With a solemn nod in return, Light promised the two Dragonesses that they would keep a close eye on everyone in the group, too, for while they knew that they were all capable of defending themselves, there had been times they were caught off-guard; so to make sure this could not happen, Light would take the first watch tonight, and they would simply work out who would take over their shift later.
In turn, after they grabbed their sword, and another bowl of stew, along with some bread, Light set their eyes on a big rock some distance away, on higher ground, which would give them a greater view over the entire area; but just as they left the light of the campfire, Nox quickly flew after them, and asked them if they were rested enough to take the watch, as she could take it for them instead.
But Light just quietly sighed, and shook their head, before they told Nox that they were all right, and that there was little to be worried about, especially since they were in unclaimed territories; but if she did not mind, Light continued, they asked her if she could join them, and stay with them for at least a little while, as they figured they would swiftly feel lonely, so far from the group.
To their immense relief, Nox warmly smiled to them in response, and together, the two walked across the plateau, carefully climbed part of the way up the hill, and took a seat on the rock next to one another, where they both let out deep sighs; and here, Light let Nox know that they had spoken with Ember, and they were confident that neither she nor Inferno would start any hostility towards Boom.
That being said, however, if they were to believe Ember, she told them about some grave crimes that Boom had committed upon her Family, and even though she did not give them any details, it was clear that it deeply distressed her still; for even when she just vaguely mentioned what he had done, she quickly teared up, and she had to take time to calm down, but also look at Inferno for reassurance.
Though they had only met her earlier that day, and they knew close to nothing about her, they could easily tell how stoic and focused Ember was, so they were shocked to see how quickly she started to cry over the mere thought of what Boom had done; and while he had often proved that he wanted to do better, the fact that it took until they showed up for him to start doing anything upset them, too.
All that they could hope for was that they did not have to take many lives in the Marauder Outpost, for while it was clear that their presence was a threat to every corner of the West, and the Empire in particular for some reason, they were less certain over what Boom's goal was; and they concerned for the safety of the group, and all their friends, and they feared they could not defend them all.
As Nox gently placed a paw on Light's shoulder, she softly said that she understood their fears all too well, and she promised to be by their side to protect everyone, which she hoped would put their mind at ease somewhat; but what she wanted them to know was that they should not allow their doubts and worries to distract them, for if they did not stay safe themselves, they could not help anyone.
At that moment, she realised that Light's ear twitched slightly, before they sweetly smiled to her, and solemnly thanked her for staying by their side, promising her in return that they would be sure to look after themselves, as long as she would do the same for herself, too; but they did not utter a word about what Luna had asked of them, to make sure Nox that was safe most of all, just in case.
But Nox just briefly shook her head, before she let out a deep sigh, and just quietly enjoyed being in Light's company, even if neither the circumstances nor environment they found themselves in were very pleasant, or at all so; but being in a neutral area in such pure darkness enabled them to look far into the dark sky, when Light let out a deep sigh, and said they missed seeing countless stars.
Then, Nox sweetly laid her head on their shoulder, just as her horn faintly started to glow…

Both Shining and Light nodded to Boom and Ember respectively before they sat down next to them, and tried to come up with anything to say, as they figured they were less likely to lean to the other's side without realising it if they had to support the other; but it still took time before either of the two uttered a word, when they politely asked their targets how they felt after such a long day.
In response to Shining, Boom chuckled quietly, and told him that he had been threatened more than a dozen times, sustained severe injuries that he had fortunately already managed to recover from, and nearly fallen to his doom, because of the Dragoness sitting on the other side of the pot; so it was somewhat pleasant than usual, but he could not complain, before he asked Shining the same question.
After he managed to process the great amount of information that Boom had dropped upon him, Shining discreetly shook his head, and asked Boom in response if he knew for how long they would still have to travel until their destination; and Boom asked Shining for a moment as he looked for the satchel that held his map, which gave Shining a few moments to look at Nox, who just quickly nodded to him.
