tell you that a whole home fan is a considerably cheaper investment initially and monthly.
Installing a whole home fan
Before you install your whole house fan make sure you’ve chosen one that matches the size of your home making sure it will fit in your attic or crawl space area. There are different sizes and shapes you can pick from so finding one that will fit your particular space shouldn’t be difficult .
Choosing the right size fan and ventilation
It’s important to know the interior square footage of your home before you purchase your fan. If you don’t know the interior square footage, measure the length and width of each room with a tape measure.
Multiply the total interior space by 2 and this will give you a guide for choosing the proper fan size. Fans are rated in CFM, which means cubic feet of air per minute. The fans will also be rated for a specific range of interior square footage. Make sure you choose a fan that is rated for the size of your home. Do not include basement square footage in your calculation.
Safe fan installation
if you’re planning on installing your whole home fan yourself make sure you follow all of the manufacturer instructions and take necessary safety precautions like shutting off the power and wearing appropriate safety gear when using power tools.
Installing the ceiling vent
Your whole house fan will likely come with a paper template is installed in your ceiling outlining the size of the intake vent which is installed in your ceiling. If your attic has open joists, place the template in between the joists where you want the intake vent to be located.Cut out the indicated area’s per the template. You shouldn’t need to cut any of the Joyce themselves as most home fan units are designed to fit in between 16in and 24 in standard joists.
Running power to the fan
I’m no electrician, so I’d rather not try to give you proper instructions for running power to your fan, however you do have several options with most of the whole home fans. Some will have a remote control for the fan, and you will just need to plug into an available outlet in the attic near the fan unit to have it up and running. Other fans will have to be wired with a switch somewhere in the house so you can turn the house fan on and off. This is the trickier of the 2 options, so if you aren’t good with electrical, or don’t want to pay to hire this job out, I’d suggest getting a fan with a remote control that you can operate from inside your home. It’s a much simpler installation process.
Securing the fan unit
You may need to create a platform for the fan to sit on inside the Attic. You can do this by nailing a piece of plywood to the joists where you want the fan unit to sit. Some fans come with straps that allow you to hang the fan from the roof joists. The benefit of this is that the fan is not touching any part of the house structure transferring vibrations that you will hear from below. No matter which method you use be sure to secure the fan properly so that it does not move around when running.
Check power settings
Once you have your vent installed and your fan unit secured and power run to your fan you will want to adjust the motor speed settings and make sure the fan unit is still tightly secured after running the fan for a period of time.
Wrapping Up
Now you know a whole lot about the different types of whole home fans, how they operate, the costs involved and some basic installation instructions. You should be more than prepared to choose the right fan for your home and get it up and running in no time. You’ll have a much cooler house, a happy family and cheaper electrical bill each month.
*Disclaimer – Be sure to follow all of the manufacturer instructions for safe installation of your fan. The tips & suggestions given in this article are not to be substituted for the manufacturers recommended installation instructions. Take all necessary safety precautions when using power tools or working with electricity.

The Best Backyard Sheds For 2020
Storage Shed Comparison
A backyard storage shed can be a very important part of any yard. The most pressing question to ask before buying a garden shed is what is available and what is important to you.
When you are choosing your garden shed, consider what you will be using it for.  Do you need a small shed that simply stores garden tools, or will you need a large shed that is capable of housing vehicles? With the huge range of shapes and sizes available it will allow you to fit your shed perfectly into your space.
Are you parking your car in the driveway because you have no room left in your garage for your car? Are your closets stuffed full of sporting goods and cleaning supplies and boxes of winter clothes because you have no room in your garage? If this sounds like you and your home, an backyard storage shed might be the space-expanding solution for your family. They are wonderful solutions to getting more storage space for your family. They are great for storing outdoor tools and gardening supplies, and at the same time they allow you to keep the tools and supplies inside, and not get your house dirty but still have room in your garage for your car. Things you usually store in your garage like soil, fertilizer, and lawn tools can be easily and safely stored this shed.  I reviewed a ton of sheds for this article, and picked the 5 best backyard shed’s you’ll want to consider in 2019 if you’re looking to clean up that garage and yard once and for all.
#1. Keter Manor 6 x 8 ft. Resin Garden Storage Shed
This shed by Keter Manor is my number one pick mainly because it looks great and has plenty of internal square footage to organize just about anything you want to get out of the garage or attic.  It’s constructed from strong polypropylene resin and reinforced with steel, so this shed is going to be standing for a lot of years.  Another great benefit is you will never have to paint, stain or seal the exterior of this shed and it won’t rot or rust like many of it’s competitors.
If you have lawnmowers, wheelbarrows, gardening tools, firewood or bikes and backyard gear that have no real home, this shed is an excellent option for all of these items.  The extra large double door is big enough for just about anything you want to store.  This shed comes with a small vent at the roof peak to help keep air circulating.  This is especially important if you plan on keeping garbage or recycling cans in the shed.  It features a sturdy lock on the double doors and has a built in skylight and window so there’s plenty of light inside during the day.  You could easily run an extension cord and have a small shop light inside for those times you need to access the shed after dark.
I really like the faux wood siding that’s molded into the resin.  It looks like real wood and makes the entire shed extremely attractive for any yard.  The fact that the exterior is UV resistant means it’s not going to fade and look bad after a year or two of being in the sun.  Instructions were very easy to follow, but you may want an extra set of hands for assembly.
This shed is a mid range price point around $600.  You can definitely spend more on a backyard shed, but you don’t need to with solid unit from KETER.
Dimensions & Details
Interior Dimensions: 66.5 in. W x 87.4 in. D x 86.5 in. H
Exterior Dimensions: 73.1 in. W x 93.2 in. D x 89.4 in. H
Storage Capacity: 131.8 cu. ft.
Floor Weight Capacity: 30 PSF
#2. Arrow Newburgh Steel Backyard Storage Shed, 8′ x 6′
The second shed on my “Best Shed” list is from Arrow.  This is your classic outdoor steel storage shed which had dual sliding doors and plenty of room inside for all of the stuff you want to organize or just get out of the garage.  It’s constructed from corrosion resistant electro-galvanized steel which helps prevent rust and wear from wet weather.  It has a steel reinforced gable roof which makes the entire shed more rigid and it is looks much nicer than the flat roof metal sheds.
Assembly isn’t too difficult and all of the parts are pre-cut and drilled.  Some holes didn’t line up especially well when we were putting it together, but anyone that’s slightly handy shouldn’t have any problem constructing this shed.  There’s no lock on this model, so you will want to buy and install some type of pad lock mechanism if you need to keep your items secure
You will want to level out a space in your yard for this unit, as you will need to use some 3/4 plywood sheeting for the floor.  If you have a concrete pad available, that would be preferable, otherwise you may want to use some crushed stone or gravel and level that before building this shed.  Another option would be to build a raised foundation out of pressure treated lumber and install the shed on that.  This shed isn’t sexy, but it gets the job done and isn’t expensive.
Dimensions & Details
Interior Dimensions: 94 3/4″ x 66″ x 66 5/8″
Interior Cubic Feet: 230
Interior Square Feet: 43
Necessary Foundation Size: 97 1/2″ x 68 3/4″
Door Opening: 43 1/2″w x  58″h
#3. Keter High Store 4.5 x 2.5 Vertical Outdoor Resin Storage Shed
Number 3 on my list is another great shed option from Keter.  I wanted to include at least one vertical outdoor shed because I know not everyone has unlimited space for shed with a large footprint.  The Keter High Store model is perfect if you need to store gardening tools, a small cordless lawn mower and other miscellaneous items.  The compact size makes it very inconspicuous and it will easily fit on the side of most homes, even if you don’t have a wide space.
The double opening doors are the full width and height of the shed, which gives you easy access to brooms, rakes and other long handled tools.  The wall panels are rib reinforced and the heavy duty floor panels are definitely adequate.  On the inside, there are adjustable brackets which allow you to install 2 shelves, but they are not included with this shed kit.
Assembly is a breeze and can be done by one person if necessary, but a second set of hands never hurts.  Again, the no maintenance factor of this shed is very inviting.  I love not having to paint or re-seal wood every couple of years.  The shed weighs just under 100 pounds, which is light by shed standards.  With help, you can easily move the shed if needed.  Make sure you level out the ground before setting in place.  This is one of the nicest small to mediums sized sheds I tested
Dimensions & Details
Floor weight capacity: 30 PSF
Roof weight capacity: 15 PSF
Exterior Dimensions: 54.9 L X 30.3 W X 71.5 H inches
Interior Dimensions: 50.5 L X 27.2 W X 69.5 H inches
Door opening: 49W X 69.1H inches
#4. Suncast BMS8700 Tremont 8′ x 7′ Storage Shed
The next outdoor shed on the list is the Suncast Tremont model.  This 8’x7′ storage shed is the solution to all of your storage problems and has the looks as well. This model is made from double wall resin with steel reinforcements.  It’s extremely sturdy and has space for just about anything you can think of, short of a boat or vehicle.  I like that the roof is also constructed from the double wall resin and has a metal truss system which add additional rigidity to the entire shed.
The roof has 4 installed skylights and the doors have two divided light windows which provide ample lighting inside the shed. Construction takes about 4-6 hours with help and the instructions are easy to follow.  The double doors are plenty wide for wheeling in trash cans and other large items and the handles/locks are good quality.
The kit comes with 2 interior corner shelves and there are 8 other locations for shelves inside as well.  You have to purchase additional shelves from Suncast.  Amazon has free shipping on this shed for Prime members which is awesome considering how large the packaging is.
You will need a level area or concrete pad in your yard prior to assembling this shed.  I highly recommend this unit if you’re looking for large square footage in a sturdy, reasonably priced shed option.

