wait i think i just realized what the nine realms title comes from
so i googled yggdrasil randomly and basically its a tree from norse mythology - with the 9 realms; Asgard, Alfheim, Svartalfheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jötunheimr, Vanaheim and Niflheim - a lot of which are referenced in rtte. what do you think?
Something I'm going to bring up in my Season 6 review, as a matter of fact 🙂 great question!
My general opinion on this: Yes, it's clear that the show is attempting to tie a significant part of Viking culture into their show that's supposedly exploring the intricacies of heritage and ancient civilizations you have some connection with. I believe John Tellegen has even liked/replied to tweets directed at him that support this theory.
Yeah, the thing is, that would be great if the show was trying at LITERALLY all the other things they're supposed to be trying at first.
Screenwriting, character development, animation, simple plots of episodes, etc. All of these areas have very obviously been lacking since the start of the show. Hell, they can't even stay consistent with the rules of the universe they're adding to. The amount of times they get a dragon's ability wrong (see: Razorwhips making fire tornadoes because they forgot Typhoomerangs were a thing) or selfishly change something in Hiccup and Toothless' story to make a lackluster plot work within The Nine Realms is absolutely insulting.
Therefore, I see this "subtle" tie in to actual Viking mythology as ridiculously pretentious. "SeE??? wE'rE DoiNg SoMEtHinG SMaRt aNd CleVeR wITh OuR TiTLe!!!" While the rest of the show is simultaneously destroying the brain cells of everyone who consumes it.
TLDR: Get the lore of YOUR OWN FICTIONAL UNIVERSE correct before you expect me to take your "clever" tie in with actual mythology seriously, Dragons: The Nine Realms.

To members of the HTTYD fandom who watch Dragons: The Nine Realms - I need your opinion
Tumblr media
I'm currently working on my Season 6 review, and I'd like a few honest opinions on Jun as a character. Preferably from people who have seen the show itself, not just my biased reviews. If you've seen them, you DEFINITLEY know how I feel about her.
I am genuinely trying to see different perspectives of this character from people who have seen the way she's written in its unfiltered form.
What's your opinion on Jun Wong as a character in comparison to the other kids? Good, bad, or indifferent?
Yes I am biting my tongue in rage after drafting a part of my script where I tear her to shreds for how she acted in Season 6 but I'm committed to doing a fair assessment

The thing is, this is the first Jun-centric episode that I really liked (for all the wrong reasons). Because a vast majority of it is Tom and Alex finally getting fed the fuck up with Jun's bullshit and it's so gratifying to watch.
Not to mention the way the screenwriters unintentionally proved my point that Jun and the show's sociopathic villain have a TON in common lmfao.
I was checking out the episodes of The Nine Realms just to see what I’m in for and I’m already so mad.
Tumblr media
Fuck this. YOU ALREADY DID THIS PLOT YOU STUPID ASS SHOW! Not to mention that the way they write Jun’s obsession with myths is very racist. Believing in cultural myths is fine; I respect that belief. But the way it’s shown just feels so wrong. I can hear Audrie Greywind crying in the distance.

Love this!! 🥰
youtube
Hi :D 4 months ago I took a train down memory-lane and made this video for my Patrons. It was actually @AudrieGreywind who inspired me to make this, watching her videos brought out some nostalgia for me <3 I think it’d be really sweet to leave the video here as all. This is me, many years later scrolling back through this blog, @leffie-draws-fanart. Enjoy, I wonder how many of you are still around :D

Just subscribed! Really enjoyed your content from your interviews with Richard 👀😆 (I would have commented on the video but I post work stuff on that account)
THANK YOU for making your videos so we don’t have to watch nine realms. Keep up the good work! ❤️
Thank you!! So glad the fandom can finally rejoice with a portion of The Fire Tides they were denied for so long - hopefully we'll get to see the full comic someday 👀
The less people that are subjected to watching T9R on their own, the better the world is.. in my opinion at least. Thanks for watching! 💞

Making Your Hiccup Fanart CANON w/ Richard Hamilton
youtube
It’s finally here HTTYD fandom!
Since The Fire Tides was scrapped, we never thought we’d see the “canon” shirtless Hiccup we were promised - until now!
HTTYD Graphic Novel co-writer Richard Ashley Hamilton and I go through the fandom’s entries and choose the winner together 🤩 there’s enough shirtless Hiccup to last a lifetime here. And stick around until the end to see the grand winner, which is now deemed the *OFFICIAL* canon shirtless Hiccup!
A huge thank you to everyone who submitted, this was NOT an easy call, the fandom is so full of talent! Hope you enjoy and revel in the Hiccup-y glory 😉
Although there is still hope to get the comic released someday, so let’s not give up with just this ‼️
P.S. Dean DeBlois may be aware that this is a thing that happened