Fortunately, Boom did not notice any of Shining and Nox's communication, but after he sat down next to Shining again, he carelessly started throwing out many maps and loose papers as he tried to find the map on which they had laid out the best route to take to the East; but his messy searching gave Shining a headache, as he barely managed to grab every piece of paper before it landed in the fire.
When he finally found the map he had been looking for, Boom did not even bat an eye at the mountain of paper that had almost entirely covered Shining, until he cleared his throat to make him aware of his actions; but instead, even though Boom did not apologise, to his immense frustration, he easily shoved every piece of paper into his bag as he unfolded the map, and tried to find where they were.
Not long after he found the great chasm they crossed a while ago, and had traced out their straight path to the East, Boom found the approximate area where they were, and he told Shining that if they left at Sunrise, they should see the Outpost on the horizon by midday; but there could be many vile things just ahead of them, and they would no doubt face great opposition as soon as they got close.
For that reason, Boom continued, he told Shining that it was clever to get some rest, as they still had a long way to go, and if they were to fight many Marauders at the end of the day, he needed all the strength he could spare; and Shining nodded, but before he went to sleep, he wanted to ask Boom how he felt about Ember, and if they should all be concerned about infighting within their company.
In turn, as Boom peeked around the pot blocking his view, and saw Light and Ember speaking with one another, he let out a deep sigh, and said that he knew very well how much harm he had done to Ember and her Family, what little there was left of it; and he was certain that she would gladly take his life in exchange for his actions, but he hoped that she would at least wait until they had victory.
On the other side of the pot, meanwhile, Light was patiently listening to Ember as she slowly tried to express her frustrations, continuously turning towards Inferno for little more than a warm smile and a few kind words of encouragement; but the longer they listened to Ember, the less they trusted Boom, whom they just saw in the corner of their eye as he snuck a peek at them from behind the pot.
At one point, Light thought they could see tears welling up in her eyes, but when Inferno shook her head at them out of Ember's sight, they nodded in return, and did not mention it, but they did keep in mind the fact that something deeply troubling her; and they kindly asked Ember if she felt ready to travel tomorrow, even if they did not know how long they would have to spend close to the other?
After Ember briefly glanced at Inferno, she firmly nodded, and said:
"As long as we all stay determined, and focused on our objective, it should be easy."

Although Ember made sure to keep in mind everything that Nox, Light, and Inferno had told her about the Pink Pup, she paid little mind to it, and instead, merely quietly ate her stew and bread, which was both oddly filling and tasty, to her surprise; and she glanced at Light, who solemnly nodded to her in response as they ate their own meal, all while keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
At that moment, Inferno slowly moved over to sit next to her, and Ember warmly smiled when she felt her wing reach around her back to pull her closer, even if the two of them were still nervous about sitting so close together in front of the rest of the group; but they soon noticed that none of the others looked at the two Dragonesses for any longer than it took to smile and nod politely to them.
It was then that Inferno gestured for Ember to look to her side, where she found Courage had slowly approached her by a couple of steps, only to freeze in place when she turned to face him, quivering in his every limb; but while her immediate instinct was to shoo away the Pup, Ember knew she had to take a moment longer to think about her actions, and she carefully showed him the palm of her claw.
As Courage slowly stepped towards them, Inferno quietly suggested to give him a piece of her bread, which Ember then tore off and placed next to her on a clean stone, before she turned back to eating her stew and spending time with Inferno, not paying much attention to the Pup yet again; but it did not take very long before Ember felt a tickling sensation on her side, as Courage was sniffing her.
With a deep sigh, Ember briefly chuckled, but just before she could pet the Pup on his little head, she noticed that her claw was as big as Courage's entire body, and she pulled her claw back, trying to avoid thinking about what it looked like from his perspective; for while she was capable of many great things, she dreaded the day that she would encounter a Great Dragon with claws as big as her.