#5. Lifetime 6406 8 ft x 5 ft Outdoor Storage Shed
This shed by Lifetime is sturdy and effortless to take care of. Lifetime sheds deliver uncompromising storage to whatever needs real protection in your backyard. The tough polyethylene construction of the of walls, floor surface, and roof mean they wont degrade, rot, or attract termites like woods sheds, but still offer rigid support and resistance to UV damage or anything else the outdoors can dish out. Built-in shelving keeps tools and supplies organized, shatter-proof windows that open and lock and multiple skylights create a fresh and pleasurable mood.
This is the only model I tested that has a built in interior light, so you can get to all of your gear even after the sun goes down.  The slip resistant floor is also a nice feature as many other sheds in this class have much smoother flooring materials which can make slipping a real possibility.  The deadbolt locks are plastic, but still feel relatively secure.  If someone really wants to break into this shed, they’re going to find a way no matter how heavy duty a lock is installed.
There are several shelving options inside including a full width upper shelf, two smaller shelves and 2 corner shelves.  All provide great storage and keep items off the ground.

Backyard & Outdoor Shed Buyers Guide
Wooden Storage Sheds
These types of outdoor storage sheds are the classic old fashioned types of storage sheds and they can easily be added on as needed. Wooden outdoor storage sheds need to be well maintained because they are not safe from weather elements. The wood will need to be painted every few years and will need to be waterproofed to keep the items inside your shed safe and dry.
Plastic Storage Sheds
Because of the weather problems with wooden outdoor storage sheds many homeowners are choosing to buy sheds made of molded, thick plastic materials instead of wood. These plastic outdoor storage sheds are an excellent low cost outdoor storage shed option that needs very little upkeep. Plastic outdoor storage sheds are waterproof, and are specially treated to resist fading from the sun. This type of outdoor storage shed comes in easy snap together kits, and some even have features like pre-molded notches that will allow you to install your own wooden shelves.
Metal Storage Sheds
An inexpensive option is metal outdoor storage sheds. They usually come fully assembled or you can also buy do-it-yourself kits if you prefer. One of the negative benefits to metal is a tendency to get dented over time, and metal can rust with prolonged exposure to weather conditions. Because of this, vinyl outdoor storage sheds are becoming quite popular.
Vinyl Storage Sheds
For many people vinyl outdoor sheds are reasonably priced and maintenance free. They do not dent, rust or mildew, and vinyl outdoor storage sheds never need to be painted or waterproofed. They are easy to install and maintain and are resistant to most weather conditions.
While these sheds are great options, when buying an outdoor storage shed you need to consider the climate and area you live in before choosing one for your home. Some sheds hold up better in windy climates better than others, and others might hold up well under heavy snowfall. In selecting a shed you want to look at whether it will be functional and large enough for your growing needs while at the same time able to withstand your local climate, and attractive enough for you to look at day after day.
Other Things to Think About When Buying a Storage Shed
How much of the garden shed do you want visible?Any garden shed that is on display will ideally be presentable than a standard utilities shed.Matching your shed and house will complement your house and garden. It will not matter what materials you use to build your garden shed as much if it is going to be hidden away.A lattice screen would be good to hide the shed and grow plants on.
Bear in mind the amount of space you have available. It is pointless to plan for a shed that can hold a ride on mower, gardening tools and a motorbike if you don’t have the space.Try to manage keeping things in proportion.Ideally, ensure that you have good access to your shed. You want to avoid hitting your head when putting tools away or have difficulty getting to your lawnmower thanks to a hard to get to corner or the fence line being too close.
Types of Garden Sheds
Sheds can be prefabricated or custom-made. Prefabricated garden sheds are a convenient option and you can build these yourself if you desire, or have the garden shed manufacturing company install it for you, depending how confident you are.kit form sheds that are made from steel will be more durable and easier to maintain. Considering the steel of prefabricated sheds can be powder coated they are available in many different color options.Depending on your needs your shed is available with flat, gable and skillion roofing and styles and either one, two, three doors.
Detailed instructions will accompany the prefabricated or kit garden shed for you to easily understand. The construction of your shed is made easier with the walls and roof panels already complete.
Made to order garden sheds are more flexible and thus give you more room to move, design wise. They are able to be constructed from steel, stone or timber. This would allow you to correspond the design of the shed much more closely to your house, especially useful if you have any feature on the house which cannot be imitated on a normal kit shed.If you choose a timber shed it will need more maintenance than stone or metal shed but it has the alternative of using paints, oils or stains.Just ensure the wood you choose is appropriate for outdoor use.Steel garden sheds will be highly priced compared to others on the market but they will last a very long time.
If garden space is limited then you can purchase a storage unit that fits anywhere in the home and will still be big enough to store your tools and gardening equipment.Constructed from steel.Opting for a utility shed for your larger items such as a boat, trailer or car would be the best thing.Included with these is oversize door openings and a personal access door.Workshop sheds are ideal for any hobbies that need a lot of space, such as woodworkers or metalworkers or for storage or just for tinkering.
Trends for Storage Sheds
It is fashionable to partially conceal the garden or make it look like it has always been there.Ultimately you will need to plan and design it carefully to avoid the ‘standard metal shed’ look. All materials are an option, including pine, cedar and corrugated iron all being options.Woods such as pine and cedar are very flexible in that they are very good at creating a traditional look, right through to a beachy or modern look.Corrugated iron will give your garden shed a look that says it has been there longer than the garden itself.
The heritage shed is a new innovation that allows the customer to match the shed with their older, heritage-style homes, with matching finials and color schemes.
Finally, the backyard buddy is a great new innovation that allows people with less room to have a shed.If your looking for some storage fit into a small space then a Backyard Buddy is the perfect shed to use, made from steel with a lockable front roller door. Their width and depth are customizable to fit in even the most awkward area of the garden and they are available in a huge range of colors.

