          It  felt  strange  being  so  exposed  in  this  costume,   but  hey  it  was  a  singles  event.   “Hey,   fancy  meeting  you  here.   That  costume  is  perfect.   That’s  my  mom’s  favorite  movie.” 

“Chris, hey,” Zia chirps, fluffing the skirt of her dress a bit at the compliment. “Your mom’s got good taste. It’s one of my favorites, too. I like your costume, you’re really selling the whole package for speed dating,” She teases.

“Nice costume,” Tenzin says, gesturing to the other woman’s baseball themed dress. “Better than all the sexy cats and bunnies I’ve seen tonight.” Being a vampire isn’t exactly original, but hey, she looks hot. “Enjoying this whole speed dating thing?”

“Oh, thanks!” Zia is quite proud of her costume if she does say so herself. It did seem one of a kind in comparison to the number of sexy animals walking around— except for the girl in the cow onesie. That was one of a kind, too. “I like yours. It’s a nice balance of hot and scary.” She offers a small one arm shrug at the question. “Not really my thing, but I figure I’d try it once.”

ZIA GHAZALI is dressed as A ROCKFORD PEACH from A League of Their Own at BOO’ED UP. She’s not really there to speed date, but Mo is there and as they are in Zia’s charge, she figures she should attend too. So, if she’s gonna go, she may as well dress up. Plus, she can carry around a bat as a weapon without question.

When the woman says that she’s not a cop but is instead just worried about his safety, Matteo can’t help but grin. “Oh, don’t worry about that. I know how to take care of myself” He gives the other a thumbs up. “Plus, this isn’t the first time I’ve been in this building. It’s safe” He explains. Matteo shrugs at the tone of the other “Exploring, training, basically just taking advantage of the empty building, you know?” He states, and pauses before going ducking under the glass and entering the window completely. “Feel free to join me if you’re all concerned though; maybe you’ll end up finding it useful too”

Zia glances over her shoulder as if there will be someone, likely her Mother, standing there with some disapproving look. Breaking and entering is still a crime, even when no one lives in the house. But, she’s also painfully curious, and slightly worried about leaving this kid to his own devices. It’s definitely mostly curiosity that has her nodding. “Yeah... yeah, sure. Wait up.” She makes her way through the gate, checking to make sure the coast is clear one last time, before heading up towards the boy. “You sure you do this all the time, kid?”

         “security, eh? private sector, i’m guessing.” it’s a certain wonder that anyone interested in self preservation would stay, at this point… but new york city is large and the troubles that have encircled it are generally locational. a few streets is meaningless so long as you can get home on time. “might be the time to change that. fare’s coming out of her have gone down recently. no wonder as to why… but never a bad thing to take advantage.”

“You guess correctly,” Zia confirms. “That bad around here, huh? That you assume that and not that I’m keeping an eye on Macy’s overnight?” She knew the answer, but curious minds... “Good to know. Might be somethin’ for when my job here is done.”

“ would it have worked if it was ? ” …you know, with the southern accent, that whole ‘tennessee/ten i see’ could also be executed flawlessly ! how many times had the woman been a victim of that… ? “ yeah ? i’ve only been here for a few months, myself. ” speaking officially, that is… but a stranger didn’t exactly need to hear ‘see, i come and go and come and go and come and go because of work but i was just told to come over here and-’ – like, that just wasn’t very natural ! “ this gym is definitely one of the better ones i’ve found so far. ”

Zia sucks her teeth and shrugs. “Guess you’ll just have to try it sometime and find out.” It probably would work, in a dorky way. Zia was a sucker for someone with a sense of humor around flirting. It wasn’t so serious, anyway, even though everyone treated it as such. “Oh, good, I hate shopping around for gyms when I’m in a new place. It’ll be nice to find a place and let it stick.”

Matteo was halfway through the window, one leg on the inside, atop a sturdy-ish block while the other was still outside, raised a bit off the ground. He had been planning to duck down to avoid the glass from the broken window and bring the rest of his body in before the last leg; but the voice from outside makes him pause. He glances at the person before glancing at the window “Exploring.” That’s a decent sounding excuse right? It doesn’t matter that this is hardly his first time in the building. “Why?” He asks, and his lips form a line “Are you a cop?” Getting arrested would really be a pain of a way to spend the day.