In turn, she quickly finished her stew, and before she had even swallowed all the diced vegetables, she put her bowl aside, and carefully laid her claw on the ground again for Courage, who sniffed at her claw for a moment before he backed off again; and Ember shook her head to Inferno, and sombrely said that she figured as much, that Courage would be far too scared of her to apologise to the Pup.
But in return, Inferno smiled, and sweetly reminded Ember that it took time, far more than just the first few moments of introductions, for the Pup to get used to her, when she gestured the other way again; and they noticed Courage was sitting close to Ember, turned away from her, but only slightly quivering as he looked at her on occasion, which she figured was a significant improvement already.
Meanwhile, from the other side of the pot, Boom could only watch on in frustration as Courage moved closer to Ember, despite what she had done to them both just a few moments ago: startling awake the poor Pup and causing him to fall to his doom from a great height; and he could not eat his stew, as it made him sick to his stomach that he had not heard any apology from Ember for what she had done.
Even though Boom only stewed in his own anger, Nox, Light, and Shining, who were all sitting at one side of the camp, quietly watched on as Courage slowly continued to approach Ember, and eventually, she quietly apologised to the Pup for scaring him, adding that she meant nothing by it; but even as he started wagging his tail in return, it was clear that Boom had not heard anything she just said.
As the trio watched the unintended hostility between Courage and Ember fade, they realised that the bitterness within Boom only ever seemed to grow, so, without uttering even a single word, the three quickly glanced at each other, and they knew what the others were thinking; and with a few discreet gestures, they split up, and as Nox stayed in place Shining moved over to Boom, and Light to Ember.
While they figured the two would never be friends, they hoped to at least make them cooperate…

Oh my goodness this looks absolutely incredible! I love how calm Light looks!
And the details in the entire piece are brilliant too! The ripples in the water, the bark of the trees, all the different shades of green, it’s wonderful!
Thank you so very much for the art! ^^

It's Some Pony Sunday again, and another art piece is given out!
This one goes to @ask-healthy-light, who is just taking it easy in the forest, just watching the water go by. After whatever journeys they've been going through, a moment's reprieve is what they need.
Hope you like it! ^^

It was clear that Ember was uncertain if she should accept their suggestion, so Light spoke up, and politely said that she was not bound to the group, and if she wanted to head home again, they would respect her decision, no matter what; but if she was set on leaving, they would not dare let her go without having something to eat first, since there was fresh bread and plenty of stew for everyone.
Although the three Dragonesses were briefly confused at the fact that they had managed to make stew in such a distant place, Light sweetly said that if she would prefer not to see Boom, they would at least bring her a portion with some bread; and they added with a quiet sigh that the offer extended to Inferno and Nox, too, so if they would rather accompany Ember to the West, they were free to go.
But in response, both Nox and Inferno, who appeared almost hurt over their comment, replied that it would be a great dishonour if they suddenly abandoned them in the middle of their journey, not just to the group, but to themselves, as well; and besides, flying through occupied territories at night was a recipe for disaster, and it was wisest to wait until the Sun rose again before they departed.
With an exhausted sigh, Ember nodded along with Inferno and Nox, before she admitted that they were right, and that no matter how much it infuriated her to know that Boom was waiting at the campfire, she had to stay with the group for the night; for despite her own strength and her ability to wield the Scepter, she would not be able to withstand the power of countless other Dragons attacking her.
Just as she got from where she sat, closely followed by Nox and Inferno, Light quickly reminded her that if being close to Boom upset her so much, they could bring her some food that she could easily eat here, so she did not even have to look at him before she left; but to their concern, Ember just shook her head, until she told Light that she had managed to calm down with the help of the others.
Even though the Great Volcano would sooner turn to ice than she would apologise to Boom, Ember said that she at least wanted to make sure that the tiny Pink Diamond Pup understood she did not mean to frighten it; for while she remembered tales about those Dogs stealing the Dragons' jewels for their own hoards, she figured that a Dog as small as Carnage would not be a threat, in spite of his name.