The Best Propane Gas Firepits for 2020 (Update)
I like to think of the fire pit as the heart of the backyard.  A place where friends and family can gather year round and enjoy good conversation over a cold beverage. With the right outdoor fireplace, you can also add an elegant focal point that will beautify your backyard space for years to come.
Choosing a high quality, outdoor gas powered fire pit for your yard is no easy task mind you.  There are dozens of options, styles and finishes available in both gas fire pits and wood burning fireplaces.
For this article, I wanted to test out a bunch of propane powered fire pits/ fireplaces that would work for nearly any backyard.  I chose several different styles and price points and came up with 5 picks that are the best options for adding some fire to your yard.
Here is a comparison table showing some of the main features of the fire pits I tested.
1. Legacy Heating Extruded Aluminum Fire Table (CDFP-S-CBmocha)
This Legacy unit also has one of the highest heat outputs of any of these fireplaces, with up to 50,000 BTUs of warmth. The included fire glass is clear and classy-looking.
All in all, it’s hard to find a major con to this unit. It’s easy to light, it produces plenty of heat, and it stays lit as long as I need it to. The price may be the only factor that could turn some folks away from this option, but it will last for many years, so it’s worth the investment if you’re looking for the best outdoor fireplace for the money.
Review Summary
The Legacy aluminum fire table is the Mercedes Benz of fire pits and my top pick. It’s made from high quality materials, absolutely cranks out the heat and comes with all of the accessories you need to start enjoying an outdoor fire right away. Yes, the price is high, like a Mercedes, but this is a fire table that will last for many, many years. You will spend many evenings enjoying a beautiful fire with this fireplace.
Top Features
High quality construction
High heat output
CSA Certified
Made of stainless steel and aluminum
Includes wind guard
Comes with cover
Attractive design
Easily turned into a regular table
Needs Improvement
High price
Heavy
  2. Cosco Outdoor Serene Ridge Aluminum Gas Fire Pit Table
The Cosco fire pit is a great mid-range choice for a superior quality backyard fireplace setup.. Right off the bat, it became one of my top choices when I discovered it was shipped as a fully assembled product (Love it!)— no assembly or tools required on my end. It’s not too heavy, either, so this is an ideal option for those who want a low-maintenance set-up.
This fire pit is attractive, with a compact minimalist design that will match a variety of color themes. It doesn’t take up too much room on the patio, and it works perfectly as a table when the fire isn’t lit.
The ignition is easy to light, and the flame usually stays on as long as needed. It’s easy to adjust the flame to a low or high level.
One downside to this unit is that the tiles are rather fragile, and become chipped easily. Since the fire pit is shipped as a fully assembled unit, that means that the tile can become slightly chipped during transit. However, I had a great experience with customer service, who promptly shipped a brand-new tile to replace the chipped one. It was a bit of a hassle, but the table looks great now.
Another smaller con is that this fire pit doesn’t come with any glass or stones, so those need to be purchased separately. It does come with a lid, however, and the fact that it comes fully assembled is hard to beat.  Check out some of the photos and specs of this fire pit below.
Review Summary
The Cosco Serene Ridge Fire Table is my favorite mid range fire pit that I had the chance to test.   The fact that it comes fully assembled is amazing and it looks stylish too.  The 40,000 BTU’s provide ample heat and the burners stay lit even with a mild breeze.   You will need to buy the glass or stones separate, but that’s not a deal breaker in my book. This is an affordable fire table that will look great on any patio.
Top Features
Fully assembled in the box
Attractive design
CSA Certified
Electric ignition
Good price point
Great customer service
Needs Improvement
Does not include glass or stones
Delicate tile
  3.  Agio Winchester Ourdoor Gas Fire Pit
The Agio Winchester outdoor fire pit is the priciest fire table that I tested, but with the higher price tag comes some amazing quality and features that are well worth the cost. This outdoor fireplace is high-end and dependable. The aesthetic alone feels expensive-looking — the surface is elegantly tiled with porcelain, and the aluminum base includes a hidden compartment to conceal the propane tank. With a low height of 24 inches, it could easily become the centerpiece of an outdoor patio area.
This unit comes with fire glass as well as a waterproof fabric cover to protect it from the elements. With a higher initial price, it’s nice that it comes with these two high-quality items included. The glass beads are colorful and reflective, and do not become charred with use.
It’s compatible with standard barbecue propane tanks, and it features an impressive heat output of 40,000 BTUs. The gas is easier to light than many low-end fireplaces, with a simple manual push button option. The flame does, however, sometimes need to be re-lit after a while.
With a listed burning time of nearly 11 hours, you won’t have to worry about this fireplace running out of fuel quickly. While I haven’t used it for quite that long, I can confirm that it lasts long enough to feed a large family’s appetite for s’mores. We used it all night with no noticeable difference in heat.
Review Summary
If the Legacy fire table I reviewed earlier was a Mercedes Benz, then the Agio Winchester is a Rolls Royce.  Yes, it’s expensive, but you will have a tough time finding a more attractive, high quality outdoor fireplace that will be the focal point of your backyard.  The Agio is easy to light with the push of a button.  It pumps out 40,000 BTUs and comes with the fire glass & weather cover.  If it’s within your budget, definitely put the Agio on your list of fire pit’s to consider.
Top Features
Simple push button to ignite flame
Includes glass stones
Weather cover included
Produces up to 40,000 BTUs of heat
Stylish, high-end appearance
Needs Improvement
Highest priced item on this list
  4. Endless Summer GAD1401M Gas Outdoor Fireplace
The Endless Summer fire pit is one of the most affordable yet high-quality outdoor gas fireplaces that I tested. Though it’s low in price, it includes everything that you need to get started, including lava rocks to cover the burner and a protective weather-proof cover. Just buy a standard 5-gallon propane tank and light it up.
The unit feels sturdy and durable, but it’s also lightweight enough that you can assemble it yourself without much trouble. It’s compact and attractive. On the other hand, unlike some of my other top picks, it wouldn’t work very well as a centerpiece for me. The surface area is too small to hold many drinks or plates, and there’s no cover for the burner — just a fabric cover to protect the entire unit. It’s better as a dedicated fireplace.
With a heat output of up to 30,000 BTUs, this fire pit doesn’t get as hot as some others. This could be a pro or a con, depending on your needs. If you’re looking for something to keep your patio warm during cold months, this probably isn’t the outdoor gas fireplace for you. If you need something with minimal heat for warmer weather, this fireplace is ideal.
This fire pit can also be a bit difficult to use at times, because getting the flame to stay on requires some finagling. Those difficulties are the exception rather than the rule, though it would be nice to have a seamless experience every time. In general, it’s pleasurable to use and well worth the money.
Review Summary
I wanted to include at least one fire pit that would work for just about anyone’s budget.  The Endless Summer GAD1401M is the perfect balance of quality and price. Sure it’s not as fancy as a couple of the other fireplaces I tested, but it puts out a fair amount of heat, has some room for drinks and looks nice as well.  You may have even seen this unit at Home Depot or Lowes as well.  If you are looking for an affordable way to add a fire centerpiece to your backyard, you won’t go wrong with the Endless Summer model.
Top Features
Made of weather-resistant steel
Lava rocks included
Comes with cover
Elegant look
Needs Improvement
Tricky to get the flame to stay lit when breezy
Not as much heat as other tested fireplaces
    5. AZ Patio Heaters GS-F-PC Propane Fire Pit
My last pick for the top 5 outdoor gas fireplaces is the AZ Patio Heater. It has a couple perks that make it a great choice. First, it’s extremely affordable. At a fraction of the cost of some of the other top choices, it’s a much more accessible gas fireplace.
Secondly, you can pay a bit extra to have it professionally installed. Though I didn’t opt for that route, it’s a very useful option for those who need to set it up alone or don’t have tools. This fireplace is incredibly heavy, so it’s nearly impossible to move it around without some help. With an extra hand or two, though, assembly was relatively easy.
This unit comes with glass beads, but they’re not very attractive-looking. It also doesn’t come with a cover of any kind. However, since the price is so low, you can splurge on some attractive glass or rocks and a nice sturdy cover.
The burner on this fireplace produces plenty of heat, and it’s compatible with standard barbecue propane tanks. The flame is easily adjustable. The surface is somewhat larger and taller than I was expecting for an outdoor fireplace, but it can still be used as a table when it’s not in use.
As a whole, this fireplace feels sturdy and durable. The paint, however, is another story. It looks rustic, but it’s easily tarnished by water. This should be an easy thing to prevent with some simple wax protectant, and given the low cost, it seems a worthwhile trade-off.
Review Summary
What I really liked about the AZ Patio Heaters fire pit was the solid construction and nice metal finish.  The top was prone to tarnishing, but that’s not uncommon with many of the metal fire pits like this one.  The glass beads aren’t the most attractive of the bunch, but the price tag on the AZ is very affordable, so you can easily afford to upgrade to nicer fire glass. The flame adjusts easy and puts out plenty of heat.  The table top also has a lot of room for drinks and other items.
Top Features
Affordable price
Classic, simple look
Produces 40,000 BTUs of heat
Glass beads included

Best Gas Fire Pit Buyer’s Guide
Fire pits make the perfect addendum to any yard’s landscaping. From making s’mores to making an delightful and intimate space for out of doors entertaining, they are as functional as they are stunning. While earlier models needed home owners to keep wood unfilled, more modern gas powered options make lighting an odor free fire simple, as well as as long as more control over the height of the flame. For those that are interested in installing a fire pit in their grass, the following advice can help you select the right one.
Even though most of the gas fire pits on the market today have many of the same features, it’s a good idea to educate yourself on a few of the details for what you should be looking at in a backyard firetable.  Take a second to read through this buyers guide and you’ll have no problem picking the right fire feature for your yard.
Turn Up The Heat
Just like with gas barbecues, the number of BTU’s (British Thermal Units) will decide how much heat your backyard fire pit can produce.  Most consumer grade fire pits will come in the 30K to 60K BTU range, which is completely ample for putting off a nice level of heat that anyone standing near the fire pit will feel and enjoy.
Style
The units I tested were all in the fire table style in varying shapes, but you can also choose a fire bowl or a mobile fire place that looks more like a traditional brick fire place.  There are many different materials to choose from as well, from aluminum to cast iron with or without decorative tiles etc.  The aesthetics of your lawn, and the amount of space unfilled to you, should be the first considerations in choosing a model that’s most suited to your space.
Attractive metal or slate models are excellent selections for homes with a modern aesthetic. Their clean lines and muted colors allow them to fit completely with refined outside furniture and spare, concrete hardscaping features. Those who live in a rather more rustic area, or whose lawn has a rather more natural feel, may need to deliberate fire pit frames that look as if they were made with uneven rocks or logs. This rustic look will give the feel of a cosy cabin right outside one’s door. Choose the fire pit that fits your eye and will compliment your backyard space.
Fuel
The fire pits I tested all run on a portable propane tank, the same kind as many propane bbq’s use.  However, you may choose to go with a wood burning fire pit, which can be more cost effective than having to refill propane tanks often.  Propane fire pits are clean and require little to no maintenance, while wood burning pits will require ash removal and take longer to get started/heat up.
Stones, Rocks & Glass
This is part style and part function, but the type of stone or glass you use with your fire pit will affect how much heat is produced as well as the look of your fire place.  Glass fire beads come in many different colors and shapes and have a clean, modern look.  Lava rock or stone will look more natural and generally help the fire put produce more heat.  Both are available for most firetable applications.
Other Considerations
If you plan on keeping your pit outside year round, definitely consider purchasing a high quality weather cover for your model.  It will keep it looking nice and performing it’s best for many years.  For safety, never use your fire pit close to walls or patio covers.  Try to place your pit on a fireproof surface such as concrete, stone or tile.  Never sit too close to the fire feature as your shoes and clothes can get hot fast and potentially catch fire.  Because most fire pits/tables are relatively low to the ground always be mindful of children that may accidentally get too close to the fire.

