Azriel: ask me why I love Elain.
Rhys: why do you love Elain?
Azriel: *pulling up a 200 slide presentation* I'm glad you asked.

“When we stop again… can you show me how that contraption works?” … “Trying to figure out what it does has been driving us all crazy.”
Genuinely cannot believe this was a canon scene. Had to go and draw this as soon as I read it.

For the love of god, please stop putting Elain’s arc on Azriel! It’s NOT about HIS choice. It IS about HERS. Elain, who has had every decision made for her. Elain who has never gotten to voice what she wanted. Elain, who’s own mother used her as a pawn to wed off one day so they could live well.
ELAIN’S ARC IS ABOUT MAKING A CHOICE FOR HERSELF. 👏👏👏
There is no love triangle between Elain, Az, and Gwyn. There is no love square between them three and Lucien. It is Elain’s love triangle between Az and Lucien. Her choice between what the Cauldron shoved at her or what she truly wants.
Ship whoever you want. But stop changing the narrative that the next book is about Azriel picking between two women (because really? Ew.).
Elain: the female who’s never had a choice.
Azriel: the male who’s never been chosen.
It’s literally right there!!
Fuck, okay. Rant over.

The "metaphor" behind the Elriel aesthetic.
Well, let's get started. We know that elriel is canonically described as "lovely fawn and death" and as "light and dark".
Tumblr media
The first thing I would like to point out is: the symbology behind the fawn in this specific case.
Fawn is a symbol of purity, freedom, fecundity and, the main point here, of LIFE.
So, twice in that quote, Elain and Azriel were presented as opposites.
Life, death. Light, dark.
They are always opposites, but opposites that always go hand in hand. No matter how hard we try to run away, light and dark go hand in hand. Life and death go hand in hand.
This is also known as complementary opposites.
Death only exists because there is life
Darkness only exists because once there was light.
In the same way that light only exists because there is darkness.
And life is only lived as we live because we are sure of death.
They coexist, complement each other and, no matter how much they try to escape, one cannot exist without the other.
Sometimes I think about this and how these opposites were placed not just once, but twice when talking about elriel and what they represent.
They are just that, opposites that complement each other perfectly.
Do they have their similarities? Of course, and there are many. But in a matter of how they are presented and how people view them, especially the feyre, they are opposites that complement each other and simply need to live side by side.
Remembering that this doesn't just happen with elriel, ok? But let's focus 100% on them today.
Anyway, that's it. I feel that sometimes we missing this little detail there, but it's a thing that always makes me think a lot. Hope you think about it too❤️

Just imagined little Elain in her garden, plucking out weeds and wearing a floppy hat with a cobalt ribbon and the hat keeps drooping over her eyes. Her hands covered in surface cuts and her new dress completely ruined. But all while she’s just smiling contently and maybe humming a little tune while young toddler Feyre babbles beside her and is playing in dirt.
I need more Elain and Feyre content in her book 😭🥺

I will get hate for this but I think Feyre's haunting in the woods is dramatised too much. If it was a male lead in Feyre's place it wouldn't be such a big deal.
Example: whoever has read Eragon is aware that when Eragon was introduced he was hunting in the woods at the age of 15. I never saw anyone pitting him because he was haunting at that age or hating on his uncle or cousin that weren't haunting with him or at least helping him through it because that was his chore. (I know Eragon is far superior than acotar as book series but this was the best example I could think of. I am not comparing the two).
The characters in the acotar series are acting like what happened to her at the woods was the most horrible thing that a child has endured in forever. For me plenty of other characters have far more traumatic experiences in their childhood than Feyre. I know she is the protagonist but it's kind of annoying to recycle and bring this up whenever the ic and especially Rhysand wants to insult mostly Nesta and I think ,in the next book, Elain, cause we haven't seen that yet. (I will not add the fact that while Rhysand hates his past, he has no problem reminding other characters's faults that belong to the past. But gets insulted when someone else reminds him what he has done.)
And for those who find hot the fact that Rhysand says that he will never forgive Feyre's sisters for not helping her, what exactly is the hot thing about this statement? It's annoying. If anyone would try to control my relationship with my siblings I would be pissed. The sisters will solve this if and when they want and neither Rhysand or the ic should have a say in this, cause they are not saints appointed to judge anyone.

Azriel probably remembers every single detail about Elains plans for the townhouse garden.
When she moves in every material she needs for plans are waiting for her.
Shes sketched it out so many times but still makes minor changes as she goes. Which means Az has had to move the same giant pot 5 times now.
And he just let's out a little chuckle everytime she has him change it.
