So Astarion does know how to sew. And he also does embroidery.

I can imagine that the embroidery grew out of the necessary because quite obviously he had to fix his own garments often enough. That was a necessity, a need to survive. Because Cazador would have never accepted his spawn walking around in tattered clothes. And as Astarion is one of the oldest of his spawn he might even have done this for the others. And he must have been quite good at it.

Then Astarion also enjoys pretty things. Things that are beautiful, even if that might mean they serve no other purpose. That's probably how he's seen himself for the longest time.

So he taught himself how to embroider. Because it was something he could concentrate on to take his mind of other things. And it was an opportunity to learn a skill, something he could do and be exceptional at. Something that gave him the feeling he was more than just the pretty face to lure back victims.

And it was also a way to create at least a little bit of beauty, something out of nothing. His way to give himself a little reminder that there was still some beauty out in the world.

And now, now he can use this skill to heighten your beauty. Obviously you are quite perfect the way you are. But he likes to offer to adorn you just a little more.