Wireless Bluetooth Speaker System Feature Comparison
Take a look at some of the product specs of the portable outdoor bluetooth speakers I reviewed.
If you’re going to be doing any serous entertaining in your back yard this summer, you’re going to want to crank some tunes. A portable outdoor bluetooth speaker system is exactly what you’ll need to get the party going and you don’t have to spend a fortune for a great sounding wireless speaker that also looks good and stands up to water and weather.
I got my hands on a dozen of the best bluetooth speakers that are in the $200 range and below. I picked my favorite 5 speakers based on sound quality, ease of set up, quality of construction, ergonomics and style.
You can definitely spend a lot more money on a portable speaker set up, but in my opinion there’s no need. There’s plenty of great units in this mid price range that will knock your socks off and have you enjoying hours of listening while you barbecue with friends and family or hang out by the pool. Check out the list below.
If you click on a link from this page and make a purchase, YardMasterz.com may earn a small commission from Amazon or other retailers.
Top Pick – OontZ Angle 3XL by Cambridge SoundWorks
My top pick from the wireless outdoor speakers that I tested is the Angle 3XL, one of the larger portable speakers offered by OontZ. As one of the most affordable options on the list (tied with the GGMM speaker), it’s certainly a good investment. It’s lightweight for its size and has all of the standard features a portable speaker needs.
The sound quality is good for a speaker at this price point, with plenty of clarity even at high volumes. With a built-in mic, this speaker can be used for phone calls or accessing voice assistants. It’s compatible with an Echo Dot.
Importantly, it’s also water resistant, so it’s safe for pool- or any backyard entertaining scenarios. However, it can’t be submerged in water, as it’s not fully waterproof. That’s not ideal, but it’s not a huge con.
This speaker offers around 8 hours of play time, though it may die in as few as 5 hours if you’re playing it at top volume. It can be played using a power cord, of course, but a longer battery life would be nice for a speaker like this.
Where this speaker really stands out, though, is in the volume at 20 watts of power. It has the capacity to get much louder than other speakers of similar size, and the difference is clearly noticeable. It would work perfectly for bringing to multiple outdoor events, since it’s easily portable yet packs a lot of sound into a small device.
Review Summary
I absolutely love the OontZ Angle 3XL…maybe even more than the Bose. This speaker can blast out the tunes and it doesn’t distort or lose any of the sound quality. It’s easily the loudest wireless speaker I tested. It’s water resistant, which is a plus for outdoor use. Connects to devices with ease and maintains a strong signal. The triangle design looks cool and it’s a very portable speaker than can go just about anywhere. I definitely recommend the Angle 3XL for all of your backyard speaker needs.
Top Features
Water resistant
Extremely loud volume
Built-in mic
Lightweight but medium-sized
Great sound quality
Needs Improvement
Not fully waterproof
Battery life only about 5 to 8 hours
 2. Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker II
This portable Bluetooth speaker from Bose was my next test. It’s on the other end of the spectrum from the Sound Link speakers in that it’s super compact and completely wireless, designed for carrying around from place to place easily. This speaker has a couple extra perks that I think is crucial in a Bluetooth speaker, though there are trade-offs.
Firstly, the speaker is built with a rechargeable battery that can be charged using a USB cord. It offers up to 8 hours of play time on one charge, which isn’t as much as some other brands though it’s still plenty enough for regular use. You can also play the speaker using USB power if the battery is running low.
The Bluetooth connectivity on this speaker is great — it’s consistent and rarely, if ever, spotty. The range is supposed to be around 33 feet, and that seems to hold true in my backyard testing.
Not only can you play music through Bluetooth, but you can also connect to digital voice assistants like Siri, Google or Alexa using the built-in mic on the Bose speaker. You can also use the speaker to make phone calls, although you may not want your phone call blasted across the room.
Speaking of the sound, this speaker has impressively rich, full sound for such a small speaker. That’s not surprising, considering that it’s a Bose product, but it’s still a nice bonus for a small, unassuming portable speaker like this one. The volume is loud without sacrificing sound quality.
One last perk of this speaker is that it’s water-resistant, so you can use it by the shower or pool without any problems. That’s a major plus in my mind, since bringing the speaker to the beach or pool is practically the whole point of buying an outdoor Bluetooth speaker!
This speaker is easy to use for the technologically-proficient, though the controls might be a bit tricky for some. In addition, the 8-hour battery life is likely not enough for those who want a speaker that can play background music all day long.
Review Summary
I love Bose speakers & audio gear. I’ve owned several Bose home speaker systems in the past and all of them were amazing. This little outdoor bluetooth speaker packs a whole lot of sound in a small package, which you’re used to with Bose. Great connectivity, high quality sound and a decent price tag. This is a cool little wireless speaker system that is sure to impress you as well.

 3. MacroBoom IP67 Bluetooth Speaker by RoamProof
The MacroBoom was definitely designed for rugged, outdoor use. It’s completely waterproof, has a fairly long battery life of 15 hours, and is able to be charged using solar power in addition to a regular USB connection. That’s a pretty unique set of features, and this speaker would be ideal for a weekend camping trip or day hike. It even comes with an included tote bag and carabiner in the package, along with a mount for attaching it to your trail bike.
Aside from these bonus features, this speaker is a good all-around performer. It has a built-in mic for taking phone calls. The generous battery life makes it easy to use without worrying about a dead speaker, though keep in mind that it’ll die sooner if you’re playing it at consistently high volume levels. It has slightly louder volume than you’d expect for a speaker of this size.
The sound quality is good. It’s clear throughout all volume levels and has plenty of bass. The Bluetooth connectivity is stable within range as well. If you plan to buy this for home use, you might buy a pair of two and connect them using the dual pairing feature.
I didn’t happen to take this speaker camping, but I did try out the solar charging feature. It does work, but predictably is slower than charging with a USB — a lot slower. It barely charged at all over the course of a full day of sun. It’s probably more of a back-up option for when a regular power source is unavailable.
The speaker is waterproof for up to 30 minutes of submersion in shallow water, so it’s easy to take it by the pool or beach without worrying about the occasional dunk. It’d also work well as an outdoor shower speaker.
Review Summary
The MacroBoom IP67 is one tough little bluetooth speaker system that has a TON of features. 15W output with 2×2.5″ Ti drivers cranks out the sound. Fully waterproof construction means this thing can literally go anywhere you go. The case is rugged and can take a beating. The only down side is the slow solar charging, but this bluetooth speaker performs great and is one of my favorites of the test.

 4. GGMM E5 Wireless Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa
The GGMM E5 speaker is one of the more sleek looking speaker systems of the bunch. It comes in a shallow rectangular square shape with a detachable leather strap, so you can carry it around like a tote bag if need be. It’s an easily-portable medium size, not too big and not too small.
This speaker offers about 15 hours of play time, depending on the volume. Unlike the other outdoor Bluetooth speakers on this list, the GGMM speaker offers Wi-Fi connectivity in addition to Bluetooth, which is convenient for saving on battery life. The Bluetooth connection is remarkably stable, while the Wi-Fi connection can introduce a slight lag at times depending on the quality of the internet connection.
The sound quality is great considering the low price. One perk is that there are bass and treble knobs, so you can adjust the sound to your own liking. The volume is typical for the size — it gets loud enough for your average low-key pool party.
This speaker comes with a built-in mic as well as an app for connecting to Amazon’s voice assistant service, Alexa. Using assistants like Alexa is so convenient — you can adjust the volume or change the song without having to get up and go to your phone. However, the app itself is not the most smooth or modern-feeling, and you do have to have an Amazon account to be able to use Alexa.
The other downside to this speaker is the lack of waterproofing or weatherproofing of any kind. I’d be nervous using it outdoors in an area where it may rain or fall into a body of water. But it’s totally portable, so you can bring it in when you’re not outside using it.
The set-up for this speaker is easy and fast. Since it’s reasonably priced, it’d be a good option for buying multiple speakers and placing one in each room.
Review Summary
The GGMM E5 is one of the best portable outdoor speakers on the market. It’s very sleek and clean looking with a beautiful matte finish and aluminum front grill. The fidelity is awesome from the 4x 5W driver and 2x subs, plus you can really crank the volume on this speaker without sacrificing sound quality. Other features like Alexa and a long battery life make this a top choice for great sounding, high quality portable bluetooth speakers that won’t break the bank.

 5. Pyle Wireless Bluetooth Weatherproof Speakers
The final set of speakers I checked out were the Pyle Bluetooth speaker. They are the largest of the bunch and comes in a pair of two. While it does offer a wireless Bluetooth option for playing music, the sheer size of the speakers requires that they use a corded power supply. Luckily, the power cord is 25 feet long, which is far longer than most people would need. The cord connecting each speaker is generous, too.
These speakers are “weatherproof,” but nowhere does Sound Appeal describe them as fully or partially waterproof, so I would hesitate to leave them out uncovered in a storm. For light drizzles, wind and other weather, however, they stay put and experience no damage. That makes them perfect for a porch or other covered-outdoor-area situation.
In terms of ease of use, you can’t get much easier than this. Simply plug them in and connect via Bluetooth. The sound is adequate for my needs, but on the other hand, they aren’t as loud as one would expect for speakers of this size. As for the quality of the sound, it’s well-balanced and clear. It’s great quality for the price.
Now for the downsides. The Bluetooth connectivity can be a bit spotty with these speakers if the source roams too far away, even though the range is supposed to be 60 feet. In addition, the large size makes them not quite as convenient for those who want a versatile speaker — they’re better for mounting in one spot permanently. They’d probably work well for those with a large property or those who like to throw large parties often.
If you decide to use them for that purpose, these are a good bargain. One recommendation is to plug them into a switched outlet rather than a standard one so that you’re able to turn the speakers on and off easily as needed. Reaching the volume switch could be a pain otherwise, especially if you mount them up high, which seems to be their intended use.
Review Summary
I wanted to include a set of outdoor wireless speakers that were meant to be mounted under an eve or in a fixed position and not in a portable unit. These speakers have excellent sound quality, are very simple to install and hook up to your bluetooth devices without any issue. Definitely consider these bluetooth speakers as an outdoor option for your patio or deck area. The price is very reasonable and you’ll be more than happy with the sound these produce.

