Tell me ✨everything✨ about your Au’s vikare!

To be honest with you, there’s not really much to say about Vikare that I haven’t already explained. He’s probably one of the only characters in this whole thing who’s having a half decent time.

As mentioned in this post and this post, Vikare is a pilot for the Empire. He works alongside Kuprum who, as explained in this post, is his matesprit. He lost a leg after their ship crashed during a run in with an enemy craft. The new robotic leg he has was not only crafted by him, but was also made to replicate a cassowary leg as both a tribute to his lusus and as a potential weapon. His prowess as a pilot saved him from getting fired, but he did essentially get demoted to a supply runner following the incident.

While he takes pride in Kuprum and his new leg, he doesn’t really like to talk about his time in the military. Not just because it was generally traumatic, but also because it forced him to do a lot of things he wouldn’t have done otherwise. Currently, he’s dropping a mix of supplies to the Central Colony, such as food, cleaning and medical supplies, and machine parts. The nature of his rounds mean that he’s in the Colony for at least a perigee, passing on the supplies and making note of what he needs to prioritise on his next run.

He’s a more minor character in the story really, but he is going to play a slightly larger part later on. While this is an AU dedicated to lowbloods, some of them play more important parts than others and I feel like trying to force them all into big or substantial parts can sometimes do more harm than good. Vikare serves his purpose as a smaller, more level-headed character who is somewhat detached from the inner, social workings of the Central Colony and rebellion talk.

Can you give explanations of the jobs of some of the trolls and why you gave them those jobs in your au?

So, I’ve talked about jobs before in this post, but I can explain why I gave them those jobs here if you’d like :))

So, Xefros and Dammek are technically both butlers, but Xefros is the only one who’s actually employed. He’s employed by a nameless blueblood (use your imagination), and most of his job consists of standing around, bringing his employer food and drink, and cleaning up his mansion. While I do think Xefros still has an interest in arena stickball and definitely had the potential to go pro, I reckon that Dammek kind of forced him to settle into butlering, keeping him under the impression that it was a more stable position. Ironic, since Dammek himself hasn’t actually been able to stay in one butler position for more than a few weeks at a time. I chose this for them because not only does it align with their whole “Butler Boys” thing in canon, but I think it demonstrates a lot about their characters. Xefros has had to give up a lot for Dammek, but still works hard, while Dammek avoids responsibility even when it’s literally handed to him.

Chixie and Marsti are both nurses, albeit different kinds. Marsti is an emergency nurse, meaning that she tends to trolls who come in to their version of an ER, while Chixie tends to patients who are admitted for more long-term care, like trolls with broken bones or serious injuries. Now, Marsti being a nurse objectively makes sense, given her medical knowledge in canon, as well as her janitorial duties (there’s a LOT of cleaning involved in nursing), but I can imagine that some of you think it’s an odd choice for Chixie. To make a very long story short, much like Xefros, Chixie had to essentially choose between her passion and her career. Being a singer off-planet is a completely different ball game to being a casual singer on Alternia and, for Chixie, the odds were very much stacked against her. Sleazy managers, awful contracts, no real identity other than what’s manufactured for her- you get the picture. But, with the help of Marsti, Chixie managed to find her place in nursing, as it gave her an opportunity to use her love of helping other lowbloods trolls in a way that matters. She still sings, but it’s more for herself these days.

Skylla and Vikare are a bit more bare bones. Skylla is a lusus wrangler and Vikare is an Empire pilot- both pertaining to their interests and lifestyles in canon. Skylla’s job involves capturing and taming lusii so they can be placed on Alternia to raise grubs, which is just as dangerous it sounds. Vikare used to be in the Empire’s military, but now runs supply drops after a gruesome injury during an aerial dogfight. Again, very simple, very much in line with canon.

Fozzer has technically had two jobs while off-planet. When he first ascended, he was part of the body disposal unit; preparing corpses to be disposed of and- where necessary- “reused”, pulling his knowledge from his culture and time at the Pit Park. Unfortunately, Fozzer had a bit of an incident at work, which resulted in him attacking a co-worker and being removed from the unit. However, after having a corrective procedure, Fozzer found himself becoming somewhat of an Empire darling, due to his uncanny ability to talk his way out of anything. Thus, he was hired to be a lecturer, giving talks to lowbloods about the value of their work and whatnot. In his own words though, it’s less performing arts, more customer service, as he’s essentially selling them a state of mind (one he doesn’t believe in at that). I picked this route for him for two main reasons: the first is that, in canon, he’s shown to be a bit of a hypocrite and can make anything sound convincing, and the second is for super secret plot reasons.