Mere moments after Light turned around to lead the three Dragonesses back to the camp, they stopped walking, and slowly asked Ember whether they had heard her correctly, and that she thought the name of the Pup actually was Carnage; and when Ember merely shrugged in return, Light chuckled, and said that his name was, in fact, not Carnage, but Courage, because he was actually terrified of Dragons.
Before Ember could utter even a single word in confusion, Nox told her that when her Mother and she saw the little Pup for the first time, he ran away from her in terror, and it took some time before he was comfortable enough around her to not flee when she was even remotely close; and since he had only met Inferno this morning, and her just a few hours ago, it was impressive that he was so calm.
But before she rushed towards him, Inferno politely added, as the four walked back to the fire, she her wanted to know that she should wait for Courage to approach her, just so he got the time to get used to her; for while he was just a Pup in her eyes, she was a massive Dragoness to him, and if he were to run away at this time of day, in this part of the Dragon Lands, he could get terribly hurt.
It took a while for Ember to let everything the others had told her fully sink in, but fortunately, by the time that they made it back to the camp, where Light solemnly thanked Shining for keeping an eye on the stew and dough, she sat down in front of the fire; and to her immense relief, the pot of stew which she just noticed was large enough to prevent her from seeing Boom in every possible way.
While Ember looked around for Courage, Light and Shining cut the bread and served the stew.
When she got a bowl of stew and some bread, she saw a small pink shape in the corner of her eye…

Both Shining and Light briefly glanced at Boom, who appeared to be entirely unphased, even after he had narrowly survived Ember's confrontation, and his subsequent fall from a great height right into the smouldering campfire; but Light merely shook their head as they let out an immense sigh, before they turned around again, and politely asked Shining for his help in preparing meals for the group.
Although Boom audibly chuckled when Shining eagerly nodded in response, neither he nor Light looked at him, and instead, they shuffled around each other to grab what they needed from all the satchels that laid scattered about; and when the water finished boiling, as they poured it into a small cup, Light asked Shining to grab some of the broth from their satchel, so Summer at least had something.
It took some time for Shining to dig through everything Light had packed, until he was finally able to find a packet of bouillon cubes, which he carefully tossed their way; but before he could figure out how such a massive pack could fit in their satchel, yet still leave room to spare for countless other ingredients, and many cans and jars of preserved foods, Light kindly gave him a cup of broth.
When he looked at the others, to his surprise, Shining found that Summer and Boom were both already drinking some hot broth from their own cups, while Light was busy mixing a pile of dough in a bowl; and after they put the dough aside to rise, they told Shining they were going to check on the three Dragonesses, both to make sure that they were all right, and to bring them something warm to drink.
Just as they leapt out of the dried creek, they quickly asked Shining to keep one eye on the dough, and the other on the pot they had hung over the fire, so it would not overflow, before they stepped out of sight, leaving him incredibly confused at their sudden and massive setup; and he wondered in silence whether Light had enchanted their satchel, which he figured held far more than met the eye.
But his thoughts were interrupted by a delicious smell that seemed to emanate from the big pot, and Shining quickly got up to stir whatever it was Light was cooking, which he found was a hearty stew, filled to the brim with all sorts of vegetables; and Shining started to look for a small spoon, but stopped on the way to clean his hooves, when he found that Light had managed to pack soap, as well.
After he had dried his hooves, Shining felt his stomach growl, to the amusement of Boom and Summer, whereafter he tasted a mere spoonful of the stew, and swiftly judged that it did not contain enough salt, as it had been diluted too much; but he only added a hoofful at a time, continuously stirring the mix to let it stew evenly, which he knew needed more time for the flavours to come to fruition.
For a little while, Shining shifted back and forth between stirring the stew and kneading the risen dough, which he covered again, and placed close to the fire to let it rise more, while also keeping an eye on both Boom and Summer, who politely asked him for more broth; and Shining moved around the campfire with ease to bring the two some more broth, while Light listened to the three Dragonesses.