Portable Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker Buyers Guide
While a lot of the portable wireless bluetooth speakers on the market my look very similar there are some different features that you will want to consider when purchasing a speaker system for your outdoor space. Here is a short wireless speaker buyer guide to help get you pointed in the right direction.
Speaker Sound Output & Volume
Since you’re probably going to be using your speaker system outdoors much of the time, you’ll want to get a unit that can perform well at higher volume levels if needed. This is especially important for parties and large gatherings where listeners may not be centrally located.
For this, you’ll want to pay attention to the output watts for the speakers you’re considering. Any speaker with 20+ watts is going to have enough power to play at higher volume levels. However, keep in mind that this not only drains the battery faster, but not all speakers will sound as good at higher listening levels. Of the speakers I tested, the Oontz Angle at 20W output performed very well at louder levels. Make sure you get enough watts to handle any listening level you may need.
Bluetooth or WiFi (Wireless)
While both bluetooth and wifi speakers connect without wires to their sound source, there are a few differences in the way they function that may be important to consider. Bluetooth speakers are generally battery powered, compact and very portable. The connection range is generally limited to about 30 feet, so you need your sound source relatively close by. A WiFi speaker connects to your home internet network connection and has a much greater range. You can also connect multiple speakers that can be located in different areas of your home or yard. Some wireless speakers have both bluetooth & WiFi capability, but make sure you get a unit that fits your particular needs.
Handling Weather & Water
Outdoor speakers need to be tough and durable. If you’re going to be using them by a pool or body of water, it’s a good idea to consider getting a model that’s at the very least water resistant. Some speakers like the MacroBoom IP67 are waterproof and can be submerged in shallow water without causing damage to the waterproof speaker system. Be sure to check the specs and ensure it’s listed as weatherproof or waterproof if you’re going to be using the system mainly outdoors.
Wireless Speaker Style Counts
You’re going to find portable bluetooth speakers in all shapes, sizes and colors. It’s entirely your call which look you want to go with for your portable backyard speaker system. You can get slim units, boxes, tubes, triangles and even eggs & circles. The shape you pick will affect the sound and the portability of the unit. So keep that in mind before you buy.
Bluetooth Speakers Inputs & Connections
Nearly all speaker models will have aux inputs that will allow you to connect televisions, portable video & audio players. Some will also have USB ports so you can charge other devices or connect to other devices via a standard USB cable. As for outputs, if you want to add an additional speaker or sub-woofer to your bluetooth system, these outputs will allow you to do that with ease. { "@context": "https://schema.org/", "@type": "Product", "name": "Best Outdoor Portable Bluetooth Speakers 2020", "image": "https://www.yardmasterz.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Screenshot_2019-10-10-Best-Outdoor-Wireless-Bluetooth-Speakers-2019-Updated-YardMasterz-com.png", "description": "Oontz Angle 3XL Ultra: Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Enhanced Bass 24 Watts Power Louder Volume Superior Sound, 100ft Wireless Range, Play Two Together Music in Awesome Dual Stereo IPX5 Splashpro", "brand": "OontZ Angle 3XL by Cambridge SoundWorks", "mpn": "OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA Black", "offers": { "@type": "Offer", "url": "https://amzn.to/2qkDLMa", "priceCurrency": "USD", "price": "99.99", "priceValidUntil": "2019-11-12", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "itemCondition": "https://schema.org/NewCondition" }, "aggregateRating": { "@type": "AggregateRating", "ratingValue": "4.5", "bestRating": "5", "worstRating": "1", "ratingCount": "445", "reviewCount": "1" }, "review": { "@type": "Review", "name": "Christian Rogers", "reviewBody": "My top pick from the wireless outdoor speakers that I tested is the Angle 3XL, one of the larger portable speakers offered by OontZ. As one of the most affordable options on the list (tied with the GGMM speaker), it's certainly a good investment. It's lightweight for its size and has all of the standard features a portable speaker needs. The sound quality is good for a speaker at this price point, with plenty of clarity even at high volumes. With a built-in mic, this speaker can be used for phone calls or accessing voice assistants. It's compatible with an Echo Dot. Importantly, it's also water resistant, so it's safe for pool- or any backyard entertaining scenarios. However, it can't be submerged in water, as it's not fully waterproof. That's not ideal, but it's not a huge con. This speaker offers around 8 hours of play time, though it may die in as few as 5 hours if you're playing it at top volume. It can be played using a power cord, of course, but a longer battery life would be nice for a speaker like this. Where this speaker really stands out, though, is in the volume at 20 watts of power. It has the capacity to get much louder than other speakers of similar size, and the difference is clearly noticeable. It would work perfectly for bringing to multiple outdoor events, since it's easily portable yet packs a lot of sound into a small device. Review Summary I absolutely love the OontZ Angle 3XL…maybe even more than the Bose. This speaker can blast out the tunes and it doesn't distort or lose any of the sound quality. It's easily the loudest wireless speaker I tested. It's water resistant, which is a plus for outdoor use. Connects to devices with ease and maintains a strong signal. The triangle design looks cool and it's a very portable speaker than can go just about anywhere. Greenworks 25022 20-Inch Lawn Mower Review
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Greenworks 25022 20-Inch Side Discharge Lawn Mower
by James Huntley | Updated 11/14/19
The Greenworks 25022 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Bag Mulch Side Discharge Lawn Mower is an electric powered lawn mower which produces zero pollution. This quiet mower doesn’t require gas, oil or batteries.
This mower is as useful and effective as any gas operated mower. Its 12-amp motor gives enough power to cut 20 inch wide grass.
Its flip flop handle does the job smoothly. The handle bar is built from metal, unlike plastic built handles in many other mowers. The metal handle bar gives much better grip and would not skid like plastic built handles do. It also has a folding mechanism. The height adjustment system of this mower is also better than that in most other popular lawn mower brands.
The Greenworks 25022 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Bag Mulch Side Discharge Lawn Mower comes with 4 years of parts and labor warranty.
The Greenworks 25022 has a different kind of blade design, and it does the grass cutting job more effectively than its predecessor models. The mower does wonders on both small and thick lawn.
Greenworks 25022 is a maintenance free machine and does the operation silently. It would not generate any smoke like gas motors – in fact, the entire product range of Greenworks is well known for its zero carbon emission features.
In addition to that, it also has a far better standard warranty (four years) – almost double its predecessors. This is a clear proof of its quality.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Packed with seven positions, single lever height adjuster system, the Greenworks 25022 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Bag Mulch Side Discharge Lawn Mower is ideal for mulching grass. The grass collection bag is ideally fitted, and the plastic made front and rear tires mow in lawn smoothly.
The specially designed cord lock feature stops cord disconnection. The cord has a button for turning the motor on and off. Cam lock on the handle makes the Greenworks 25022 easily folding and portable.  Extension cord is NOT INCLUDED with this electric lawn mower.
It cuts even a high lawn very easily through its single, powerful blade. Its 20 inch grass cutting ability makes mowing an easy task. The metal handle bar gives it smooth handling that is far better than a plastic handle. Being light, the Greenworks 25022 is easy for everyone to use, men, women, teenagers, seniors etc.
The ability to adjust its height makes it flexible for users of any height.
 One reviewer says,
“It cuts the grass so effectively that I don’t need to mow before 12 days. Our gas powered mower was bulky and heavier which was a pain in mowing in the small lawn. The Greenworks 25022 is lighter in size and very quite, so does the grass cutting job smoothly.””The 20 inch deck is the biggest advantage offered to us. You don’t need to visit the gas station frequently which is a big advantage for this any lawn owner, most suitable for flat garden. Being an electric powered machine it does not pollute our green atmosphere.”
Another user says, “It requires less maintenance as compared to a gas powered lawn mower. The one push safety button gives you a lot of peace of mind.”

