(i think about that scene in book three all the time - a wants to leave without telling addie’s parents anything, n says they need to tell them what they think. a stands by their decision and hierarchy, n gives them big brown pleading eyes, a concedes by telling the detective they can tell the parents)

“I’m sorry none of us warned you about this,” Nate says, addressing his cardboard cup of tea. “The relationship you have with Mason… It's new for us, too. Wonderful, but new, and we didn’t want to overstep.”

He looks at her, and she senses there’s more to it than that, an undercurrent of tension which suggests the team disagreed about how much to tell her and when. 

“He told me a little bit himself. That the barrier needs to be repaired sometimes and that he can… lose time.”

“Yes. It can be… He can be disoriented at first,” Nate warns her. “Not quite himself.”

“What kind of stuff are we talking here?”

Nate turns his cup slowly, holding the rim by the tips of his fingers. “I’m told a fitting analogy is that of a computer booting up. Data needs to be refiled and sometimes it’s… ah, unsorted at first. Sometimes pieces go missing.”

“Sounds a bit clinical for someone’s memories.”

He sighs. “It does, doesn’t it?”

It’s not his metaphor, and she senses it’s not his reluctance to tell her more either. She studies the patterns in the floor tiles, meant to look like wood, turned yellow by the lighting. “How many times has it been?”

“This makes twenty.” 

Not even a moment’s hesitation to calculate the number. When Kat turns to look at him, Nate’s expression is one of resignation and the heavy weight of responsibility. He knows what they block, each time a repair is made. He knows the cost, and he pays it. Has paid it, for the past 90 years, give or take. It makes her feel both closer to him and farther away. Like they’re looking through the same window, but on opposite sides of the glass.

We’ve never actually seen any of UB, erm, supplanting their dietary needs in the series and they don’t talk about it much. I’m guessing the Agency provides them with blood, but I was wondering how often they need to drink it? Does any one member of UB need more than the others? Nate said he didn’t mind eating food so much as the others, so does that mean he could go for a longer period of time without having blood as long as he eats? Can we offer our blood to UB?

Some of this will be answered in Book Three, so I’ll be vague.

N doesn’t get as much blood as the others, that doesn’t mean they don’t need as much.

They don’t need sustenance as regularly as humans, but they still do need to feed pretty regular.

does MC knows how to cook? are they good at it? if so what would be the ROs reaction when MC cooks for them?

That is up to your individual MC’s talents. There’s actually a specific scene in Book Three (it will be in the next demo, but you only get it if you choose to spend time with a certain vampire) where you can choose if your MC is actually good at it or not! :D

A and M aren’t overly keen on human food, so although A would be grateful, they wouldn’t eat it.

F is up for trying anything so would be pretty enthusiastic about it!

N would be very grateful and would love to watch as the MC cooked for them!

At some point the detective is either going to have a heart attack or the caffeine they run on will stop working for them and I like the thought of UB coming home to find them just. Conked out at the kitchen table with their hand still wrapped around a coffee mug. They only stop when it starts to make them tired and they have to switch to something else instead, like soda—still not good, but as bad as the caffeine they were living on before. Baby steps

All the fog burned off early in the morning under the spring sun, and when she turns her head south, she’s able to see Wayhaven’s marina down on the other side of town, where the locals keep their boats harbored when not in use.