Fortunately, Nox and Inferno had managed to calm Ember down enough that she was not only willing to explain, but open to listening to the advice they gave her, too, occasionally pausing to drink from the cups of broth Light had given them, which they greatly appreciated; but she could not look past Boom's complete lack of respect, especially since he did not even give her the chance to apologise.
If she had known that her voice was enough to startle awake that little Diamond Dog Cur, about whom he clearly cared more than almost anything, she would have at least tried to make the initiative to watch her tone; but after the others kindly told her to avoid that word when talking about Courage, Ember sighed deeply, and quietly said that she should just go, as she was clearly not welcome here.
But as soon as she said this, Nox and Inferno both gently grabbed her claws, and sweetly told her:
"We can tell you are not yourself. Come, at least join us for some food, and you may decide then."

Before anyone could react to the massive funnel that was rapidly falling towards them, it enveloped Boom, and touched the ground in the middle of the group, right on top of the smouldering remains of the campfire; and after the intense wind that followed it a mere moment later had pushed the others backwards at great speed, they realised that they were unhurt, and saw Boom on the doused campfire.
Dreading that the Green Unicorn had impacted the ground at terrifying speed, worsened by the sudden and nigh inexplicable tornado funnel that had seemingly blown him down quicker, Light leapt up from where they landed, and ran over to make sure that Boom was all right; but when they jumped into the dried creek that held their untouched supplies, Light noticed that Courage was sitting next to him.
Despite often having witnessed his incredible healing ability first-hoof, and having little concern that he would not swiftly make it back even from the brink of death, Light still knew that it would take time for him to recover, so they knelt down to reassure Courage; but just as they pet the Pup, Light felt their heart skip a beat, and they snapped to look at Boom when a hoof touched their leg.
No sooner had their terrified heart returned to a regular rhythm when it was stopped once again, as Boom started to get up with a loud and painful groan, and it took a moment for Light to dash to his side to tell him to rest, and to let his body heal for a while; but to their confusion, Boom merely quietly chuckled in response, and as he sat upright, he told them that he was all right and unhurt.
The tone in which he spoke felt warm and calm, and nowhere near as frightening as when they were on the Great Volcano, but Light still trod carefully, and solemnly asked Boom if he was certain he did not need any rest, to which he shook his head; for while his voice did ache somewhat because of his fearful screaming, when the funnel washed over him, he steadily slowed down until he softly landed.
Since he saw they had to run towards him from a significant distance away, Boom continued, he had a feeling that he was even less injured than they, and all the others who were frozen in place around the campfire, while he fell to his doom; but Light merely let out a deep sigh, before they told him they were glad he was all right, even if they struggled to understand how this could have happened.
At that moment, Light heard a familiar voice speak up behind them, before it told them that it felt hurt, as if they had already forgotten about the one being in their company who had a connection to the air around them, and who had helped them before; and when Light turned around, they saw Summer, breathing heavily as he slowly wandered towards them, wearing a small, but proud smile on his face.
Just as Ty sank through his legs, Light was able to catch him, and they glanced between the sky and the Young Kirin in their arms incredulously, as if they could not believe that he managed to create a tornado over their heads; but even though they did not utter a word, Summer knew what they wanted to say, so he sweetly chuckled, and told them it was one of his most powerful and taxing abilities.
Perhaps, in due time, Ty added, he could teach them how to harness such a destructive force for the better, although he figured they would have to find a place close to water, just in case their fire got out of control; but that was for another moment, and for now, he would greatly appreciate it if he could rest with a meal, for he was exhausted, and it had been some time since he had last eaten.
With a kind smile on their face, Light solemnly nodded to Summer, and they carefully helped him lie down on their mat, before they gave Boom a hoof to get up and out of the campfire, before they once again lit it up with a flick of their tail; and they grabbed a flat stone, which they put down on a couple of other rocks that surrounded the campfire, and placed a kettle on top of it to boil water.
A little while later, only Shining returned to sit by the fire, before he quietly said:
"Nox and Inferno are keeping Ember company. She is rightfully upset, in many ways…"