Little bonus for you! Zebruh owns a casino- this is purely an aesthetic choice and I think it fits him- and Ardata is somewhat of a freelance executioner for the Empire, who runs her business from the basement of Zebruh’s casino. She still does streaming, but it’s more for advertising purposes.

👉👈 pretty please could you tell us everything about your au’s Kuprum!!

Okay, so Kuprum hasn’t actually turned up yet, he’s only been spoken about, but! He will be turning up later, and I have planned out his general deal.

Warmer Hues Kuprum isn’t too different from canon Kuprum, aside from the fact that he’s mellowed out a little with age. Serving as Vikare’s battery, Kuprum’s job is to power the bronze’s ship, as well as generally aid him in combat or- more recently- handling supply deliveries. Kuprum was paired with Vikare due to the fact that he has a condition which causes him to produce too much psiionic energy, which can make piloting the ships he powers more challenging. Vikare, being one of the Empire’s most skilled pilots, was considered the best choice for him.

As mentioned previously, Vikare and Kuprum are in a matespritship. Their relationship, while confusing to outsiders, is one built on deeper understanding of one another. Vikare understands the hurt Kuprum feels after losing Folykl and dedicating so much of his life caring for her, and Kuprum understands Vikare’s needs to keep his dreams alive in spite of how hopeless everything is. It’s stated in Chapter 10, but Kuprum actually saved Vikare after their ship crashed when they were still doing combat missions; this was basically the beginning of their more serious relationship, as it illustrated the lengths the pair would go for each other, despite how much they initially clashed.

Outside of romance though, Kuprum is pretty much his usual self. He’s still crude and energetic and still wants to meet Trizza at least once. Deep down though, he misses Folykl. He misses Folykl a LOT. In canon, it could be read that his sleazy 4Channer persona is a bit of a front, seeing how he drops it in Friendsim to check on Folykl when she gets hurt. In Warmer Hues, it is DEFINITELY a front- and he can’t keep it up as well as he used to. He’ll make a lewd comment or throw you an unnecessary insult, but you’ll be able to tell that his heart’s not in it. Those things don’t feel the same without Folykl backing him up or chastising him for being weird.

Kuprum is more of a minor character than anything, but I hope this gave you the insight you wanted :))

begging pleading tell me everything about marsti in this au!!!!!!!!

Everything? Okay.

So, in Warmer Hues, Marsti works at a mediculler unit (hospital) in Sector RBN-0718. She has plenty of colleagues, but she’s especially close with Chixie. Marsti got Chixie the job at the unit and, as such, feels very responsible and protective of her- which is a theme amongst most of Marsti’s relationships. Marsti specialises in emergency nursing, so she’s constantly dealing with a conveyor belt of new patients, all of varying severity and temperament. It’s stressful work, but Marsti is well-equipped for the job. She tends to use her few moments of respite between patients to clean; it’s sort of like a meditation for her. While a professional to her core, she also sometimes bypasses unit rules to help her fellow lowbloods get the most out of their care, such as informing them of financial loopholes and giving them extra care.

Marsti is in a matespritship with Skylla. They met on Alternia and it was love at first “hey, this lusus just tore a hole in my leg, please help”. Their relationship is very measured and healthy, but Skylla’s reckless behaviour and Marsti’s emotional repression sometimes causes tension. They get through it together though; they’re nothing if not diligent workers. Marsti is defined by needing someone to look after and/or dote on, but Skylla helps balance this by always being happy to cook up a nice meal for her and make her feel appreciated. To be honest, she probably needs it, because Marsti is going through it in this AU.

While Marsti has always been one to care for others (albeit very implicitly), this part of her was tripled after coming off-planet following the death of Folykl. I think it’s… unrealistic to assume that Folykl would make it off-planet- and even if she did, she would probably get culled. Regardless, Folykl’s death was traumatic to Marsti, as she blames herself for not being able to save her. Marsti also harbours a lot of guilt towards Fozzer’s situation, as she was one of the few trolls who knew him prior to his procedure and knows why he had to have it in the first place (little hint for this one: read Lost and Found, an old fic of mine. It’s unfinished, but it’s canon to Warmer Hues).

In regards to some upcoming stuff, I don’t want to spoil too much, but I will say that Marsti’s love for those around her often gets her wrapped up in stuff she didn’t sign up for. Marsti also has a pretty strong sense of justice, so even if she doesn’t want to be involved in something, she’ll follow through if it’s for the right reasons.