Hi!! I absolutely don’t mean to pressure you, but I have a friend who entered the Shirtless Hiccup competition, and we are just so excited lol. We’ve been stalking the hashtag and your YouTube community posts n stuff hoping for a word on it, and I was wondering if you had a rough estimate as to when the results would be up??
(Again, no pressure, obviously take your time, and obviously this is a busy time of year for so many people, we’re just so excited lol)
So happy people are hyped for it!
The video of Richard Hamilton and I going through the entries and selecting the winners will be posted in conjunction with my Nine Realms Season 4 Review next week 😁 it's only taking this long because the review is running longer than expected, but will be complete very soon.
For anyone else who submitted as well, we were SO impressed with the fandom and the video of us looking through all the entries is going to be another long one. So excited for you all to see it! 🙌🎉

Shirtless Hiccup Fanart Competition
Tumblr media
Calling all HTTYD fanartists!
HTTYD comic writer Richard Hamilton and I are running a competition among fans to create a depiction of shirtless Hiccup, which would have appeared in the third graphic novel The Fire Tides if it had been released.
When I first reached out to Richard to ask if he’d like to share the shelved story, I also asked if he’d be willing to provide the fandom with a ‘canon’ depiction of shirtless Hiccup to put it to rest, but unfortunately he is no artist, so he could not deliver.
That’s where the fandom comes in! It then became his idea to host a contest among fans, the winner will receive a prize (physical if located in US, outside the US will be something virtual) and their piece will be deemed the official ‘CANON’ depiction of shirtless Hiccup!!!
Any and all art styles are welcome, the criteria is listed above. To submit your piece, @ Richard (@RegardsRichard) and I (@AudrieGreywind) on Twitter with your depiction and the #ShirtlessHiccup tag.
The two of us will determine the winner together! The deadline for submissions is November 17th 2022.
Please share with any and all fanartists in the fandom, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Richard Hamilton Discusses the Unreleased HTTYD Comic ‘The Fire Tides’
The full interview is finally here guys! Can’t wait for you guys to hear the untold story, it will blow your minds!
I’ll be making another post about a fanart competition brought up in the video, so look out for that. It involves the fandom competing for their piece to be determined the CANON depiction of shirtless Hiccup!
Here’s the general shortened story for people who don’t have time to sit through the whole thing:
- The first pages of the book would’ve been a vague depiction of a young boy in a far off Village holding his hand out to an abused Night Fury, which horrifically resulted in his arm getting bitten off. This was Drago Bludvist as a child and how he lost his arm.
- The story is primarily from Astrid’s perspective.
- The riders use the Foreverwing dragon as a cargo jet for them and their dragons to ride on, which they use to go to a gathering of Chieftains at the beginning of the story.
- This is where we see Heather and Dagur, her and Fishlegs have a cute moment to wrap up their relationship.
- We also see Eret Father of Eret, who is supposedly a Chieftain himself.
- On the way back from Berk, the riders encounter a terrible storm, which separates Hiccup and Toothless from the other riders and leaves Valka injured and unconscious.
- Astrid gets the others back to Berk, but Hiccup and Toothless are still missing. She takes over as acting Chief until they can find him.
- Hiccup and Toothless end up getting swallowed by a giant titanwing Fathomfin dragon, which acts as a submarine and deposits them in an underwater cavern that was once a Viking city, complete with air pockets so they can breathe. Here Hiccup discovers through tapestries that the Viking city fell because the civilians lost faith in their leader, which contributes to Hiccup’s future decisions as Chief.
- While Valka is unconscious back at Berk, she has periodic flashbacks to her 20 years away, including her first encounter with Drago.
- Back in the underwater cavern, Hiccup discovers they aren’t alone because DRAGO BLUDVIST IS DOWN THERE AS WELL! Not only is he alive, but he’s developed a symbiotic relationship with a Tormentipede, which is a centipede-like dragon that has attached itself to him and acted as his new prosthetic arm that SHOOTS FIRE!
- Without any means of armor, Hiccup gets shirtless and we see that he has scars and the runes that spell ‘Astrid’ tattooed on his chest. This is the first time we see him crush up Toothless’ scales to use as fire protection which he slathers all over himself.
- Back on Berk, Astrid assembles the A Team to help the search for Hiccup, which means an aged-up Gustav makes an appearance. Apparently Gustav, like Hiccup, got whacked with the puberty stick and is now a stud. He’s this triathlete of the dragon riders who is so proficient that he has land-based, water-based and air-based dragons that he switches between. Bayana from Dragonvine also comes back with his Silkspanners to aid with the search.
- During a Valka flashback, we see that her first encounter at Drago’s lair ended with her using a group of Speedstingers that she gathered to use like a dog-sled to escape.
- While Astrid is kicking ass at being Chief, Gobber tells her that it’s okay for her to be sad about Hiccup being gone (and possibly dead). Though she tears up at the thought, she says she isn’t sad because she believes that he’s alive, and if later she finds out he’s dead, she’ll be sad then.
- Back in the underwater cavern, Hiccup discovers that the Fathomfin has been providing the submerged city with air for them to survive in, and it’s essentially the dragon’s nest.
- Hiccup and Drago have a super climactic fight, and though Richard did not disclose exactly what happened (because he still holds out hope the comic will one day be published, and didn’t want to spoil everything) Drago apparently has a very FINAL fate where Hiccup is forced to do something he has serious moral qualms with.
- Astrid and their teams assemble to find Hiccup, but in the midst another storm hits and while the other riders head home, Astrid knows Hiccup and Toothless won’t be lucky enough to survive a second storm so she stays behind to look for them.
- The Fathomfin returns Hiccup and Toothless to the surface, but Toothless is unable to fly due to his tail fin being damaged in the first storm. Hiccup instead uses the Fathomfin saliva (which is flamable even when wet) to spell out “ASTRID” in the same runes he has tattooed on his chest on the water, which ignites.
- Stormfly notices Hiccup’s lost dragon blade in the water, which is what leads her and Astrid to where Hiccup and Toothless are. She sees his signal and saves them.
- The two kiss of course 😍 which would’ve taken up an entire page of the book complete with Stormfly and Toothless doing something cute in the background.
- After finding a safe place for them to stop as the storm dies down, Toothless’ scales have washed free of Hiccup so we get another scene of him shirtless.
- Astrid’s all wet too, so she proceeds to take off a few layers and we see that SHE ALSO HAS A TATTOO OF THE RUNES THAT SPELL ‘HICCUP’ 😭☠️ (though he doesn’t specify exactly where, I’m thinking ribs)
- Valka survives of course, but in one of her flashbacks we learn that she once encountered Gothi’s twin sister Gretel, who is blind and was apparently going to be the villain of the FOURTH comic.
There may have been little beats that I forgot, but Richard goes into full detail in the actual interview, so definitely check it out if you can!!!

