Some comic book writers count Steph as an honourary daughter, and some don't. Same with Barbara, for similar reasons.

Stephanie was originally Tim's girlfriend in the late 90's/early 00's and became Robin for about three months in-universe (of which she was suspended for two months, I think). She was never taken in by Bruce as the others were, so she's not usually counted as one of his kids - she lives with her mother and I don't think she ever had a fatherly relationship with Bruce.

I’m not really following Batman but I thoroughly enjoy the many posts about him and the Batkids.

Can anyone tell me how many Bruce really has?

It depends on how you count. Generally, the main comics universe currently has Dick, Jason, Tim, Cassandra, Damian and Duke for a total of six kids.

If you consider Batman Beyond canon to the DCU, then Bruce is also biologically Terry’s dad too, upping the possible number to seven. Eight including Terry’s little brother, whose name I forget.

And then there’s Jarro (a piece of Starro, but in a jar) who isn’t legally or biologically Bruce’s kid but seems to very much wish he was. So our upper limit could be as high as nine in the main DC universe alone.

There’s also a plethora of alternate universes with different children (such as in the Earth-2 comics and Gotham Knights TV show for example).
