ten years ago you were so scared of such different things, but you survived them anyway. the same goes for five years ago and two years ago. everything that has ever felt like a hurdle, you’ve passed through. so be afraid, identify your fears, and then allow yourself to remember that in just a little while, this will be another thing that you have overcome.

in the midst of my Doctor Who rewatch and I'm thinking about Twelve as the Doctor's most consciously-designed incarnation
I wholeheartedly think that each Modern regeneration of the Doctor can be interpreted as the type of person that the previous regeneration felt they needed/wanted to be in the future. As a quick rundown of modern Doctors:
Eight felt that his pacifism had to be abandoned in a time of war, and regenerated into the violently-pragmatic War Doctor
War wore himself ragged trying to end the Time War, and upon seeing that his future incarnations were still good people he elects to regenerate into a Ninth Doctor that maintains a slight edge but is a moral near-pacifist
Nine loves traveling with Rose, but can't reciprocate how she feels towards him, so he regenerates into the Tenth Doctor, a dashing and romantic hero that matches her perception of him at the time
Ten unwillingly regenerates after a series of deeply-traumatizing experiences, and Eleven is initially very similar to Ten but with more whimsy. He really didn't want to go
Eleven... we'll get to him momentarily
Twelve goes down swinging in a hopeless battle where he loses everything, and after a jaded attempt to avert a regeneration and finally die in peace he decides to give it another go, regenerating into the bright-eyed and excitable Thirteen
Thirteen is physically and emotionally exhausted from the Flux, the Timeless Child revelations and being body-snatched and lasered by the Master, and while alone and desperate regenerates into Fourteen, the Doctor's equivalent of comfort food
Fourteen's whole existence was to find closure, and while the proper regeneration's a bit fuzzy Fifteen seems to exist as an emotionally-stable Doctor capable of processing trauma
Back to Eleven's regeneration to Twelve. When he finally changes, it is after spending a whole lifetime on Trenzalore: he's integrated into a community, grows old, and all the while misses Clara and his Tardis. By the end, Eleven's tired and fully anticipating his own death, so his survival at the behest of the Time Lords rejuvenates his spirit as well as his regenerative abilities. After a conversation with Clara and a vision of the long-lost Amy Pond, he's gone.
The thing that I appreciate is that the Doctor is noted twice, by two separate characters in two separate episodes, to have unconsciously picked specific elements for Twelve's incarnation. Madame Vastra notes to Clara that the reason that Twelve looks old is likely because the Doctor trusts Clara enough to let her see a face that better represents his history, and Twelve later realizes that he purposely patterned his features after Caecillius, the man Ten and Donna broke time to rescue, because the face will "hold [him] to the mark".
Anyway, I just realized the Doctor may have unconsciously added another quirk to his Twelfth incarnation. Remember how I pointed out Eleven's hallucination of Amy Pond? He was thinking of his beloved companion Amelia as he died, that little Scottish girl he promised to show the stars to, and the woman she became.
Where did Twelve get his accent?

Is it possible for somebody to teleport a metal band around my bladder / small intestine and then make it just tight enough to be really painful without killing me? Because that’s how I feel right now
