The riot of reds in the artificial intelligence market; Microsoft: We will replace Nvidia with AMD's new chip
Microsoft and Meta decide to replace AMD's new AI chip with expensive Nvidia chips.
Advertising
Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft have announced that they will be using AMD's latest AI chip, the Instinct MI300X. This is a big deal for AMD and shows that the tech company is looking to replace Nvidia's expensive GPUs.
According to CNBC , if AMD's latest processor is good enough for tech companies and cloud service providers to build and deliver AI models, it could lower the cost of developing AI models and put increasing pressure on Nvidia's AI chip sales.
AMD says the MI300X is based on a new architecture that results in a significant increase in processing performance. Its most obvious feature is that it has 192 GB of advanced and high-performance memory called HBM3, which transfers data faster and can be synchronized with larger artificial intelligence models.
AMD says it has improved its suite of software, called ROCm, to compete with Nvidia's CUDA software, citing a key flaw that is one of the main reasons AMD prefers Nvidia.
The red team did not disclose the pricing of the MI300X, but currently Nvidia's pricing for its chips is around $40,000, and AMD's processor must be priced lower than Nvidia's graphics card to entice customers to buy it.
AMD says some companies have already signed up to use the chip. According to recent reports, Meta and Microsoft were the two biggest buyers of the H100 chip in 2023.
Meta said it will use the MI300X GPUs for AI processing such as AI sticker processing, image editing and the development of its AI assistant.
Microsoft Vice President Kevin Scott said the company will use the MI300X chips for its Azure cloud service.
However, AMD still doesn't foresee widespread sales for the chip, and only projects about $2 billion in total revenue from the datacenter GPU segment in 2024. Nvidia has reported more than 14 billion dollars in sales of datacenter products in the last quarter alone.
However, AMD says the total AI processor market could reach $400 billion over the next four years. This is twice as much as AMD's previous forecast.
This shows just how high expectations are for high-end AI chips, and why the red team is already focusing investors' attention on its product line.

After extensive retrenchment, X is now looking to hire Japanese engineers
Hiring Japanese engineers will help X provide low-cost advertising services to smaller businesses.
Advertising
Linda Yacarino , CEO of X (formerly Twitter), said in a post that her company will start hiring Japanese engineers.
According to Nikkei , X will start hiring engineers from 2024, and one of the reasons for doing so is to strengthen the app development team to provide functions and promotional products in the Japanese market.
The X development team will be established in Japan to provide low-cost advertising services and explore the demand of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.
Since Elon Musk took over X in October 2022, he has made great efforts to retain advertisers and has recently faced the exodus of some big brands such as Apple, Walt Disney and Warner .
Yacarino mentioned that another reason for strengthening the Japan X team is to deal with the publication of inappropriate content on this social network.

Meta Messenger becomes more secure; Introducing new features
By increasing the security of messages, Meta Messenger takes steps to protect the privacy of the sender and receiver as much as possible.
Advertising
According to Meta's press release , Meta Messenger improves user security by making end-to-end encryption the default option for private chats and calls.
End-to-End Encryption is a communication system in which only the people on both sides of the communication can read the messages and no other person or entity can see the messages.
In addition to increased security, Meta is introducing some other new features. The Edit Message feature lets you edit typos and the like within 15 minutes of hitting the send button.
Another new feature is focused on privacy, which is likely to be welcomed by many users.
Messenger users share more than 1.3 billion photos and videos daily, and Meta is looking to improve the user experience with new features.
New changes include improving image quality, introducing fun layouts, and adding more controls so you can reply or react to any photo or video in your media collection sent to you.
Voicemails are also getting an update, and Meta now lets you play voicemails at 1.5x or 2x speed, pick up where you left off, and when you exit the chat screen or app. Continue listening to the voicemail as you exit.
Default end-to-end encryption will take a few months to roll out globally. After your chats are updated, you'll need to set up a recovery method, such as a PIN, to ensure you can recover messages if your device is changed or lost. Other new features are likely to be available without delay.

Xiaomi 15 is getting ready to compete with iPhone 16
Although not much time has passed since the introduction of Xiaomi 14, the revelations about the next generation of this phone have already started.
Advertising
While the Xiaomi 14 series phones have just been launched, leaks and rumors about the Xiaomi 15 series have already started. Famous whistleblower Digital Chat Station has shared details about the upcoming Chinese flagship in a new Weibo post .
Based on this information, the standard model of Xiaomi 15 will keep the same 6.36-inch screen size as Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 14. It is also said that Xiaomi will not switch to a curved panel.
Xiaomi has relied on OLED panels for many of its flagship phones, including the Xiaomi 13 Ultra , Redmi K60 Ultra , and the Redmi K70 series. This trend is expected to continue in the Xiaomi 15 series, and CSOT is likely to supply the OLED panel for these phones in the future.
The leaker also mentions an LTPO-type display with a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate, which could potentially save 15-20% on battery life.
This information also reveals details about the Xiaomi 15 Pro. This phone uses a 2K resolution display and has thinner bezels than the Xiaomi 14 Pro , and its bezels go from 0.9 mm to 0.6 mm. Furthermore, the device is said to be powered by the 4th generation Snapdragon 8 processor.
These reports are very preliminary and should naturally be viewed with skepticism. The Xiaomi 14 series has just been released in China and there is no news of its global release yet. In addition, rumors of Xiaomi 14 Ultra are also circulating