How to Safely Sharpen Your Lawn Mower Blade
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
How to Safely Sharpen Your Lawn Mower Blade
by James Huntley | Updated 11/14/19
When your lawn mower blade gets dull, it has to be either replaced or sharpened. Some newer mower types have blades that should not be sharpened and if the old blade is bent or broken it should absolutely be replaced for a new one.
You should never try to sharpen a blade on the mower. It is almost impossible to do and can be dangerous.
To prevent the engine from accidentally starting when I work under the mower deck, I always remove the wire from the spark plug and bend it away so it can not come into contact with the spark plug. Manually turning the mower blade could ignite the engine, even with the fuel valve in OFF position.
You might have to empty the fuel tank before you tilt the mower to remove the blade. You should at least turn the fuel valve to OFF position.
Now, tilt the mower on the side with the fuel tank facing up. Find a suitable wrench for the blade bolt. Wear a thick glove, holding the blade stable while you loosen the blade bolt.
The blade bolts are usually threaded in opposite direction with the blade revolution. To loosen the bolt You should move the outer end of the wrench towards the cutting edge of the blade.
amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "false"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "yardmasterz-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "search"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "Shop Related Products"; amzn_assoc_default_search_phrase = "Lawn mower blades"; amzn_assoc_default_category = "All"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "c2379d875c12747ac759a7b8996cd787";
Here we have the blade removed and the bolt with two washers. This blade has no support holes and is only held in place by the big washer that is concave and builds up a great pressure when the bolt is tightened.
You should mark which side is down on the blade and then clean it carefully before you start to sharpen it cause you have to balance it afterwards and any buildup gives you incorrect balance.
This blade is very dull and has dents from hitting stones on the lawn. It should actually be replaced, but I decided to try if I could sharpen it and use it one more month.
I put the blade in a vice and use a grinder to sharpen it. The edge should be made about 30 deg from horizontal. Don’t put too much pressure on the grinder. Just make a slight cut in each pass and repeat it several times. The cutting edge of the blade is relatively short, all inside the oval circle on the picture.
If you need to remove lot of metal to make a good edge, the blade becomes very warm. You should allow the blade to cool down between passes to avoid hardening.
When you finish sharpening the blade has to be balanced. Make sure that the center hole of the blade is clean and apply little bit of oil to it for lubrication. Put a screwdriver in the vice or just hold it horizontally and place the blade on it as shown.
If the balance is correct the blade stays like that. If one end is heavier the blade will turn and the end facing down has to be ground more and the balancing repeated.

Lawn Mower Comparison Guide

Lawn Mower Comparison Guide
by Mark Madsen | Updated 10/25/19
Comparing Lawn Mower Types
Given the wide variety of lawn mowers available – there are literally hundreds of different types to choose from – you should think carefully before you buy. Take a close look at your lawn and your needs before you begin the process of purchasing a mower.
If you’re purchasing a new mower for your new home, be sure to figure out how much lawn you have. Figure out the square footage of all the lawn you’ll be mowing; most lawn mower recommendations are based on lawn size in square feet, or even acres if your lawn is larger.
If you’re replacing your old lawn mower, you might already have a good idea of what type is best for you and which you prefer.
Here are some things to consider:
1. Take a good look at your lawn. Walk around the yard and determine what obstacles you might have to deal with. Are there trees, shrubs, walls, stones, ponds? If so, an electric cord mower could be problematic as the trees and walls will inhibit your movement.
Is your lawn smooth or uneven? Is it level or on a slope? Self-propelled mowers are easier to use on slopes, but a push mower is the best choice for an uneven lawn.
2. Take a critical look at yourself. Do you like getting some exercise from mowing your lawn or do you see it at just more work? Would you feel comfortable changing oil and spark plugs on your mower or would you like to dispel with such work? If you don’t like mowing and don’t like maintenance work, you should consider buying a good-quality mower that does the job quickly. You might even want to consider hiring a gardener to do your mowing.
3. How much are you willing to spend? Will you be living in the same house in 5 years? Are you prepared to spend more to get a high-quality mower or do you prefer a less expensive but also less reliable one? When you buy a new lawn mower, you do get what you pay for.
Reel Mowers
Reel mowers are quiet, inexpensive and nonpolluting. When you push a reel mower, it turns a cylinder of curved blades against a stationary knife and cuts the grass a lot like a pair of scissors would. The mower is safe to operate and needs virtually no maintenance for years other than periodic blade adjustment. You should not have to sharpen the blades for years.
Reel mowers are made for small, flat lawns up to a quarter-acre in size. They are not suitable for high grass.

Electric/Battery Powered Mower
If the grass area on your yard is small, you mostly have trees and flowers or your lawn is divided into a front and back yard, you should consider an electric mower. Electric mowers are quite similar to gas push mowers except that an electric motor is replacing the gas engine. Under the motor there is a cutting blade and the cutting width is slightly narrower than with a gas mower.
Electric mowers are light and quiet and easy to use. The only thing to worry about is the electric cord; you’ll have to use this to run your mower so it should not be longer than about 100 feet.  If you don’t want to deal with the cords, consider going with a battery powered lawn mower, which can normally run about 45 minutes to 1 hour on a full battery charge.  They’re just as powerful as some gas powered mowers and they’re friendly on the environment.

Gas Push Mowers
Gas-driven push mowers are still the most common lawn mowers for homeowners.
They have a gasoline engine sitting on top of the mower deck, turning the horizontal blade. Gasoline engines have improved over the years – they are less noisy than they used to be, but they are still loud enough to wake the neighbors on a Saturday morning and they still pollute the air.
Push mowers don’t have driven motors so they have to be pushed over the lawn. There are many brands to choose from and I have spent a lot of time comparing mowers in this category; keep in mind you get what you pay for. Push mowers like this are best for lawns up to half an acre in size. I highly recommend a mulching mower.
Click here to read about my recommended Gas Push Mowers.
Self Propelled Walk Behind Mower
If your lawn is larger than a half an acre or it’s hilly, you should seriously consider a self-propelled mower. Their front or rear wheels are driven from the engine, usually with a variable speed control.
These mowers are easier to push and use and they are suitable for carrying clipping bags that would be very heavy to handle with a push mower. Rear wheel drive mowers have more traction on hills, but front wheel drive mowers have better maneuverability in corners if you push the handle down and lift the front wheels while turning.
Self-propelled mowers are often bigger and heavier than push mowers. On the other hand, you can get the job done faster and on some models you can enjoy great features like electric starters.
Click here to read about my recommended Self Propelled Mower.
Riding Mowers
Riding mowers, also called garden tractors, are great for lawns bigger than ½-acre in size and comprised of any kind of grass.
A ride-on mower will cost you quite a bit more than a walk-behind mower, so be sure to consider your needs and how often the mower will be used if you are considering a riding mower.
Although a riding lawn mower is a larger investment than other mowers, they have distinct advantages over smaller models. Certainly, one benefit is the riding feature – great for a hot day with a lot of lawn that needs mowing. They can mulch or side-discharge the lawn clippings.
Robot Mower – Automatic Mower
The newest trend in gardening is certainly the Automatic Robot Lawn Mower. This new mower, also called a “robomower”, literally does the work for you. They can mow the lawn during the night and then return to their charging station when the battery gets low.
The benefits of robot mowers are numerous. You don’t have to push or ride a mower to get your lawn mowed, you don’t have to deal with clippings, you free up some of your precious weekend time, and the mulch it creates is a healthy alternative to your lawn over fertilizer.