“Expolrin’,” Zia echoes incredulously. It seemed a lot more like breaking and entering to her, what with the shattered glass and the fact that he was climbing through the window. “Not a cop,” She assures him. Though, she is a bit of a party pooper. It was the instinct she had to protect that tended to make her that way. She just didn’t like to see people get hurt, and something told her that a boy climbing into an abandoned building alone had trouble written all over it in more than a few ways. “Just a concerned passerby is all. Don’t wanna see you hurt yourself accidentally or anything.”

         “new, are you? well, i hope you’re here on good business. city needs that more than ever.” and it’s that much more pleasant to see others crash and burn when they start from high ground. “few years, myself. but i’ve moved back and forth for longer. not a bad place to be, america. ‘course… it helps that i’d rather drop dead than step food in england, again.”

“I’d imagine so after the summer the city has had,” Zia comments. “I work in security, can’t get much more helpful than that.” At least, that’s what she enjoyed telling herself. “Really? I’ve always wanted to visit. Never been in the cards, financially, myself. But, it’s nice that you get to travel some.”

animal instinct almost set in, almost restrained the other in one way or another – but human brain narrowly beat it, analyzing the surroundings. ( if she restrained every person she bumped into in new york city, half of the population would be in quite the predicament by now. ) “ no – it’s okay. it comes with the territory, ” she replied, waving a – repeat it with me, kids – dismissive hand. now, something about this woman… vaguely familiar. “ do you come here often ? – i swear, that’s not leading to a pick-up. ”

She’s relieved not to make this something bigger than it needs to be. Not that she’s one to pick a fight, but it was the dangers of shared space that this woman seemed to understand. With a laugh, she nods. “Well, it’s a classic if it was. But, I’m here pretty often now. I just moved to the city a month or so ago,” She explains. Training was a necessity, making at least three trips to the gym a week while Mo was at home or wishing for Zia to take her leave.

“No, sir,” Zia starts, “I’m new to the city. Figure the best way to learn to navigate it as much as I can in my spare time.” She clocks his accent nearly immediately. “You lived here long? I know that’s no New York accent.”

“Hey,” She greets as she clamors into the back of a taxi, “I’m headin’ to, uh,” She glances down at the scribblings on her palm. “476 5th Avenue.” A beat. “Please.”

Some things were none of Zia’s business. There were times where the best thing to do was to walk away from a situation without getting involved. But, watching someone climb through the window of an abandoned building, likely condemned, was as good a reason as any to interject herself into a situation. “Hey, uh, what are you doing,” She asks, trying not to come across as a total buzzkill. “Not sure that’s the most legal activity ya got goin’ there.”

“Oh, don’t worry, I won’t do anything… outlandish.” Well, expect for their wolf side but that was something… they would have to explain later. Just not now. They were silent, nodding slightly. “Thank you and you’re right, it wasn’t an easy choice. For me specifically. Though, it was easy for everyone else in the moment.” 

“You would be the first not to,” Zia says with a lighthearted tone. It was part of the job, just not the most fun part. Though, this would be a first for her, protecting someone who was so publically a mutant. “Oh, you think so?” Not that she wanted to start off the job questioning her charge, but she could hardly imagine anyone having an easy time talking about the things that the lot of them when through.

“Maybe this is just a really elaborate, secret,  training exercise, that’s why he’s being so obvious about it” Atticus laughs, though he can’t say he would be surprised if that actually ended up happening. There had been a lot that had happened recently that had shifted his idea of what typical would be for the Institute. “Yeah, I think they are just trying to make everyone like the Omega’s, even more then they were before” Atticus shrugged before giving a thumbs up. “I’m never one to turn down company, especially on a search as important as this. I’m pretty sure I saw a place a few stands down the way.” There were probably at least 10 places selling fried food, but Atticus wasn’t exactly interested in finding the best funnel cake, more just the easiest to obtain. “So, what made you decide to come out to this?” Atticus asked as they made their way to the stand.

“Now that would be nearly too genius. Don’t go sellin’ them that idea, it can’t possibly end well,” She jokes. It does feel a little odd to spend so much time concerning themselves with the Omega’s when she can imagine public opinion is probably as high of them as ever. Between them and the x-men, Zia can’t imagine too many substantial complaints to be made about the omegas. “Well, I guess it makes sense with the recent line up change. It’s a good way to prove that the replacement is a good fit, putting them out in front of a crowd.” Zia can’t even imagine the nerves she would be carrying around in the same position. “Funnel cake is to die for, I couldn’t let you go on your lonesome with that at stake.” They start the journey for the fried dough, making small talk along the way. “I’m new to the city. Figured it would be a good way to get out of my bubble and meet some new friends.”
