Although most people in the GDR lived in rented accommodation (at controlled and affordable rents – typically five per cent of one’s income), a considerable minority owned their own houses and some (often craftsmen, small business people, but also workers) built their own privately owned houses. [...] Rent levels remained virtually unchanged throughout the life of the GDR and no one could be evicted from their home. The war had left an acute housing shortage, and throughout its history the GDR fought to overcome the lack of decent housing. [...]
Although much of the housing built by the GDR has been patronisingly dismissed by Westerners as faceless ‘barracks’, this is to ignore the innovative technological aspects of the ‘Plattenbauten’ of the time as well as the spatial and economic context that informed their design. With the acute housing shortage after the war, the priority was to build sufficient housing as rapidly as possible. The Soviet method of using pre-fabricated elements which were easy to put together and build was chosen. But these new housing units were not just thrown up and left abandoned in an urban desert like so many faceless suburban housing projects throughout the Western world. The government instituted a socio-political planning strategy which prescribed that each new housing complex would include the necessary infrastructure of schools, nurseries, sports facilities, polyclinics, shops and restaurants. This meant that the new tenants would have everything they need within walking distance and could begin to build good neighbourly relations very quickly. [...]
The right to adequate housing has long been enshrined in the UN Charter of Human Rights as a basic human right, yet few countries do more than pay lip service to it. In the GDR it was a reality – everyone had a roof over their head and security of tenure or ownership.

Watch this short report to get a glimpse of what Israel has been subjecting Palestinians it has taken captive since October 7, whose numbers have now surpassed 8,400 from the West Bank alone.
The conditions in Israeli prisons have intensified and men, women, children and elderly people are subjected to starvation and torture. 14 Palestinian captives have in fact died in Israeli prisons since October 7, which is an alarming and unprecedented escalation to the already dire humanitarian crisis taking place in Israeli torture chambers.
The family of the 74 year old man in the video, Omar Assaf, did not even recognise him. He describes the past 6 months feeling as though they were 6 years.

The labor theory of value, which did not originate from Marx, forms a central pillar of Marx's analysis of the capitalist mode of production. In short, it's this: labor adds value to a finished product which makes its final value greater than the sum of its raw materials and poduction costs. It is through this fact that profit can exist. Suppose a capitalist hires a worker at an hourly wage at market value, such that they are paid 10 monies per product made in an hour, to make a product that costs 20 monies in raw material and production costs but sells for 100 monies, then the worker has generated 80 monies of value through their labor but is only compensated for 10 monies of that generated value, letting the capitalist pocket a profit of 70 monies. So profit, then, is the excess value generated from labor which, instead of going to compensate the worker for the full value generated, is pocketed as surplus value. The ratio of compensation to profit is known as the rate of profit or rate of exploitation. Bear in mind that this ratio is different in every industry, firm, country, and community but generally follows that profit must be maintained due to the logic behind the capitalist mode of production: maximizing profit.
In our example, we see a worker compensated with a market wage of 10 monies per product (abstracted). In this example, the worker is "fully compensated" for the value of their labor in the market sense. That is, they are paid what the market agrees is a fair amount for their labor; the market price of the worker selling their labor for that job in that industry. However, there exists cases where this does not happen. Instead, the worker is paid significantly less than the "fair market value" of their labor. This process is known as super exploitation. In super exploitation, the worker is paid less than the market value of their labor and which allows the capitalist to pocket even more profit. Examples of this include plantation workers in Latin America, sweat shoo workers in Southeast Asia, ship crews across the maritime industry, and more. Note that while the vast majority of these examples are from the global south. Indeed, super exploitation is a key aspect of imperialism. Global south workers are paid significantly less than their imperial core counterparts due to several factors largely stemming from a weakened working class under the domination and control of imperialist powers through hard (e.g. coups or invasions) and soft (e.g. sanctions, "free trade" agreements, loans with restructuring, etc.) power methods. The reduced cost of labor in the global south makes them attractive to imperial core firms who seek to profit more and reduce labor costs. So, while global south capitalists benefit from super exploitation, they do not have the market power that imperial core countries have which allows them to truly reap the benefits of super exploitation. This is how bananas at a while foods in san francisco can cost a mere 19 usa cents per banana.
Here I must note that though super exploitation happens most commonly in the global south, it can also happen in the imperial core. Migrant or undocumented workers are exploited far more than their "native citizen" counterparts largely due to their vulnerable political-economy. Migrant farm workers in california, for example, work long hard hours for less than minimum wage solely because they do not benefit from the protections of labor laws. These workers are largely unable to agitate or organize against these exploitative practices because their political-economic position allows the bourgeois state to deport, detain, or otherwise halt their organizing. You'll also note, this is also a great case of liberalism in practice: the exception of certain groups from accessing the "universal rights and liberties" espoused by liberalism.

How does China protect itself from capitalism and fascism?
In short, a strong state apparatus which includes its bottom up approach to selecting leadership, anti-corruption measures with participation from the general population, activism from lower level and on-the-ground party cadres, state censorship of things like fascist speech or han nationalism, and the continued politicization of the proletarian military (the PLA). There's more to it than just that but these are some of the biggest factors.

Orwell is saying the working class can be easily fooled by the bourgeoisie, not that they're dumb. A good example of this is all the working class Americana being fooled by bourgeoisie liberals into not doing a revolution. Or the working class being fooled into paying more taxes than Jeff Bezos does.
Is there a material difference between being dumb to being easily fooled to this frankly absurd argument of semantics? If you abstract this particular example out of the context of the rest of the book then yes, maybe you can make this claim. But, need I remind you, that things take on new meanings when placed with other things. Placing this aspect with the rest of the anticommunism in the text makes it a definite condemnation of the working people.
On the subject of political education, the people, being educated in one ideology or the other, are great stewards of that ideology! This is why so many proletarians in the imperial core are such staunch supporters of liberalism and all its ills and why so many proletarians in former and existing socialism are such staunch supporters of socialism. One's ideology is the result of someone's material needs and the superstructure of their political economy. It is not inherent to a class. However, again, this is not the kind of "fooling" which is depicted in animal farm

"if trump wins then fascism wins! Project 2025!!"
That shit is already fucking happening under the blue and the red team. If you really believe fascism is on the cusp of arrival then you shouldn't be hueing and crying over voting and instead should be getting arms, training, and organizing.
Fascism was never voted in. Historically, they have always been appointed and they have never been voted out. Historically, they have been removed through force.

"If not blue fascism then red fascism"
Typical liberal defeatism. Cannot imagine any optiom beyond putting in a paper every 2-4 years. The german liberals could not imagine anything but going along with the nazis because "what other methods of resistance are there?" History has condemned them for the genocide abetters that they were and history will do the same to you.
Liberal democracy is built to never give you what you want; it is by design a tool of the bourgeoisie. The goal is to dismantle it through the socialist revolution. You are going around a musical carousel of nonsensical voting while millions across the globe die in your name. If you are influencing the party in any way, you are influencing it in the direction of more genocide, more fascism, more exploitation as the present evidence clearly shows.
Go outside and unionize your workplace. Join an organization. Build stockpiles of resources. Fascism is not being delayed or softened. It is already here.
I hope all the vote bluers are enjoying the blue fascism that they claimed would be happening under trump.

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.
The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.
The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.

Liberalism is the ideology of inaction; of martyrdom over success; of ruthless denunciation for all except me; of maintaining the status quo by any and all means. It is deeply reactionary and represents the dying order. May we kill it faster.