Top 5 Cordless Mowers We Reviewed
So you’re shopping around for the best battery lawn mower for your buck? The new generation of cordless, battery powered lawn mowers aren’t your Daddy’s old mower. These beauties pack power, style and some cool tech into an otherwise boring piece of gear that sits in your garage 99% of the time. Let’s face it, lawn mowers aren’t the sexiest of backyard tools. At least for me, they bring back nightmares of having to mow the yard as a kid when I’d rather be out doing something fun with my friends. If you are going to blow a few hundred bucks on a tool, wouldn’t a nice chain saw or nail gun be a lot more rewarding?
There are a lot of models & options available, so we put together our list of the best cordless lawn mowers that won’t break the bank, but will still get your lawn looking amazing.
TOP PICK – GreenWorks 25223 G-MAX 40V 19-Inch Cordless Lawn Mower
The GreenWorks Model 25223 mower came as the #1 lawn mower pick for 2019/2020. It has a bunch of amazing features that any homeowner will love. GreenWorks is a relatively newcomer to the home & yard care industry, but don’t let that bother you. They make an extremely high quality product which can be seen in the 25223 mower. With this lawn mower you get two 40V lithium ion batteries and charger (same as the B&D model above). You also have a 7 way, single lever grass height adjustment which can handle even the tallest grass. 3 in 1 bagging, mulching & discharge ability.
The handle collapses for easy storage and transportation. This model has a 19″ cutting width and weighs in at only 53.1 pounds, which makes it very easy to push and maneuverable around borders and other objects. This mower has over 2 hours of charge time and has enough power to tackle just about any lawn. The GreenWorks Pro 25223 also has power adjusting technology which senses the grass height and increases or decreases power as needed to help save the battery. With 69% 5 star ratings at Amazon, others also agree that this is a solid lawn mower, with plenty of power on tap. A bonus is if you already own a leaf blower by GreenWorks, the batteries are the same. Sweet!
Review Summary
Even though the company is newer to the market, I really like the GreenWorks Pro 25223 G-Max. I was impressed by the power through thicker grass as well as the longevity of the 2 lithium ion batteries. It’s very nimble due to the lower weight which makes mowing 800+ sq/ft a breeze. This unit is very comparable to the B&D unit above. The price is a bit higher, but I could honestly go with either unit and be completely satisfied.
Top Features
Only 53.1 pounds
10″ rear wheels
2 40V lithium ion batteries + charger
Over 2 hours charge time
7 level height adjustment
SmartCut Technology
4 year limited warranty
Needs Improvement
Not self propelled
#2 WORX WG774 Intellicut 20″
I’ve had very good experiences with the WORX brand products in the past. I’ve owned a WORX leaf blower back in 2018 as well as a hedge trimmer. Both have been going strong for over a year now so I was excited to test out the WORX WG774 Intellicut 56V.
WORX did right by me, so I was sure this lawn mower would perform just as well as their other gear, and I was right.
The WORX has all of the features you would expect in a quality cordless lawnmower in this price range. It comes with 2 56V batteries and charger that will let you cut up to 9,400 sq/feet of lawn. It features a 2 in 1 mulching and rear bagging option and easily folds down into a compact unit for easy storage. I was able to mow relatively tall grass with ease and got about 50 minutes of run time. I even let the kids push it around and they didn’t struggle, even in thicker grass.
One of the cool things that I haven’t seen on other lawn mowers is the wash out port. You can literally hook up a hose to the port and it will clean under the deck, removing all of the grass clipping debris that accumulates. I love this feature. You can use the “Turbo Mode” for an extra boost of power, but keep in mind you’ll run through the batteries fast if you use Turbo too much.
The WORX weighs in at about 65 pounds, which is pretty average. Unfortunately, this unit isn’t self propelled, so if you have hilly areas to cut, it will likely be a bit of work with this mower. But for flat yards, this lawn mower performs great. A 3 year manufacturers warranty is included. And if all this wasn’t enough, it’s got a awesome looking design, which you all know I like.
Review Summary
I really like all of the features of the WORX WG774. It’s easy to push and maneuver, has decent battery length and good power. It would be nice to see larger bag capacity, but for small to mid sized lawns, this is a solid choice. The price is under $500, which is great for a dual 56V battery powered lawn mower.
Top Features
19″ actual cut width
(2) 56V batteries + charger
Ultra lightweight at only 65lbs
3 year tool warranty
1 hour mow time
Easy mow height adjustment
One of the quieter mowers tested
Steel Deck
Fully collapsible for quick storage
Needs Improvement
Doesn’t bag wet grass well
Not self propelled
Mulching drains battery fast
#3 Black & Decker CM2043C 20″ Cordless Mower
Black & Decker has been making high quality, affordable power tools and equipment since 1910 and the CM2043C cordless lawnmower is no exception. While this mower is a bit on the higher end price wise, I really like the features packed into this model.
You get two 40v MAX lithium ion batteries, which gives you plenty of run time to get your lawns mowed without having to sprint around the yard hoping it charge. The variable speed motor does an excellent job in conserving battery life which extends the run time. This model also features mulching, side ejection and bagging. The height adjustment is very simple, with 6 settings that can cut from 1.5″ to 4″ and handle all varieties of grass.
Did I mention that this lawn mower can actually sense the thickness of the grass and adjust the power when it needs more juice for the really thick stuff or drop the power for lighter grass. Again, this conserves battery life, which is a brilliant feature. If you’re tired of gas powered mowers and gummed up carburetors that never start when you need them, the Black & Decker CM2043C is one of the premier mowers on the market.
Review Summary
The Black & Decker CM2040 is light weight, has a long run time at 2.5 hours, comes with a couple lithium ion batteries and is powerful enough to handle nearly any residential yard work. This mower isn’t going to mow your 10 acre ranch, but it will get your lawns looking nice without breaking your back or your bank. Definitely put this model on your short list of mowers to consider.
Top Features
Comes with two 40V lithium ion batteries
2.5 hour run time
20 inches of wide cutting path
AutoSense grass height tech
2 year limited warranty
Brushless Motor
59 lbs
Needs Improvement
A little more expensive than other models in it’s class
#4 EGO Power+ 21 Inch 56-Volt Lithium-ion Mower
You’ve probably seen some of the commercials on TV for the EGO line of cordless yard equipment, including the EGO Power + cordless lawn mower. The first thing I thought when I saw the advertisement was how cool and modern the mower looked. They did a very nice job on the aesthetics of the EGO Power+ mower. So much so that it makes you want to go mow the grass (ok, maybe it’s not that cool looking). But it does have some style, that’s for certain. This model is self-propelled, so you will have no problem mowing hilly yards and thicker grass.
As for features and performance, it’s extremely quiet, has a good bit of power(600w High Torque motor) and features a 56V Lithium-ion battery which gives you up to 2 miles of mowing time. This mower folds up into a very compact unit that makes storage a breeze. If you’re like me, where garage space is at a premium, you’ll be more than satisfied with how little space this mower need when folded down.
A few other cool items to note are the 5 year tool / 3 year battery warranties. LED headlights for those times when you just have to mow your lawn at 2:00am, and multi-adjust height settings for getting the perfect cut.
Review Summary
Cool looking design, solid battery life and enough power to handle nearly any backyard make this one of my top battery power lawn mower choices. The 5 year warranty is a nice bonus as well. The price is about what you would expect for a 21″ cordless mower, but the single battery and tendency to clog under tall grass bring the EGO Power + down a notch. Still a great mower for the price and features plus it has excellent reviews on Amazon.
Top Features
21 inches cut width
Self-propelled
56V lithium ion battery
Compact folding capability
Weather resistant construction
Rapid battery charger included
Mulching, bagging or discharge capability
30% less noise than gas powered mowers
5 year tool warranty / 3 year battery warranty
Needs Improvement
Only 1 battery included
Heavier than other models in it’s class
Has a tendency to get clogged when mowing very high grass
#5 Snapper XD SXDWM82K 21 Inch Cordless Mower Kit
I’m thoroughly impressed with nearly all of the goodies included with the Snapper XD. This lawn mower is a beast and while it’s a little more expensive, in the $450 range, if you have some serious mowing to do, and don’t want to go with a gas lawn mower, definitely put the Snapper XD on your short list of lawn mowers to consider.
So you get about 45 minutes mow time from two Briggs & Stratton 82V Lithium-ion batteries, which is more than enough to handle most residential lawn mowing applications. The a batteries charge very quickly, so even if you do run out of battery power, you don’t have to wait long to get enough charge to finish your mowing job.
This unit is one of the heavier models I reviewed, coming in at 90 pounds, but it still considerably lighter than most gas powered models and relatively easy to maneuver. One Amazon purchaser said that even his 10 year old daughter could push the lawn mower with ease. However, I would like to see them make a self-propelled version of this mower, just to help a little with the additional weight.
The ergonomics of this lawn mower are great and it looks cool too (that’s important right?) It’s very comfortable to push and it folds up nicely for storage. Neighbors have commented on how quiet it is compared to the old, gas lawn mower I had for years. It’s nice to know that there’s less noise pollution in the neighborhood.
Another nice perk is that there’s a full Snapper yard care system that includes a leaf blower, chain saw, hedge trimmer & weed edger. They all use the same battery system, so it’s a 100% interchangeable system.
Review Summary
The Snapper XD is a serious player in the cordless lawn mower game. It has a ton of power from dual 82V lithium ion batteries and 45 minutes of run time. With easy push button starting and 7 lawn height adjustment settings, you can take down even the tallest grass. This unit is extremely quiet, which will make the neighbors happy and it folds into a very compact size for easy storage. The Snapper XD made my top 5 battery lawn mower least with ease and has solid reviews on most of the popular shopping sites.
Top Features
21″ cut width with 3 in 1 bag, discharge, mulch options
45 minute run time
(2) Briggs & Stratton 82V Lithium Ion 2.0Ah batteries
Push button start & 7 position cut height adjustment
Extremely quiet
Brushless Motor
Compact folding for vertical storage
Needs Improvement
Heavier than other models at 90 lbs
Best Self Propelled Mower – Greenworks 21-Inch M-210-SP Self-Propelled
The M-210-SP is one of the latest self propelled battery powered mowers from Greenworks. It features a durable 21″ steel deck which will allow you to tackle big lawns with ease. With this lawn mower you get a quiet brushless motor that has tons of torque and a long life. The 3 in 1 design of this mower allows you to easily rear bag, mulch, or side discharge your grass clippings. A great feature you won’t find from many other manufacturers is the dual battery port, which allows you to store one battery, while the 2nd battery powers the mower. When one battery runs low, you have battery number 2 ready to roll, saving you a trip back to the garage.
Other cool features include an onboard USB port for charging cell phones, tablets and devices. The M-210-SP has SmartCut technology which automatically adjusts the cutting height depending on the height of the lawn. Easy push button start is nice as well. When you’re all done, this model folds up into a small footprint for vertical storage. Obviously the self-propelled feature is the main allure for this particular mower. At 70lbs, you don’t even notice the weight, even when mowing thick grass.
This package comes with one 40V Greenworks battery and rapid charger. The 40V GMAX battery is interchangeable with the full line of Greenworks 40V tools, including hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, edgers and snow throwers. You can expect to get about 40 minutes of run time on a fully charged battery and batteries will rapid charge in approximately 30 minutes. Like all Greenworks battery lawn mowers, you get a 4 year warranty on the machine and 2 year warranty on the battery/charger. Yes, the price tag is a bit hefty, but you’re getting a solid self propelled mower in the Greenworks M-210-SP. You’ll be glad you spent a little more on the self propelled model.
Best Mower for Large Yards – Yard Force YF120vRX Lithium-Ion 22” 3 in 1 Mower
WOW! Right out of the gate the Yard Force YF120vRX 22″ self propelled mower is a MONSTER. This unit boasts a 120vRX brushless motor that has torque and power for days. So much so that you’ll think you’re using a gas powered mower which is exactly what you need if you’re going to be mowing larger yards. What makes this mower especially effective for big yards up to 1/2 acre is the dual battery port, which let’s you run for over 100 minutes when the twin 120v Lithium Ion batteries are at full charge. You can recharge a battery in about 30 minutes and be back on the job in no time. This package comes with the mower, (2) 120v Li batteries and the quick charger.
As for the mower construction, it is rock solid and heavy at 109lbs. But don’t let the weight of this cordless lawn mower scare you. The self propelled motor makes pushing this unit through tall grass a breeze. The 22″ steel deck converts from bagging, to mulching, to side discharge with no hassle at all and the bag release is smooth and easy. The YF120vRX has easy push button start, single lever mow height adjuster and a quick release adjustable folding handle. Speaking of folding, this model folds down to 70% of it’s normal size. This makes storage in your garage or shed so easy. So the bottom line with the Yard Force is that if you have some serious lawn to cut, I’m talking in the 1/2 acre or more range, this beast will handle it without issue. You’ll think you’re using a gas mower with all the power on tap. You’ll find the price tag to be on the higher end, but let me tell you that you’re getting so much bang for the buck with this model, that you’ll quickly forget about the price once you start mowing down the back 40 of your property at record speeds.
Best Battery Riding Mower – Ryobi 38 in Electric Rear Engine Riding Lawn Mower RY48111
If you have an extremely large area of lawn to maintain, having a riding mower is essential. If you also like the convenience and simple maintenance of a battery operated mower, you’re going to love the Ryobi 38″ electric rear engine riding mower. While there are still not a lot of options for battery riding mowers, Ryobi has a winner on it’s hands with the RY48111. This model looks like a hybrid of a riding mower and dune buggy. Don’t let the looks fool you as this mower can handle seriously tough lawns..hills and all.
If you’re worried about the battery life, don’t. You will get 2.5 hours run time from the 48V 100 Ah battery, which will let you mow approximately 2.5 acres of lawn. To charge the mower, simply plug it into any standard 120v outlet. Some of the other features included with this lawn mower are LED headlights, USB phone charger, cruise control, 38″ dual blade deck and 12 position manual deck adjustment. According to other owners, you can safely take this mower on 10-15% inclines without spinning the wheels. At 595 pounds, you will want to avoid soft or wet areas of your yard. You will easily leave some major tire tracks in the ground or even get stuck. Just something to be aware of.
If you choose to go with this Ryobi, you’ll not only have a reliable machine that can handle even the largest mowing jobs, but you’ll be helping the environment by removing the harmful gas fumes produced by traditional riding mowers. It’s definitely a big investment, but riding mowers have never been cheap. In comparison to equivalent gas riding mowers, the Ryobi is a value and one you should consider.
Best Robotic Lawn Mower – Husqvarna AUTOMOWER 315
If you’re all about new “smart” technology then a robotic lawn mower just might be what you need to keep your lawn looking great while you sit back and watch the football game. Can you image how much time you’ll have for activities when you let your new robot mower handle the yard care duties? Believe me, it’s got my attention as well. So here’s the specs and details for this Husqvarna model. The AutoMower 315 weighs about 20 pounds and has a 70 minute mow time on full charge. You can charge the battery in one hour. The 315 can be adjusted to cut the lawn from 0.8″ to 2.4″. The max incline this mower can handle is approximately 22 degrees.
To set things up, you will need to have boundary wires installed around your yard either by yourself or an authorized installer. These keep the mower on your property. After all, you don’t want to be mowing your neighbors yard right? You will also need to install the Connect@Home app on your mobile device. From there you can set and adjust the mowing schedule. The Bluetooth connectivity works up to 100 feet. Next, the Automower will train itself to learn your yard so it can smartly mow your lawn perfectly every time. The grass clippings are cut very fine and act as natural fertilizer for your grass. No bags to empty or endless raking.
The Automower is so quiet you can schedule it for night mowing without bothering the neighbors. Imagine waking up to a gorgeous lawn after a good nights sleep. Rain or shine, the Husqvarna AutoMower will keep your yard looking amazing while you spend your free time doing the things you enjoy.
Cordless Lawn Mower Buyers Guide
Even though most of the cordless lawn mowers on the market today are very similar, it’s a good idea to educate yourself on a few of the details for what you should be looking at in a new battery mower. Take a second to read through this buyers guide and you’ll have no problem picking the right lawn mower for your lawn.
Battery Voltage & Run Time
You probably noticed that there are some different battery voltages in the units I reviewed above. Anywhere from 40V up to 84V. So does this mean the 84V battery will last twice as long as a 40V battery? Not necessarily, while you will get more run time from the larger voltage battery, the voltage is similar to the horsepower of the lawnmower. The higher voltage battery, the more power the electric engine can produce. The higher voltage lawnmowers will generally cost more than lower voltage models, so take that into consideration when choosing a model.
Mower Blade Cut Width
This is fairly self explanatory. A 19″ cut width will cut less grass in a single pass than a 21″ cut width. While this may not seem like much, it’s usually best to get the most cut width you can afford, but don’t sacrifice battery voltage or other nice features just for the larger cutting width.
Lawn Mower Weight
This can be a big deal, especially for homeowners who are older or not able to push a traditional, heavy gas powered mower. Most of the cordless mowers weigh between 40 an 90 pounds, and you will notice the difference in weight after pushing it for 30 minutes, especially in thicker grass. A mower in the 50-60 pound range will be powerful, yet light enough for just about anyone to use without problem.
Single vs. Dual Blades
This comes down to personal preference really. The only mower I tested with dual blades was the Poulan and it performed nicely, but not any better than the single blade models. This was the first dual blade lawnmower that I had ever used, but I don’t think it’s a “must have” feature. More importantly is keeping your blades sharp. Using a mower with a dull blade will look like you tried to mow your lawn with butter knife.
Corded Lawn Mowers vs. Cordless Mowers
Electric Lawn Mowers
The big issue for corded electric lawn mowers is having to deal with that power cable. The cable clearly limits just how far you can you can go from your power source. Also if you have trees, shrubs and garden ornaments to navigate around then this becomes increasingly difficult with a cable trailing behind you. To increase your range you could use an extension cable, but this has serious safety implications in that it increases the risk of running over and accidentally cutting the cable. Also makes it more likely that your cable will become tangled up along the way.
Cordless Electric Lawn Mowers
Cordless electric lawn mowers have no such limitations. You just have to make sure that your battery is fully charged and you can mow away without having to worry about an electric cable. The range of your mower will be limited of course by how long the battery will hold its charge; the premium lawnmowers have batteries that will allow it to mow a third of an acre from a single charge. If your lawn is larger than this then you could purchase a model where you can remove the battery. This then gives you the option of buying a second battery to increase the range of the mower; simply swap over the batteries when the charge of the first one has run down.
Having a battery on board does increase the weight of the lawn mower slightly, but they’re still very easy to push along.

