oh no this is like those weird text chains but really wholesome
i like humanity actually pretty chill 9/10 species, it's no yellow warbler but comes pretty close
The fact that the internet by and large is not aware of the Humanity, Fuck Yeah literary movement means that I get to, and that's great for me, I love yapping. I've been seeing a lot of posts about the terror of humanity, the indomitable human spirit, helldivers, etc. Humanity, Fuck Yeah! or HFY is a literary movement of sci-fi stories that flip the traditional humans-v-aliens conflict from "we're so behind and aliens are insanely powerful" to "humans are so biologically fucked up that technology that outpaces ours by light-years is still not enough". HFY asks the important question of "what if the circumstances humans evolved for are insane and stupid actually? what if adrenaline is not an ok thing to naturally produce?"
HFY has a lot of ideas really funny to me. A core tenant of a few of the shared universes of HFY is that earth is what's called a "deathworld" or something along those lines. So, say an Advanced Alien Species™ checks the planets of a galaxy every once in a ridiculously long time by human standards to see if any life is showing up and if they have any use for that life. They see earth and go "oh, deathworld, nothing useful is gonna show up here" but then, we went from having no meaningful life to A Lot of It™ real fuckin quick due to the death world environment resulting in evolution happening insanely fast. the ship comes around for its 100 thousand year or whatever check, finds humanity back in like the stone age and goes "wait that's not supposed to happen" and just kinda goes "nope nothing here dont even worry abt it" and when those aliens find out those guys lied everyone freaks tf out abt intelligent life on a death planet and that the fuckers are scrappy
One I like a lot is that the human immune system is so aggressive and violent that when aliens get too close to humans without a LOT of vaccinations, they're just out of commission for a few months of heavy medical attention. There's also the idea that allergies are a stupid thing to exist, like "wdym your immune system attacks itself? thats fucking stupid, you're all stupid"
My two favorites in this genre are one where soldier aliens drop down to earth in the middle of a hockey game with zap guns and get absolutely murked by the players who got zapped and it wasnt even taser levels and another where a human gets to a space station and is reminded that humans are the only major race who can see color and so he spends like the next day fixing this gaudy fucking mess of a space station filled with colors that should NOT go next to each other and everyone just goes "ignore it, they're insane, just keep walking"
I have so many more little bits and stories I love but I'll spare you all here. (I feel I should also clarify, nothing I've said here is universal of HFY stories, I'm just mentioning the parts I like of various ones)
