PERSONAL SPACE: Making the pocket box to attach on the gloves with velcro (which just gets caught in everything). I have made a few and still not really satisfied with the outcome. The component is delicate and keeps getting caught in the fabric, therefore I am having to experiment with different methods and fabric choices.

PERSONAL SPACE: I made three tester gloves for sizing and testing where the components could be placed without any restrictions to the movement of the hand and wrist. We finally decided on the placing and then I began to make the first prototype glove. This was not as easy as I thought and I spent a whole day trying to sew the flexible mesh fabric. I then sourced a different Jersey fabric which worked well and added the mesh as pockets for the components.

PUBLIC SPACE: I think casting in concrete is now one of my favourite things. Our group used Styrofoam to for the negative space which will create an archway and earlier we use foam cut outs to adorn the street furniture. We were encouraged to rethink the foam cuts and decided to go with silicone. The team worked intensively on the silicone foliage and we won't know what it will look like until the big reveal.

PERSONAL SPACE: Currently working on the last part of our final design for the prototype, my team mates have worked out the coding and I am finishing up sewing on ihis piece. It has taken a long time to figure out which materials work best, yesterday I was given some tri ks of the trade when sewing flexi le mesh using sewing paper to guide the fabric through the machine.

PERSONAL SPACE: COMING up to the end of this project and having to decide which style of glove is suitable to finalise the design. I researched a range of fabrics, tested prototypes with a cotton Jersey because it is light and flexible.

PERSONAL SPACE: I went to the material library at Central Saint Martin a few weeks ago to explore fabrics that stretch in multiple directions. Along this fabrics has good flexibility, I am not sure about the look and fell for our product.

PUBLIC SPACE- Jeppe Hein's modified bench installations along the South Bank, is playful, colourful and easily recognised as a bench. It is interesting to see that the benches attract people form all ages and backgrounds. The smaller the person the more interaction between the bench. This piece is also very recognisable because it shares the same characteristics as a bench that we see in a park or shopping centre, yet the same differences change our relationship with the object.

This is the first time I have ever use Adobe illustrator and I am so pleased with the results. I was able to upload an image to illustrator, which I managed to trace around using the pen tool.

Tutorial last week was a good opportunity to look concept development ideas and how am I responding to my the brief. The theme is about connections which can be physical or emotional and I am having to think about what are my own personal connections that are important to me.
This image is a quick response to my initial idea.

My third rotation it laser cutting and I have been worried about this particular rotation from the moment I made the choice.  There seems to be a lot of technical learning for me which will take some time for me to get my head around and new jargon's that I am not familiar with.  I have been watching how to use Adobe illustrator while having some time off, just to familiarise myself with the processes involved.

During last weeks tutorial, we were put into groups to make a one minute film that tells a story about one of our tools. We were a group of four and we all agreed on one surreal tool.  We first designed a story board with an opening shot followed by eight boards which progressively gave information about our surreal tool.  This was absolutely a great task, (just like the task with the poster) which helped solidify the purpose of the product and to impart a clear vision of communication to the viewer.
Using film as a medium helped to bring the product to life and as a group we communicated well during each stage of the process, from agreeing with the chosen design, how the story board looked and writing the script. My takeaway for this task is how much I learned about basic filming from my peers and how I can use this media in the future to communicate my ideas or journey of a design brief.

Yesterday was a good day in the metal workshop, I spent most of the day problem solving which I really enjoyed. The materials I used to make the model did not have the same properties as the metal used for the final product. I have had to make adjustments throughout the making process from the very start.  Decision making has been through understanding how materials work and I respond to the each problem with the tools I have access to.

I really enjoyed tutorials yesterday, we were given the task to design a poster to communicate the idea of my project to people who do not know anything about my intentions.  It is a way for me to stand back and look at the message I am conveying and is it the what I want to say.  This is a great exercise to develop my creative responses to a brief and test whether if I am moving in the right direction for my own personal response.

This is the second week on rotation 2 ‘Metal’ and I keep forgetting to add to this blog. At the end of last week I completed a short brief to create a handle for fruits within an afternoon.  I understand why we are given tasks with a quick turnaround, and short time span to improve how to think as a designer and push the boundaries of the last project.  Our brain develop muscle memory and with each new project thinking, mapping, planning and problem solving should get easier.  However, I am feeling frustrated with myself because of the quick turnaround I am accessing old experiences just to get the work completed in the time given.  My thinking is literal, which means I am not exploring or creating new things, things that I am proud of and want to show off.

I made a sample piece of which I was experimenting with, therefore, I was not really looking for any particular outcome but created a random form using all the technique which had been demonstrated. If you look closely you can see which parts were welded, bent, curved riveted and cut.