Upcoming ‘The Fire Tides’ Interview with Richard Hamilton
For anyone who may be waiting for updates on my interview with Richard Hamilton over The Fire Tides, the ‘end of September’ upload goal is going to be extended a few days.
It will be released in conjunction with my Dragons: The Nine Realms Season 3 review, which I’m continuing to work tirelessly on (they normally run over an hour long). My new goal to to have everything go live on Oct 3rd, but I promise to keep you all updated if something happens.
I can’t wait for the fandom to hear the story of The Fire Tides, and I feel so honored to help deliver it to you ❤️ Here’s a few mini-bombs from the story to keep your spirits up until the full interview drops:
- Eret, father of Eret, makes an appearance
- As do Heather and Dagur
- AS does someone we thought perished in the previous movies
and...
- Hiccup isn’t the only rider with a tattoo of his beloved’s name  😏

Hi!!!
I love your YouTube videos so much, I’ve watched all of your nine realms videos about a hundred times lol
I was wondering if you were planning on releasing more HTTYD content about the older HTTYD movies/shows on your channel? (Obviously if your aren’t, that is totally cool in love with all of your vids as it is, HTTYD or not)
Love all of your content thank you for being so awesome <333
Thank you so much!!
I would absolutely love to do more dragons content, specifically over things I actually enjoy about the franchise. Talking about The Nine Realms is fun, but I still can't stand the show. The older movies/shows are absolutely the reason I love the franchise as much as I do.
As of now I'm thinking about doing a Hiccstrid themed video around Valentine's Day, but we'll see what happens ❤️
And you're awesome too! 😊

(!!!) WAKE UP HTTYD FANDOM (!!!)
I had the privilege of interviewing Richard Ashley Hamilton (the co-writer of the Dragons comics, alongside Dean Deblois), where he spilled all the tea on the unreleased HTTYD Graphic Novel The Fire Tides.
Here’s a snippet of the interview where we discuss CANON shirtless Hiccup, the full interview and story to be released with my Dragons: The Nine Realms Season 3 Review later this month...
TLDR: HICCUP CANONICALLY HAS A TATTOO OF ASTRID’S NAME ON HIS CHEST!!!
Please share with everyone in the fandom, as we have a fan-related competition coming up in the full interview! Keep up with my YT channel to be notified when that drops!