Toro 51619 Ultra Leaf Blower Review
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Toro 51619 Ultra Blower Review
by James Huntley | Updated 11/12/19
For those who want a corded leaf blower, the Toro Ultra Blower Vac is a standout model. Owners and experts say it has a lot of power. It’s also effective at sweeping up wet and dry leaves, clippings and other debris. The metal impeller is larger than in the past and is considered effective at shredding. Though most say it’s easy to handle, the few negative user reviews we spotted include complaints that the Toro is heavy. Some say the leaf bag can be awkward to handle, and a few say that it doesn’t hold up as well as the rest of the machine.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Specs:
Type: Electric leaf blower
Power: Corded, 120 volts
Airflow: Speed: 250 mph; volume 410 cfm
Weight (pounds): 8.5
Noise level (decibels): 68
Warranty: 2 years
Durability
Solid internal components. To finely mulch leaves and twigs, the Toro Ultra Blower Vac uses a metal impeller with serrated shredding blades, a durable design that’s preferred by experts. The mulch bag and zipper aren’t as long lasting, according to user reviews. This is a new model so long-term durability is yet to be established, but the previous version had a good track record, with users saying it was still going strong after several seasons of use. The warranty is for two years.
Performance
Powerful corded blower converts to a vacuum. The Toro 51619 Ultra Blower Vac is an update of a well-reviewed and well liked leaf blower, the Toro 51609 Ultra Blower Vac (Est. $85) [B007POATV4], which has been discontinued by Toro but is still widely available at retail sites. TheSweetHome.com says that the changes in this upgrade appear to be minor (pending its own testing) so performance should be similar. The specs show that it features a slightly more powerful motor, capable of moving up to 410 cfm of air at speeds of up to 250 mph. User reviews are starting to come in, and so far it’s mostly aces, with terrific performance largely reported both when blowing leaves and sucking them up and mulching them. With a new, larger impeller, mulching leaves and other debris cuts down their volume by about 88 percent. A variable-speed trigger allows users to select the right power level for each job.
Ease of use
Good handling with a few caveats. The Toro Ultra Blower Vac is designed to make changing from blowing to vacuuming mode a breeze. The new model’s more powerful performance also brings with it a one pound increase in weight, to 8.5 pounds. While we can’t be sure that’s why, we did see several user complaints saying that the new Toro is heavy. A nice touch is that when the blowing and vacuuming are done, everything can be stowed inside the vacuum bag, which can then be hung on a wall. At a noise rating of 68 dB, the Toro is relatively quiet, especially compared to a gas model, but still loud enough that wearing hearing protection while using it is a good idea.
